Not a dumb question. Parallax and distance youd like for anything suitable and realistic for pistol itll be fairly negligible. Unless youre hoping to be within 3-4” each and every time which I’ll tell you past 25 yards with a pistol youd be hard pressed to find ppl who can consistently hit within that. If youre getting that deep into it just keep your dot smaller but the work is really going to be keeping your pistol or revolver solid regardless of recoil snd other things like that. Think about what you're wanting from it. Hunting vs carry vs range. Be realistic in what snd how you practice for which scenario snd roll with it

Thank you for straight forwards professional instructions. I have found with this type of sight that the locking screws can move the dot. So always lock the screws when shooting for zero. Or when you do lock them the dot moves and you are off zero. I've also found that when trying to use a weaver to 11mm dovetail adapter the whole sight will be placed left of centre leaving insufficient windage. It needs an 11mm dovetail specific mount. A variable 9-11mm mount is sloppy and skews the sight.

@agmsmith40793 жыл бұрын
Also ppl should realize the best zero depends on the ammo you use in your gun. Your barrel length effects it. I did the ballistics calculations... with my Glock 17 using S&B or PMC 124gr FMJ 9mm, 11 yards is the best zero. With an 11 yard zero you get a +2inches over the dot at around 50 yards and -2inches under your dot at 100 yards. It’s the flattest trajectory out to 100yards that I’ve found. 115gr and 147 grain are no where near as flat. If you have a shorter or longer barrel it will change the arc of the bullet and this zero may not be perfect. But I set it up with my glock34 and glock19 as well as my 17, all with an 11 yard zero (using S&B and/or PMC 124 gr FMJ range ammo) and the over/under of the dot is pretty close still pretty close to +/-2in out to 100 yards. Shooting USPSA, I’ve had courses where we had 50 and 100 yard shots on steel with our handgun and everyone struggled. I walked up, put the dot dead center on the steel silhouette and nailed it every time. With a 15 or 25 yard zero and 115gr bullets, by 100 yards you are hitting something like 12 or 15 inches below your dot, so you really need to be good at knowing your hold overs. With an 11 Yrd zero and 124 gr bullets you don’t have to really think about hold overs until you start getting out to 130 or 150 yards... and remember, this is with a handgun!!! 😱

@AMomentInTimeProductions3 ай бұрын
This is how you do it, your correct how ever for the best accurate adjustments i have this Lead Sled 3, basically it's a shooting rest (Vise) the gun is locked in and on a stand and the gun does not move what so ever even after recoil, so what you do is use that and look at the red dot point it on the X of the target, and fire the gun, now with my setup i have a remote trigger, it's connected to the trigger to make sure there is no gun movement at all and when you press the remote trigger with no movement.. With that my gun hit the X on all 10 hits i took, and this is the best way to Zero your RED DOT or Laster sight if you have one.. it works great i even use this setup to adjust my adjustable iron sites as well.. Now i have one for rifles as well and this way you can Zero your scopes as well to know it's right on the money.. Hope this helps, it is way better than holding the pistol yourself because if it don't hit the X using my setup than it's off and i do my adjustments accordingly.... best way to do it you will love it..

I agree with some of the others, I would have liked to see where the dot ended up in relation to the irons. In every case of my having adjusted a red dot on a pistol or rifle, the dot sits right on top of, or just below, the front sight. Lined up with the front sight left to right, of course. Also like mentioned by others, I too have seen dots and scopes where turning the adjustment knobs/screws sent the POI in the opposite direction of what was needed. No rhyme or reason...different brands have done this at various times.

One of the benefits of a red dot is that the red dot will move around in the window. If you superimpose them and marry them to your irons it could cause you some problems. They are two independent aiming solutions and should be treated as such.

Outstanding video now we get it without all the trying to sound smart BS ...I've seen this effect at the range low left or right with almost everyone who has a red dot & nobody has a clue ..I was on the fence about trying a red dot I'm a classic iron sight guy ,but now I'll try it thanks man

Great bid. Now if you were to shoot at 20 or even closer, would the dot stay zero or will it change?

I just got this red dot optic, shown in the video, with my Canik TP9 SFX. Looking forward to going and sighting it in! As well as looking forward to putting some rounds through my new Canik 9mm!

Thank you for the video. My first experience of sighting the new red dot on my Glock 19 was so terrible. I was thinking when you are relying on your shooting when sighting the red dot, every time you hold the gun and point it to the target, how can you be sure if the gun is 100 vertical. Just a little bit of tilting will make you shoot different every time. It was so frustrating for me and after shooting mote than 100 rounds, I just quit.

OUTSTANDING video my friend! One of the best and I've seen. Very concise and to the point. I would like to know where I can find a chart that specifies the MOA adjustment amount at certain distances, like you described at 5:08 into the video where you said "at 10 yards one moa is equivalent to about 1/10 of an inch". Thank you again for a great video!

Tip: If you have one of those mounts for cleaning that have an insert into the mag well, you can keep your handgun stable enough to zero the red dot without measuring the target or counting the clicks. After shooting your first group, just put the red dot in the middle of the target and WHILE KEEPING THE GUN PERFECTLY STILL, adjust elevation and windage so the dot is centered on your first 3 to 5 shot group (if you don’t correctly the barrel is still facing the same POI). Congratulation, your red dot is zeroed and you only need to shoot again if you want to confirm it.

Great job with this video! Question… when your just starting this process where should the red dot be placed when your looking through the window (let’s say the middle to start). Than with every subsequent correction are you moving it farther away from the center?
@VortexOpticsUSA3 жыл бұрын
It's not as important as the red dot will move around in the window as you shift your head or move the firearm around.

I wonder if it would be good to actually measure the impact point from where the center is for a better adjustment plan?

If you have a pistol where you can have cowitnessing iron sights, then it's pretty easy. Line up the iron sights, then move the red dot to just the top of the front sight post, or right on top of the dot, depending on if your pistol hits point of aim or right above the front sight post. Since red dots are zero (or near zero) parallax, this trick will work. I do this with rifle red dots and it gets it right on the paper every time, a few times it was dead on without needing any further adjustments if my irons were dead on already.

Nice video, I have a new venom and I have a big problem with the elevation adjustment , no way to adjusting Yestarday evening I had tried to move the dot with the screw up and down and I have see that when you adjust up the dot it’s going down and down going up….. it’s normal? Make me creasy on the range to regulate it, and I was thinking the red dot was stack or have same issue
