This is precisely where I'm at at the moment, thank you so much for addressing this subject ! I've been full time VO for 3 years and I feel now confident enough to do a second approach to agencies, so I took some notes and will definitely apply your advice. Nothing to loose and who dares win !

What is your opinion on DIY demos? I have years of experience in radio and production, editing, etc...
@GaryTerzza5 ай бұрын
In some ways a home produced demo gives potential clients more of an accurate idea about what your audio set up really sounds like. So long as it sounds good, then there is no reason why you can’t craft an impressive voicereel from your spare room.

Thanks for the great information! If an exclusive contract with an agency is *not* what one is seeking, it could be helpful to consider agency representation in several major markets, both nationally and internationally. Thanks to technology such as Source Connect, VO artists are far less constrained by geographic boundaries then in prior years. My dream scenario would be agents in NYC, Chicago, LA, London, Paris, and Berlin for greater access to the clients that they serve. And if I live long enough, and keep working at my art, I do believe that I can make that happen. OK, I admit it - I like to dream big. 😊

I like your multi-national approach to voice overs; sounds like you have most of the VO world covered. Don’t skimp on your dreams!

Gary, thank you for your simple, easy to grasp explanations of things I never knew in doing VO. I just narrated one of my novels, "Dawn's Revenge," and am submitting it to ACX. I could use any tip you may have regarding how I can enhance my chances of getting published and marketed. This novel has been on Amazon for years and has raves from two Louisiana governors, and all who read it. (It is a thriller set in the New Orleans French Quarter where I practiced law back in the day---I am 88). It has been approved by the little ACX test that ACX requires, and now I am trying to figure out how to grease the track into acceptance and publication, then I will narrate my other novels. Thanks again for clarity and your friendly approach to this tricky subject.

Thank you for your kind comments. Your book sounds like a darn good read/listen, a bit like a non-vampire version of an Anne Rice novel (that is meant as a compliment). When you submit your audiobook to ACX, you'll need to choose a genre and keywords that accurately describe your book. This will help potential listeners to find your audiobook when they search the ACX catalogue. If you have passed the RMS test, then I don't anticipate any issues with quality. In terms of marketing, I suggest leveraging social media and hooking up with any podcasters who might be interested in the story. Of course as a lawyer-turned-novelist I am sure you will have plenty of spicy tales to tell! Bonne chance.

lol, he says thanks for watching 10:20 , sir, thank you for sharing with us. This is valuable information, but it is good to remember NOT to pay upfront when it comes to agents.
@GaryTerzzaАй бұрын
Absolutely. An agent should be on a commission-only basis and they should take their cut from the fees you receive from a client.

So I can do all this on line? Do I send a photograph as well?

In this video I’m talking about bricks and mortar agencies, rather than the online casting sites. So email and even a good old fashioned phone call will be your best line of pursuit.

I just submitted my VO demos to a number of VO agents this week and have been overwhelmed with responses. I’m trying to figure out if this is normal!

I’ve only been actively pursuing VO for about 4 months and have been booking commercials and audiobooks but submitted for agents for more exposure to animation.
@GaryTerzza Жыл бұрын
Wow, that is impressive. In my experience you are lucky to get an acknowledgment from an agent, let alone a response with interest. It sounds like you have the pick of the crop to choose from - good luck with gaining representation.

Jill this is awesome! Im starting from home as well but am struggling to get work. What platforms did you start on before you submitted to an agency?

*I was wondering if you could address my issue in a video? I am a naturally SLOWER speaker, but I want to do commercials. No matter how hard I try, I can not do 75 words in 30 seconds. I am stuck at 60 to 65 words per 30 seconds. HELP!*

It sounds like you have been practicing hard, but you may have reached your speed performance limit. If this is the case, a very fast delivery may not be for you (we can’t be good at everything) so avoid these jobs in the future. Alternatively you can cheat a little with Audacity’s tempo tool kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqbWYqerpr2er7csi=8_X2Kbddr3iPi1-O
