I am 68 years and and started the hobby about 6 years ago. I always looked at other young flyers flying knife edge. Your tutorial is of great help and I am starting the sim practice as of now. THANKS A LOT. Lino Xuereb Malta.

When you think about the airflow, look at the plane and think what happens when you pull on the elevator and have the rudder deflected. The air is all bunched up on the top of the stab between the rudder and elevator, but when you're pushing, the air is allowed to flow a lot more freely. Also, one perk of rolling left is that you can speed up your roll slightly by using the torque of the motor. Inversely, rolling right can have a floaty effect slowing the roll with the torque of the motor.

Hello, Thanks for the comment is much appreciated. I trim all my planes to fly straight and level while on full throttle. as for knife edge I prefer to "mix" with the sticks. It's a little more difficult to learn but in the long haul its much better for recovering from trouble. Thanks Voro.

Love your videos. They are really helpful. The giant scale was great as I am building a 92" Decathlon from scratch. What I would like you to do a video on is trimming an aerobatic plane. Including some basic coupling of controls; for instance when in knife edge having the the aircraft tend to tuck or roll out. Even the basics such as when to use aileron versus when to use rudder trim. The way you fly it appears that the trim doesn't matter!

Thanks for your reply. I realize the goal is to get the aircraft to track straight and level hands off, but my query was more as how do you do it with examples. How to determine if the CG is correct; i.e., tail heavy, nose heavy, when to trim rudder instead of aileron and vice versa. It was just a thought about a possible video.
@VoroRC12 жыл бұрын
It depends on Center of Gravity and how large the rudder is it self, about 95% of low wings and mid wings will knife edge, and from what I've seen about 40% of high wings will. However, knife edge on a high wing is much more difficult as you need to mix elevator and aileron to keep it in a knife edge. Thanks for the question hope that helps :)

Example at dream-rc-airplanes under "tips and tricks" there's an article on trimming. It is somewhat involved with many steps.

Very nice.....just found your 3D tutorials. Just what I was looking for, like your commentary and I believe I'll be a regular viewer. I think using a simulator for the tutorial is a good decision.

Hi Voro, I think your aerobatics and videos are amazing. Could you please tell me how to suprimpose the Tx stick positions onto a video. Thank You John

It's not just you, it does fall easier making inside turns during knife edge, the rudder is partially blanked by the fuselage and wings while turning inside so it loses some authority.

Thanks for the video. When the plane is flying knife-edge, what part of the plane generates lift to keep it in the air?

Thanks for the video. It would be good if you guys number your tutorial videos based on difficulty

They just sound electric and you can do this by selecting a model, select edit, change it to advanced, then find sound and select any size electric you wish.

Fantastic video! Very well done. Im starting to get braver on my little 540qq. Do you have to have your throw maximized in order to do slow speed maneuvers? I have my rates at around 50% right now and the plane acts more like a fast racer than 3d.

Hi voro, my question is this. Can i do that kind of things whit my sig four star os 40 engine?
@VoroRC11 жыл бұрын
If you're asking if you can knife-edge with the os 40? You should be able to, it all comes down to the airframe and tuning of the engine, as long as both are capable the engine should be as well. Thanks, Voro
@jhonnatanbatista23111 жыл бұрын
My question was if whit the surface that i have in a sig four star, i mean aleron and elevators i´m able to do this kinds of things, like blenders, knife edge and things like that?
@VoroRC11 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Batista You should be able to assuming you have about 45 degrees of throw. I'm not sure how much throw you have at the moment, or how much is possible. But 45 degrees on every surface is what you'll need.

Honestly y haven´t pay atention on that part, on sunday i was trying to do some things but the plane allways stall, i also notice that i had some altitude it was like 50 feet altitude. i did that because was my first try.

Are these tricks something u can do with a real plane?
@VoroRC11 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly yes. Such as the Red Bull Zivko Edge 540. I have personally watched it hover, knife edge, snap roll, tumble, flat spin and so on. The only limitation a full scale (Real plane) has, is the pilot itself. A human cannot handle as many G-forces as the models can. But the plane can do all the same tricks.

I would be more impressed if this was on an actual rc plane. A real airplane rarely has perfect construction, perfect balance, or perfect weather. These facts add a substantial degree of difficulty, and unpredictability that sims cannot recreate. If you are a serious 3d pilot how about some tips on CG location, propeller matching, radio mixes etc.
