Volvo V70/S60 P2 Window Regulator Complete Replacement

The mechanism managed to pop off the new guides I replaced recently, because the arms on the regulator were too twisted, so a complete replacement appeared to be my only choice.

THANK YOU! I watched this video about 20 times over about a month. Studied it. Dreamed about it. I’m female with a limited budget so I knew I’d have to have to take matters into my own hands (literally) and figure out how to not only salvage a window and replace it, but also to fix BOTH window regulators. I think someone had used a slim jim and bent all the arms and disattached one window and broke the other. It was a job requiring several trips to the salvage yard and a lot of thought and strength. But I DID IT!! Now both windows go up & down and I have removed all the nasty tape that was holding the window in place. they often get bent in winter if the glass freezes to the rubber trim.

@@gerardjones7881 Which is why I am going to purchase a set of small covers that fit the length of the top of the windows. They will keep rain and snow out of the inside of the glass (well, most of it anyhow). That IS a great tip, thanks!!

Full disclosure, this also didn’t fix it completely and it’s failed again, I’m wondering if the door is warped inside. I’m at the point where I’ll be fitting a new door when I can find one!

You diden't lock up the arms in the clips the right way. The little metal locking pins need to be pushed in further or the arm will loosen again. I think that's the problem.

Hello @IAMASPANNER; Note to you, this video also can be used for Volvo models XC70 from 2000 to 2007 (or 08). Can you edit the title? At 9:49 you start drilling out the rivets. I am sure you used a titanium drill bit. What size drill bit did you use?

Hi, at 17:36-1737, is the actuator motor screwed on or riveted onto the mechanical unit? Mine needs replaced, but I'd like to re-use the motor. It still works great!! I can buy the metal part of the actuator without the motor. I plan to remove the motor from the broken metal part, and put the electric motor onto the new part. Is it riveted on, or screwed on?? Thank you for a fantastically detailed video. From what I can see so far, this is PERFECT!! ~ ~ next question, do you have any videos about Volvo XC70? I do notice that Volvo used many parts that are interchangeable on their different models. For instance, this door looks exactly like the '04 XC70 that I have. (Just ordered the replacement 30784578 part, WITH MOTOR!!)

Not quite as easy on an older 1998 V70, since there are hardly any access holes- none that large as I remember from blocking the window up about 4 years ago. Lol. In future it may be a good idea to grease the motor gear and the whole outside gear on the regulator before you install it..( temember to push in the locking clips as someone said) and definitely wear some saftey glasses when drilling things out. Better to be safe than sorry.( If you haven't had any metal drilled out of your eye yet, believe me you don't want to go through that, or lose an eye.) Since I am a safety freak I would remind folks also to keep the control detached except for that step where you get the arm positioned correctly. Wouldnt want to pinch or ruin a finger by accident. The motor and regulator can be a dangerous weapon if the button is inadvertently pressed. Thanks for the great job on the video! ( not trying to be overly critical, so please don't take it that way) ...after many years of professional and private work on my own cars, thank the heavens I can still count to ten and two, (so I consider myself blessed indeed) and so far most of the many jobs got completed. If you think it through first and have enough tools and ingenuity most people could do this from watching your work. Bravo. Lets see if I can fit mine in! I might cut a couple extra holes.😅 Lol. Keep up the good work, and get her to 500K!

Inspiring work. Thank you. I’m still at the diagnosis stage. 1998 V70 XC. 232,000 miles. Bought new. Left side (driver-side in USA) window goes down but up only in something like half-inch increments. Does that sound like switch? regulator? or motor? or some combination? Any suggestions on how to diagnose? Thanks

the steel clip should be installed after the ball on the end of the arm has been popped into the slide block. you easily pushed the ball into place withe the clip already installed in the blue slider, that means it will pop out by itself too.

I've watched the blue clip changing video(that didn't solve it) having watched this I'm confident to resolve the issue I have...my regulator is warped....I'm guessing by the guides being silicone incorrectly onto the glass....everything compounding things. Great video!......question, what did you lubricate the runners with??

Looks like you not clicked the metal lock in lock position, now it can pop off again

I followed this and my window goes up n' down. Job done. Only issue now is the auto-up puts the window to the top and then it lowers straight back down. If I hold the switch, it stays up but auto goes up and drops back down. There are worse things in the World.

Hold the up button for like 15 seconds and it should work again

Mine did exactly the same after fitting wind deflectors but it ended up making the window go up at an angle. You could try lubricating the places where the window slides up. I think the door got twisted on mine over time so even after replacing the regulator I’ve ended up replacing the full door.

I can’t remember exactly but window motors are usually just 2 or 3 screws onto the mechanism.

Once a year? Mine popped off again even after this. I’m genuinely changing the full door to fix it.

Theoretically you could use nut and bolt but I don’t think they’d do as good a job.

I agree with the author (below). Think of the amount of vibration that the four rivets are subjected to. I think that nuts/bolts would loosen and come apart pretty quickly... I am going with rivets in the regulator replacement I am doing. Thanks.
