I have a XC60 2019 R-Design with 22" inch wheels and pneumatic suspension. It's a D4 with the Polestar Engineered optimisation. Great car so far. No problems at all since 2019. Mine was one of the last being made in Sweden, Torslanda.

There aren't many budget cars left. I have an Aygo X parked in my driveway this week, and it starts at 16k. I remember when this kind of money could get you a compact car.

Had a in beetwen face lifted interior and exterior updated but drivetrain not. A great car, really easy to drive. The only thing missing is a rapid charging as in Mercedes Benz PHEV.

I'm not a fan of SUVs, but for some reason I don't find myself hating on any of the ones in the Volvo range. I think it's because they seem to be very relaxed vehicles, unlike some other manufacturers that have used 'murderous robot' as their design theme. If money was no object the spec you have here would probably be my choice. Enough electric only range for comfortable daily use, silly acceleration, but Q car styling. I do think that the pre-facelift front end looks a bit cleaner though. Great review as always Marek.

was considering the XC60 PHEV, until I added a few options and got to 82k euros with my configuration :o also the 1 year waiting for the car to arrive didn't convince me to place the order.

I've got the V60 version. It's a beautiful car but the PHEV system driven daily is very annoying. It often hunts on and gas in pure mode. It also takes forever to charge and uses petrol like a Lorry in PS mode which eats up all your electric mode benefits and savings. I love the cars style and features but really cannot wait to get a full electric Volvo wagon.

How do I like it? The pre-facelift version looked more uncomplicated and more elegant. That's why I prefer it. Volvo was spot on with its design back then; now, it seems it is becoming, chunkier and messier. In my opinion, the XC60 and XC90s are no-brainer options - the elegance, the comfort and calmness in driving, the open and airy feel of the interior, fantastic seats, Pilot Assist, excellent basic audio system, and many advanced features that even the guys at dealerships are not aware of. All of this I say from the first-hand experience of owning a Volvo V90 Cross Country, identical to the one Marek reviewed back in the day. Regarding the city safety intervention, is it still possible to adjust the sensitivity of it? That could remedy the unwanted stopping you described.

I can't find anything about the sensitivity settings. www.volvocars.com/en-th/support/manuals/xc60/2021w22/driver-support/assistance-at-risk-of-collision/assistance-at-risk-of-collision-in-crossing-traffic If you search for the word "disable" in the owner's manual, you'll find very few such instances :) The word "sensitivity" is used only in connection with the handsfree system.

​@@MarekDrivesENG Cha-peau for looking into this. After 3 days of reading the manual, I couldn't find it either :)). But, if my memory serves me well, there was a setting for one driver assistance system or another where it was possible to set medium or high intervention level, but that was in a 2017 model. Menus were changed in Sensus during my 3,5 years of ownership, I can imagine it is even more different now that it's Android-based.

I always look forward to your reviews every Friday. I like the look of the Volvo but I hate the infotainment system especially when they put the climate controls in there. Why don’t they go back to high quality knobs and buttons.

Back in the day Volvo had a button overload. But basic climate settings should be physical as a mandate.

I want to buy one.. my wish though would be to have a fast charger and be able to power my home or shop like a generator.. with this car. I live in South Africa,we have planned black outs of 6 -10 hours per day.. Mitsubishi outlander phev .. i think all phevs should be able to turn into generators, how many countries suffer from natural disasters? Thanks for honest review,, is one able to switch off sensors? Could be very annoying if car keeps stopping for grass etc

Generally when going off road it's bets to turn parking sensors off, and yes, it is possible. I see what you mean with vehicle-to-grid capabilities. I'm not sure how Mitsubishi has dealt with it, because I don't think it works in Europe. AFAIK some newer EVs should be V2G ready, and it will depend on what sort of connector you have at home. There needs to be some sort of handover protocol from charging the car and discharging it to power the house. Also, I'm not sure how much power the cars can provide to the house at a given moment, so they may have to be some basic circuit, which powers only crucial appliances, like the refrigerator, etc.

This one has manually adjustable dampers, whereas the regular adaptive suspension is controlled with a button inside the car. But Polestar is more sporty like this :)

I like the new front, not the rear with the lost tips (thankfully Heico has a kit for a nice quad exhaust). Biggest issue is the charging speed. Not acceptable for a car over 90.000eur to charge at 3kw and take 5-6 hours. Far cheaper koreans do much better. Volvo wants to go full electric, but has lots to learn to be a player. Just like improving the range of the C40 or Polestar 2…

I've checked out a number of these PHEVs like the X3, XC60, Q5.... bloody hell they are expensive relative to their petrol only versions. The PHEV versions are always 12-20k more than their petrol only versions. Sure I'd love to drive around town on electric only 85% of the time but I ain't going to be saving that much in fuel costs. And they are so expensive most of them don't get the gov't rebate. The V60 T8 does. It only makes sense when you get a Mitsubishi Outlander or RAV4 Prime which get the rebate. The vehicle needs a range of min 50km I believe and can't cost more than 70k. Then it gets a 5k rebate. Anyways, this car looks great but 92k Euro????? Wahhhhhhhhh. I think that would be pushing into Big fat Audi E tron prices no?

