This sounds incredible. With some thunderstorm in the background, perfect for drinking coffee or falling asleep

@@samhughesprogressive thanks so much! As it happens I’m often drinking coffee and or falling asleep making this stuff. Polyphrase is consistently a favourite for me. 🥰

Oh man, thanks! I slip in and out of concentration when I'm using Polyphrase because it sorta does all my work for me. Now that Boum is in the mix, I'm basically going to get a bit too much saturation going and put that on everything. 😅🥰

@@GiantPupil wow thanks! Happy to be a shopping enabler. It's really cool. Most of the time I'll use it for saturation and filtering but it has a whole bunch of nice dirty sounds.

Hey Lyle, this is beautiful. Question for you ... I've been wanting to go Dawless and was considering something like the Casio CT-S1 to go into a similar setup (VonGon/BOUM, etc) but I'm starting to think I need to bite the bullet and use a midi controller with something like the Teletone Golden age if I want a true authentic sound. This means, connect to DAW, etc. I guess. Do you have any thoughts? I've been sitting on this decision for a while and feel like you've nailed the approach. Thanks, your compositions are awesome.
@basementlyle3 ай бұрын
Wow thank you so much! I'm actually wrestling with the same thing right now. I'm starting to want to have a live set that I could play out and I'm not sure if I want to drag my DAW etc... around with me. Casio does seem to deliver a lot of nice sound per dollar but I haven't played one. I haven't played any of the digital pianos apart from older Yamahas etc... because some of the most recommended ones are eye-wateringly expensive (Nord, Roland etc...) I've really fallen for those Teletone sounds too so it's also a trick to find those more vintage, softer warmer sounds on digital keyboards. If you have the Vongon and OTO stuff in the mix, they might do everything you need to make the sound more satisfying. It might be a situation of "renting" from your local music store to try a few configurations. Laptops have been a staple of musicians for ages now too and they have become very stable and robust, so you might be able to do that without too much effort. I've played once with a laptop live and it worked great. One thing I've noticed is that I do care about how the keys feel, so I think it's worth actually sitting down with prospective instruments (or controllers) and seeing how they feel. If I make any decision, maybe I can post here again (or make a video about it). :)

@@basementlyle Lyle, sorry I totally missed your reply! The Teletone sounds are really nice. I think the way you run dry on one side and effects on the other makes a big difference too. Let me know what you end up deciding! By the way, the Boum saturation sounds amazing. How's the noise floor with the Boum?
@basementlyle2 ай бұрын
@@jerrycharles66 Hey! I haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet and am beginning to lean toward the laptop route. I think I'm going to pick up a Mac mini for my studio computer and that frees up my laptop for whatever else I need it for. I'll be playing so rarely that it felt unnecessary to buy something. I also checked on rental prices and they are very reasonable. So I might go that route if I want to stay DAWless. Noise floor on BOUM has never really been noticeable to me. I run it into line level inputs so the gap between the loud signal and the noise floor is sufficiently large. On some modes the circuitry is probably noisier but I mostly use the saturation. BTW I found a fun cheap stereo saturator compressor called Templo 2 Track and it sounds quite nice and warm.
@tendingtropic7778 Жыл бұрын
beatiful. what are you using to play the VST with? and where is the saturation coming from? subscribed!
@basementlyle Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I use an Arturia Keylab Essential 88 as the controller. I like the weight of the keys and I wanted the full size keyboard. Logic Pro is my DAW though I use Ableton a bit too. My interface is MOTU Ultralite mk5. The VSTs like the Arturia stuff and Spitfire have their own plugins. The Teletone ones use Kontact. The saturation is coming from the OTO Boum in this case, but I often use my Analog Heat mk2 for saturation. Sometimes I'll also add a bit more in the mastering chain from Soundtoys Decapitator etc...
