This makes so much sense, the max mileage loss is in traffic and once you hit the highway the petrol delivers cleaner performance. Such a great blend of both worlds. Daily driver electric, city plus long hauls hybrid.

I just bought the exact same T8 Recharge and I was trying to understand the subtleties of how the car manages the balance between gas and electric motors. Great education on how that all works. Thanks!

What has your mpg been in the city when running in hybrid mode? I'm trying to read between the lines on the MPGe rating and real world gas consumption with how much I drive. 12k a year 95% city under 25mi/day

@@motoxrider295 Sorry for the late reply - in hybrid mode, we get 29.0 mpg as an average between city and highway. That number is without utilizing the 11.6-kwh battery.

@@chrisgaudino7350 Almost two years in now on our '21 and it's still a pleasure to drive. In pure electric mode, it's such a smooth ride. And you normally don't associate Volvo with luxury, but this car is incredibly luxurious (Inscription) and the fit-and-finish is extremely high. One recommendation is to go for the Polestar software upgrade. It adds instant response at the bottom end and is a nice addition to the already impressive power.

Note - the act of unlocking the car will release the power plug. That means you can walk over to the door handle and start to open it, and that will release the charging lock, too. If you subscribe to the Volvo App, you can also unlock from there (though that's less convenient than using the key fob). Also, I can't find the video for the V60 Polestar EV range check.

Great video, thank you. Do you happen to know if the update that you're talking about around 4:50 mark is only for 2021+ XC90 T8 models or all those that have an 11.6kWh batteries in them? i.e. late 2019 models already come with the same battery pack as the one in 2021... The name of the update or any additional info around it would be of great help too, thank you.

We are looking at this XC90 T8 for next fall to accompany our 2018 CT6 plug-in that sees 40 miles on battery or 85-105 mpge average during the summer. The ~20 miles is sufficient for us as most shopping and dining is 7-8 miles max.

I'm wondering if you can just keep the key fob in your pocket/purse and just tap the spot on the door handle to unlock the car and release the charger.... I know on my xc60 it has little indentations on all four doors to keyless unlock. just a thought...

Yeah - he should involve her more. And listen to her opinions more; and maybe let her actually contribute (more). Instead of being 80 - 90% him, he should aim for more like 60/40. Women watching this feel probably don't like how much he talks (when he's just asked for her opinion on something; straight away he's straight back to talking). It's like - if you want her opinion - for *real* - let her speak for more than 20 seconds, ever.

It does that with the charging so no one can unplug you while it’s charging at charging station by an extremely rude person that’s been waiting or watching your car so they can use it next…Tesla owners probably wish they had that feature because they always unplug each other’s cars if they don’t see anyone in the car LmL

Having driven a 2020 XC90 T8 and doing almost the exact same test(father in law owns one), I did not see this power limiting issue you are seeing at all. However the max speed it can maintain is 75mph. Something seems wrong or they changed something. Realistically you can only go about 72-73mph.

@@bobgc1954 That is incorrect. It has a max charge rate of 3.6kW (which is really unfortunate). It's basically 50% speed of regular Level 2 charging.

@@slandshark hello, I am in Northern Europe and use the 230/240 standard plug located in my garage. Charging from "empty" takes about 4 hours in temps of 15 to 30 degrees Celsius. When fully charged I have an indicated 40km "range" showing. I have checked the online manual (u.k.version) and copied/pasted below, Charging times for charging with 230V Current intensity (A) Charging time (hours) 6 amps 8 hours 10 amps 4 hours 16 amps 3 hours According to the Volvo manual different markets have different specs regarding charging.
@slandshark2 жыл бұрын
@@bobgc1954 You have proven my comment. You have the smaller battery (hence the 40km max range) which means your battery size is 11.6kW with usable battery size of about 10.4kW. At roughly 3.6kWh charging (16 amps) it would be about 3.5 hours. That is 50% of the industry standard Level 2 charging speed, which is about 6 to 6.5kW. I.E. at regular Level 2 speeds you would fully charge in about 2 hours. But since the Volvo onboard charger is limited to about 3.6kW, it takes 3.5 hours or closer to 4 hours.

Nice car! Stereo is killer!!!! Your math is a little misleading…you don’t get the tax credit until you file your taxes and have a tax liability, so you are still laying out 80k plus tax on that 80k. If you’re financing especially. So, unless you pay cash for it, you aren’t going to really realized the entire tax rebate since you’re playing interest on the full amount of the price you finance….That said, I still want one!!! CPO sounds interesting, but wonder exactly what it covers. That engine is a little sketch with a turbo, supercharger, and hybrid powertrain strapped to a 4 banger….wonder what that longevity is like.
@slandshark2 жыл бұрын
Probably great longevity considering you'll likely do most of your driving with the engine never turning on. I have a PHEV with 34 max miles of range (we average about 30) and while we drive 15,000 miles/year we do about 75% of our driving on pure electric. The engine barely gets used. We might put 15,000 miles on it in a year, but that's only about 3,750 miles on the engine each year....super super low.