I don't know about Canada, but in Poland petrol prices almost doubled this year thanks to one V. Putin. So PHEVs made sense for a moment, but now the authorities say energy prices may double or triple, so everyone's fucked, and that's without actually being subject to a special military (my ass) operation. I think that's what they call market volatility.

@@MarekDrivesENG In Canada, petrol prices peaked at 2.15 CAD for regular 87 octane. It's now 1.44 and going lower. Electricity is 90% nuclear so it's been relatively stable. It's controlled by the gov't completely. The differential in NATGAS prices is incredible though. Here it's low 4 dollars, world market price is 7 and in the EU is much higher. Having said this, I trade and the NATGAS chart has a big head and shoulders formation which is very bearish. If it completes NATGAS is the EU is about to drop massively. 30-50%. Putin is a crazy man who does care if Russia losses 100-200k soldiers. It's very clear that it's almost impossible to win a war if the other side has been given sophisticated weapons. 1 dude can take down dozens of planes. This is a human tragedy that the common Russian is just starting to comprehend. Poland has been in the Canadian press a lot for being such an amazing compassionate supporters of the Ukrainians and the refugees. Bravo Poland. Be proud. Love from Canada

@Deniz a press car is for the media to review. A dealer car is for the dealer to demonstrate to its clients. Press cars are usually lent to the media for a week (or in special cases for longer) to run a series of tests, to get to know the car, and to produce an informed report, whereas dealer cars are usually available for a couple of hours, maybe a weekend to help the client make up their mind. Dealers have no business giving cars to the media, because the media may (and are likely to) say something that may negatively affect sales. Dealers don't need customers to have any doubts. While at the corporate PR & marketing level the company may see the broader picture, be aware of certain shortcomings, and be ready to address them, for a dealer any media criticism means a harder sale. From this perspective Tesla personified by Mr. Musk has done itself a great favour by limiting commentary to existing customers, often fanboys, who have (or had) incentives like referral codes to speak mainly favourably about Tesla. In order to make a proper review and justify any reservations I have I need a car for more than a weekend. Scripting and filming alone takes a couple of days, and I need to drive the car, test various scenarios. I have driven a couple of Teslas for limited time, and was not impressed. But I admire Mr. Musk's strategy of restricting media access, and thus potentially skewing the picture customers see.

@@MarekDrivesENG Seems like you have a personal agenda against Tesla, but I'm not judging. Model Y is beating all sorts of sales records in its class so a lot of people, me included, have it on their radar as a potential buy, so all reviews would be useful.

@Deniz call it what you want. I do not review dealer cars. If other carmakers can supply press cars for proper reviews, I do not see why I should sign my name under a review that's been carried out on guerrilla terms. The dealer won't be happy if I don't sing praise about the car (also there's only one Tesla dealer in Poland, so that's likely to be my first and last review of a Tesla anyway), and the Tesla fanboys will come and shit on me in the comments, because they know better. And you know what? It is possible they do know better, because they had more experience with the car, than I can gather during a weekend.

I tried it and it was powerful and nice, but.. Once you've tried a powerful electric silent car, there is no way back. If I could manage with a all electric I would get one instead. The C40 is a rocket. A silent rocket.

@Anders Fagerström that's a legislative nightmare. In the US the i3 REx had to have a very small gas tank to be considered an EV. In Poland a range extender means the car is NOT considered an EV at all. Also I found that range extender in the i3 gave you about 100 km of limp speed range, which doesn't solve the problem of slow charging infrastructure. I don't mind stopping every 2-3 hours for 15-20 minutes, but that implies charging speeds of 200 kW, and appropriately long charging peak. Again, this may be region-specific. In Poland you're lucky to find chargers above 50 kW, and usually we're talking one CCS plug, so 1. fingers crossed it's available, 2. fingers crossed some Leaf asshole isn't taking up some of the bandwidth on ChaDeMo.

Maybe the engine in Europe has a better reliability/durability record but in the United States they are a mechanical catastrophe.

I looked at the XC60 recharge and could not swallow the price - tested and then ordered a Mazda CX-60. Sure it's not as fast but sub 6 seconds to 60mph is enough and the interior build quality was very nice. Had a bunch of Audis and (currently) a Maserati Levante S and the CX-60 was not a disappointment to drive. Definitely did not have the 'presence' of the Maserati - you can never forget that the engine is there - but somewhat more relaxed when cruising.
