The entire A Go Go album which originally contains this song is just about the most funky jazz album ever recorded. So professionel musicians just having a blast. Great video, thanks for uploading! Been looking for Scofield playing songs from that album live for a long time :-)

I got to hear them play this live on the tour for A Go Go with Clyde Stubblefield filling in for Billy Martin. Watching this brings back memories of how exciting that show was. This also brought back a memory of one afternoon the summer the album came out when I was driving with my windows down listening to the finale to Boozer at a somewhat unhealthy volume. A women in her 70s pulled up at the traffic light next to me and leaned over and said "Nice jazz!". I don't know where she is now but that comment made my day.

@RocknJazzer

that's cuz it's not quite fusion, they are going for a older jazz funk sound that came before fusion, and the hofner fits right in perfectly for that.

@@possibly8180 That's cool, tho it doesnt sound like a hollowbody much being so small a body, I have tried many hollow and semi hollow basses to try and get a more upright tone, including fretless ones and acoustic bass guitars and stick type uprights w no body but seems nothing can get close enough to a regular fullsize upright. If you know of anything let me know. regular uprights are too hard for me to play, Im a guitarist so need something more like an electric bass scale playability, but going for upright sound

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this clip! Insane, super hot playing from all four gentlemen. I saw the tour behind A Go Go, but with Larry Goldings, Bill Stewart, and a bassist who's name I sadly can't recall. It was mind blowing, but it's ultra-cool to hear Sco do this, live, with MMW, the album line-up. This is some high-altitude playing. By the way, I'm probably not the first one here to reveal this, but "Chank" is Jimmy Nolen, James Brown's guitarist. Peace!
