Grandpa had more then one gun, but he only had one that he trusted. He had a old 30-30 he purchased when he first moved to northern MN half a century ago, he purchased a 270 because he wanted a rifle with a scope as he got older, missed a deer with it the first time he used it and it got put in the cabinet and he went back to the 30-30. Don’t think my other grandpa has anything other then his 30-30, except the obligatory shotgun and 22lr for farm pest control.

11:00 if you can see the bullet hole in the target, without moving the rifle, you simply move the X on the reticle to cover the bullet hole. then fire again. that's how we did it in the military sniper schools i attended. 12:30 ok ... you covered it.

Would enjoy hearing your comments on a claim made by another scope manufacturer that an ideal scope setup is one where no more than one turn of the windage and elevation turrets should be needed to zero it. Assuming the scope left the factory with the crosshairs aligned with the optical center, it results in the crosshairs still being relatively close to the scope's sweet spot where images appear bright and sharp. The same source reported that the majority of the scopes that customers sent them for repair had their windage, elevation (or both) adjustments maxed out.
@phild9813 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I’m sure this is true. And I’m sure broken scopes are frequently at the end of the adjustment range because the adjustments weren’t working. I’ve been there with two scopes that I had to send back.

Do you recommend certain magnification on your scope for getting a 0 at a 100 yd. I like to have it maxed out but I know some people recommend not doing that.

07:12 cool idea to go to the Vortex zero the rifle event and I wish that I could go. Una problema - my work schedule and also, in Texas, rifle (general) season starts in the first weekend of November and I intend to be out there. Then again, even if you were doing this in September some time, I would still have a problem getting to Madison and then an uber or rental to where you are. Fun though it would be. Dang it, if only I was retired with too much time on my hands. I appreciate all the content that you do and all of my rifles have Vortex on them. It just works for me. The glass and reticle (EBR-7C) looks good to my eye. Edited to add: Hot dogs? Now, that is just designed to increase my envy.

Hey Guys, I agree about the methods you all talked about in regards to zeroing your rifle, meaning, mind, body, rifle & scope.. So I have some questions.. When your scope comes fresh from the box new and the dials are set to zero from the factory, does the scope come that way? set to zero meaning the scopes zero?..and if so does that mean your scope now has full designed mechanical adjustments available up down left and right? or is the scope adjusted to the scopes zero having some value on the dials out of the box and those values are the scopes zero? Also what is the scopes zero point? and what would that typicaly represent in relation to a typical rifles zero? or what the bullit would see. I guess what I want to know is how close is the scope to zero out of the box? can I reset the dials to zero when I get it dailed in? how much of the dials travel is used up to get it to the starting point? how much is left to use for shot adjustments? and how much or when am I forced to hold over typically?..I just do not know much about using scopes to their full potential english/metric ect. just get it close to iron sites set it and forget it with some kentucky windage is how I have done it sense a kid..I appreciate any help you could give me or direct me to a scopes for dummies manual :) !! Thanks and I really love your shows, T

You can use a sight in target designed for 100 yards at 50 or 200 yards. If 1 click is 1/4 inch at 100 yards that means 1 click is1/8 inch at 50 yards or 1 click at 200 yards will be 1/2 inch. Pretty simple.

I have watched several of your videos and podcasts and you guys keep talking about "the" ammo that a particular gun "likes". How do you find that specific ammo when there are so many variations to something like a 30-06 ??

It is so nice to live in a metric world. 😉 1/10 Mil = 1cm@100 Meters, 2@50 etc etc. Never understood why a mildot reticle would be combined with MOA click 2nd focalplane scope.
@1911customz Жыл бұрын
Always remember your sight in bullet weight. If you ever run out if that ammo and end up using a 10 to 15 to 20 grain lighter your shots will be higher (typically). Heavier usually hits lower.
@phild9813 Жыл бұрын
Hmm, I’m not sure this is always true. Regardless of the grain weight, if you change ammunition, you need to re-zero. Sometimes even a lot change in the same ammo can require a re-zero.
@1911customz Жыл бұрын
@@phild9813 i was mainly going off of my experiences with factory ammo. I know ot can still differ but yes, I agree on the re-zero. 9x out of 10 however, I can shoot at about 300yds in 223 and hit bullseye with each grain weight (typically dovetail) and I can just about have a perfect dope for each grain weigh shot and they all refect the above statement. It could just be me

muzzle velocity being the reason why. Heavier rounds usually shoot slower

with with most scopes I use 1inch square riffle targets are perfectly fine. every click on the turet is .25 inches so if i'm 2 inches to the right i move redical 8 clicks left at 100 yards at 50yards its 16clicks and 200yards its 4 clicks and so on. not really sure why it people need to complicate it. once you 0 you can get your group. but if your all over the place like 3 inch groups you will never really 0 a rifle.

No need to measure anything. Bore sight your rifle at 50yds, take a shot holding dead center on target, hold your reticle dead center, move your crosshairs to where the bullet impacted. Fine adjust at 100yds. Done.
@albundy7459 Жыл бұрын
I always chase. Aim at bullseye, pull trigger, aim back to bullseye, move scope to hole. Simple stupid. Don’t need to know moa or radians or even direction on the turrets. It’s almost impossible to not be on the money in 2 shots.

The Arken scopes are kicking your teeth out. My 5x25x56 Arken is clearer than all my Vipers and basically as clear as my Razors. So what’s your response
