The Volvo XC60 is clearly inspired by the larger XC90 SUV, but with a lower, sportier design. Like the whole brand, the XC60 has taken a step upmarket - with an increase in price to match. However, you get a stunning interior and lots of technology for your money and there’s a its nine-inch Sensus infotainment system and safety kit including Pilot Assist, which adds semi-autonomous driving to the XC60’s long list of clever features. Think of the XC60 as a cheaper, more manageable XC90 and you won’t be disappointed.

Having used a 90 series for a few months now I've found that the main reason I use the screen on the move is to switch the stop-start off. Most other functions can be either actuated by voice control or the keypad on the right, which brings a menu up on the dash. Door sills on XC60 are a significant improvement over that of the XC90, which forces passengers to reach their legs far out from the seats to reach the ground. All in all my Volvo 90 series is the best car I've ever had, and I've had a few. Personally I would not bother with air suspension, but each to their own.

The T8 inscription is designed for countries with very high import taxes but high eev and local assembly incentives. I can see how it can be overpriced and impractical as a purchase in the UK but here in Malaysia T8 hybrid models of Volvos are cheaper than t5s or D5s. Our family owns a T8 XC90 and over here in its top of the range inscription trim its cheaper than the equivalent T5 in the same trim. Just to clarify that the T8 does have its purpose :D

If it weren't for the title of the video I would have thought this was an Audi commercial. Pretty bizarre given the fact that last year and the one before the Volvo XC60 was the best seller in his category in the EU and that this new generation is waaaaayyy better than the last one ever was.

All the other models have got buttons in the boot to release the back seats, as far as I am aware. They are located next to the switch to raise and lower the air suspension.

This is my current top pick for a mid-size family SUV. For my taste, this car has way more style and presence than a Q5 or X3. For that reason alone I'd choose it over the Germans, but I've test driven an XC60 and it didn't disappoint on any level. Okay maybe the steering was a bit lifeless, but not a big deal on an SUV. I'm looking forward to testing the T8 version soon.

I thought this was a very good review. I see some are complaining you didnt give every single detail. I think they expect way too much. It is just not reasonable to expect every detail. I like it.... but not at those prices! Porsche Macan, or save £20K and have a Discovery Sport with 7 seats. Depreciation pretty savage on Volvos so could wait 18-24 months and get a low mileage bargain :-)

Agree. I would buy this XC60 only if they have a jog dial to operate screen unless functionalities can be operated within a steering wheel buttons. I hate to see many car manufactures don't even think how difficult to use touch screen dash while driving higher speed. I hate to see so many car reviewers except this man fail to mention it. Many of them just showing touch screen functions while car is sitting in showroom don't bother to think how a real life of various people using it. I am now looking into 2018 X3 that has a nice jog dial on the side console. Btw, I originally looking into 2018 Q5 but discovered its jog dial was not even useful because it's located far to the front dash. Only 6'2 or taller can reach their hand without leaning upper body while driving. I also hate so much Q5 FAKE exhaust pipes. Paying $55000 and you get a FAKE thing. This Volvo's fake exhaust is actually better because pipes are at least stick into rear chamber.

There is a button to fold seats in the back of the car. At least the Inscription has it. But im pretty sure its true for R design also. How could you miss that? And no, German cars is not nicer interior wise. At least at the same pricetag.

Ive been in both the Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60 and I personally thing the Volvo sweeps the q5 in terms of interior quality. also, the rear leg room in the Audi isn't as ample as the Volvo.

I'm a bit irritated by Volvo's insistence on chucking everything into that touch screen. I don't doubt it's one of the better ones on the market, but I feel that Jaguar and Land Rover's upcoming variations on this theme (in the i-Pace and Velar) is better, safer and easier to use, thanks to the hybrid mix of screens and physical dials.

The interior and exterior would be much more interesting if it wasn't in boring colours. Externally I particularly prefer gun metal grey for instance and the interior to be a combination of ivory leather and a dark wood and shiny black plastic or better yet steel effect dash.

Nice review, but there's one thing you forgot when you were mentioning cubby spaces/storage. Under the 2nd row (outer) seats, there is a small cubby space big enough to hold and iPad/phone/wallet which is pretty cool.
