Excellent video!! You just got a new customer. I just picked up a 2005 R1 and this looks like the site that will help me provide the TLC I plan on giving. The "garage" tech presentation is PERFECT!! Thank you

Just installed the V3 520 -1/+2 steel with gold chain kit for my "A" model R6 and it looks balls! Wicked easy install but while i was in there cleaned all the aluminum and regreased everything within the hubs and calipers using Lucas grease so it took the better part of 4 hours. Only advice to someone changing front sprocket on older bike, buy a breaker bar if you dont have a good impact. As usual good stuff Van

Thank you, Brian. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I thought I was losing my mind with the countershaft sprocket and it's orientation. I don't have the OEM sprocket and I forgot which way mine came off, but everyone, even vortex said it was boss side out... So glad I found your shop and thanks again for these videos

Dude same thing is happening to me. But I think vortex is right, because when he put it up next the oem he wasn’t accounti for the extra height around the edges of the oem sprocket. When I set them up side by side centers on equally the all sockets, it’s different
@lolwhat6193
@lolwhat6193 4 жыл бұрын
It’s totally possible that like a 3mm difference isn’t even enough for anyone to ever notice? No matter which way idk

Derek-I ended up going boss side in, I think. When I put it on and went to the rear end to look at alignment, or seemed straighter with the shoulder facing in. Ran it on the track for 6 or so days with zero problems. Haven't looked for wear to see if it's getting eaten up fast, but it is working!
@lolwhat6193
@lolwhat6193 4 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Finn interesting. I’ve only had a couple miles on mine so far. But it looks straight to me the other way. I think the boss side, is only there so the lock nut ends up in the right spot. I know stg is far more professional with motorcycles, but idk how that comparison is valid. There is a giant ring around oem sprocket that clearly throws that test off

Hey stg I’m a little confused about my front sprocket orientation on my R6. You say to compare them side by side, but the oem sprocket has that thick ring around it, so where the sprocket meets the wheel wouldn’t be touching The table, thus throwing it off. Vortex told me to mouth it logo facing out towards me. So I’m really confused now. If I place the sprockets on equally tall sockets, they are even facing the way vortex has told me.

Is it best to initially set the rear a few mm shorter than you eventually would like it (as the new chain stretches, you adjust the rear to your ideal position)?
@sportbiketrackgear
@sportbiketrackgear 8 жыл бұрын
+Reginald J Marshall Great question! Yes you will want to make sure there is enough room for you to extend the rear wheel as the chain stretches over time! Thanks for watching!

Hey Van I just replaced the front sprocket on my FZ-10 which is very similar to this bike and went from a 15t to a Vortex 17t and its bigger than the old sprocket and the rubber piece you pulled out at 8:46 wont fit now as it rubs on the sprocket. Is it ok to ride the bike with that piece out until I get a new sprocket? I just ordered the Vortex V3 WSS kit from you guys and I'll be going back to the stock sprocket size. Also the chain and sprockets were 520 as is the new Vortex sprocket I just put on.

anyone else have a problem even getting the nut to even budge??? any secret to how easy you made it look? I'm 6'3" 250lbs and do hard labor for a living, I broke my breaker bar trying to get the nut to move.

About to order a new sprocket/chain setup from STG for the 2017 R1. Can't decide between 15/43 or 15/44 (for street use) any suggestion ?

Pascal Piana going down 1 in the front and up 2 or 3 in the rear is a very aggressive change. I would not recommend going that extreme. I would go with a 15 in the front and a 41 in the rear. I have used this set up for a bit and it increases the drive quite a bit. - Brian Van

Oh i see, Thanks for the info. So if i increase in the rear aswell while having -1 in the front it would wheelie too much ? 15/41 sounds good then
