Until that tech is directly integrated into the optic and automatically adjusts the turret you can keep it. I get on target with a basic range finder just as fast without a clunky box on top of my scope.

And you obviously believe everything you read and hear. They most likely walked those shots in. Any average shooter can do the same. The point is not to waste ammo doing it. Besides, a few times doing it and you should know your dope without using anything. As for the Dixon shot, I wasn't there to witness it so I don't know how true that is. Yes, it can be done, but it'll take a few shots. Military Snipers are not the mythical creatures movies and books make them out to be. Any shot is easy with the fog of war shielding everything and being able to take a few shots and walk them in. Just like ALL snipers have done with the record shots.

Yeah… my bushnell 1000 arc pretty much does that. Plus I don’t have to put any info in it to change rifles. I just change ammo groups with touch of a button.

Love Vortex, this may be great for when you have time and shooting for fun at targets not hunting. Adds 1 pound to your rifle and looks like you will bang it on everything in the woods. Plus that's a lot of $$$$ for the looks of out dated tech. - For an all in one scope for hunting and half the price I recommend the Burris Eliminator Riflescope, you can range and it displays your bullet drop instantly with the range and wind comp dots. Takes some work to dial in the first time but worth it!!!

Aside from the scope and the rifle, I don't ever want to rely on a gadget to get me on target. Proper ranging technique and a thoroughly vetted dope card should cover 95% of any situation even the most competitive shooters and hunters will ever encounter. I'll hang onto my $3k.

You don't need this for hunting. Ethical hunters shouldn't be shooting at animals 1000 yards away. Use a magnum cartridge like a 7mm or 300 win mag, zero it at 300 yards, and you'll have a platform that's very flat shooting out to 400 yards. Then within that distance you can just ignore variables like range, wind, and shooting angle. The only thing you need to consider is how much you need to lead a running animal, if you even want to risk that kind of shot.

Obviously most in the comments here have no idea what this is actually for(or they’re all just trolling). Yes, it does the same thing as a cheaper handheld rangefinder and notebook and calculator; and I also agree that you should absolutely learn that skill for when a device like this is available. However this device is not for hunting. Hunting is taking your time to line up a perfect shot on a slow moving/still target. This is for engaging multiple targets at varying ranges from an unseen distant location. Yeah, it sucks that you can’t use it for competition shooting, unless you want to consider the game of life as a competition. Marksmanship is the best skill to have and the less time you have between shooting from one target to the next for faster follow-up shots, the better your situation is.

Yea it’s cool…I guess. Barrett released the BORS like a decade ago and it integrates into the Elevation turret. Vortex isn’t re-inventing the wheel here.

I think tech like this is awesome BUT! not for hunting if hunting gets any more easy to shoot to another zipcode you might as well use a nailed down tripod and sit at a computer and shoot and that is not hunting...the average guy needs to put time in and learn , have some skin in the game..... this is definitely more a toy for shooters that don't use their guns a whole lot. the Russian Mosin ramp sight went up to 1000 meters and there's videos of people shooting it using iron sights at those ranges, also a guy using i think it was a Finnish Mauser with iron sights at long ranges. anyone that knows their gun will know how to aim it at any distance without the need for a calculator.

I’ve watch a tremendous amount of videos on the impact 4000 and not a single person has mounted it on the side even though it’s capable and the display rotates. Can anyone tell me why they always mount on the diving board instead?

It's twenty percent of the price of the Wilcox Raptar which is what it is competing with but if you can find a comparable product for less please let us know. The Wilcox does have some capabilities the Vortex lacks but it has probably 80% the capability of the Wilcox for 20% the price.

I agree. Even $2k is too much for a rangefinder. Just get a $250 handheld rangefinder, a notepad and pencil, a couple boxes of ammo, and fire rounds at varying distances. Way better end result.

Do I think it’s nice yes, BUT you can’t ever use this in competition or Hunt. So particularly I’m wondering why this is even out? It makes those that arent familiar with the Skills it takes to shoot long range lazy. Teaches them bad habits, teaches them to rely more on tech than their own ability to improve. With that being said, it can be a tool to help as well. Just getting them comfortable with the process. THOUGH I’d strongly recommend against using this for “Training”. Awesome gadget but most of us that can afford this would probably keep it in the house anyway.

Where you really a sniper? Don't wanna disrespect your service if you were but sometimes internet is crazy and people don't give context. So I question statements like that. I would love to shoot with you and discuss this in person and actually see the reality of skill and how far it can take you. Then when you add things like thermals, nightvision, and electronics, how much farther it can take you in certain situations.
