Volvo V40 D3 / D4 Timing belt & Water pump.

Welcome to the video, in this video I am changing the Timing/Cam belt and water pump on Kim's Volvo V40 D3 150hp. Changing the belt and water pump on the Volvo V40 is harder because they are a 5 cylinder diesel which doesn't allow the room to easily remove the water pump. I hope this video is interesting and also helps you if you are doing it your self because it can be quite hard!

This is a great video with a lot of information about it. The water pump does not necessarily need to come out. Because they go higher mileage, some original pumps on Volvo engines go well beyond 200000 miles. You check for signs of leaks and the ball bearing by spinning and listening to the noise. If the pump is spinning normally without any shaking or noise, then leave it.

Cheers. Yeah I have a D4 5 pot my self now too and when I do the belt on that I think I will leave the pump! 😂 If only I had known before I pulled the pump out of this one and caused my self a headache 😂

@@ThePhilBilly On my previous S80, 2005, I did the cambelt and auxiliary belt for myself at 185,000 miles. The water pump was in good condition, and right now, she still has the original pump, and everything is good. I offloaded the car because of the ULEZ. There is nothing wrong with the car; it has never missed a beat in 12 years of ownership.

I have a D4 4 cylinder and should do the belt and pump soon.. hope it will be a bit easier.

Hello, thks for the vid. If I understand correctly, I need to remove the driveshaft in order to lower the engine for accessing the water pump, but for removing the driveshaft I need to flush the gearbox oil first ? So the driveshaft enters the gearbox and make a seal in some sort ?

I drained the gear box oil into a clean container so I could reuse it. As long as you are careful you shouldn't need to replace the driveshsft oil seal
