I use a piggyback dot on my prs rifle and definitely find it's faster for spotting targets at distance to then drop into magnification.

Offset 35 deg mounted adjacent to the LPVO ocular end is excellent for fast transitioning when hunting hogs in quickly changing vegetation/ranges.

Once again I ask: What is the point of 1x on an LPVO if you are just going to put a dot on it? Also, I find it ironic that the dot is dead when the battery goes while the reticle is there forever.
@jamesdendy63845 ай бұрын
Feer has a back half cheek riser. That allows you to get a normal cheekweld using the top dot and the same cheeckweld when you really dig into the magnified optic. Solves the only drawback of the 12:00

Not going to lie, I just completed my dream build that took many many years of slowly purchasing to complete. It’s a 14.5 pinned block 2 SPR setup with a bunch of non clone correct parts. I put a nightforce nx8 2.5-20 f1 on it 2 years ago in a Badger condition one mount at 1.54 height. Today is my bday and I finished my setup last week with a Steiner MPS at the 12 o’clock. I haven’t shot it yet but I’ve been dry firing for everyday with it. I think it is amazing and very needed if you plan on using an adjustable parallax MPVO on your setup. It’s pretty awesome, for home defense my rifle will finally work, for finding far targets it’s nice not fiddling with the magnification and just worrying about the parallax. It’s just amazing. Is it weird being that high up with the chin weld over cheek weld? A little bit but it’s not bad at all. It’s also nice to still be able to use the dot on a bipod
@btjones8744 ай бұрын
Little thing I learned, and surprised it wasn't mentioned(unless i missed it in the video) but when I had a 12 o'clock rmr setup on an lpvo I was still able to accomplish the same thing as a 45 degree in the sense of maintaining a cheek weld. If you're keeping both eyes open, my rmr seeemed to line up with the opposite eye if i simply canted it like I would with a 45 degree offset.

This makes me wonder, with a top-mounted red dot, do we still need the 1X magnification on LPVOs? For myself, I think a lightweight 3-6X scope (with good eye relief and eye box) plus a top-mounted red dot would be ideal 😮💨
@johanaxelsson80744 ай бұрын
Exactly. I've moved from 1-6x to one setup with a 3-18x + top-mounted reddot on a more traditional hunting rifle and one with a 5x prism + 45 degree canted reddot on a AR-10 (where the cheek weld works great at cant). Won't go back to those small LPVOs.
@ethanparker80624 ай бұрын
12 o'clock red dots should be zeroed differently than the primary optic. This is because height over bore. Both the scope and the dot being zeroed @ 50 yards will have your red dot hold overs acting all kinds of crazy because of the how high it sits. Plugging some information into a ballistic calculator will demonstrate this pretty effective, and it can also help you choose an accept zero for your red dot.

IMO, 45* wins in competition for hard left leans or shooting to your right on close targets while moving. (RH shooter). 12 wins for nearly every other use case.

I think 45 offsets have a purpose for people using a thermal on a qd. Allows you to check zero when swapping optics, and gives you a close range optic if you have to track something into thick brush in the dark. Thermal sucks for that lol

Magnified dots are for people that don't know what they are doing. The real solution here is etched reticle micro prisms (magnified or not). This solves the stigmatism many people have and is far more accurate. Depending on what the rifle will be used for a lit up lpvo with the proper reticle checks most boxes, still, than magnified red dot. Don't waste your money unless you simply want to look cool flipping the magnifier. You're welcome.
