Volvo XC60 D5 AWD: Alternator makes strange noise

Volvo XC60 2.4d D5 AWD My"12: For some time I hear a strange rattling noise coming from under the hood. According to Volvo garage is the alternator that produces the sound. After verification turns out to be the bearing of the pulley which is worn.

Hello, did you solve the issue and what was the problem? I assume before this you have some other noises before as this is final noise stage of damage?

Mine is the same. Do you get a burning smell with this?? I also have a message saying auto start-stop service required but I put this down to the secondary battery not getting a charge.. Also 45000 mls ??????😡😡

I just had this problem with my 2012 Volvo S60, exactly the same and they replaced they’re replacing the alternator

same car, MY 2014, bearing worn with 45000 km, Oct. 22, 2016. I did expect more lifetime from a Volvo and its components.

The over running clutch fails

was it the alternator?

Common fault. Be warned if Alternator clutch fails belt will snap and has on many occasions snspped auxiliary belt wrapping around crank shaft pulley then throwing timing belt off and top end goes bang.VERY expensive.
