Perhaps the most instructive and carefully constructed video I’ve seen on the deconstruction and restoration of a watch. I appreciate your careful dialogue as you have taken apart each piece. This is a wonderful learning experience.

Nice movement disassembly and discovery discussion liking best that you rotate or flip each component as you remove them sharing them each with us your viewers. Thank you. Lance & Patrick.

Active Atom Thank you, I like to try and ensure that people can see each part in detail as oftentimes, you'll know yourself, plates, bridges etc can have pivot points and reduction gears and locating pegs etc on the underside. This particular watch has certainly had a hard working life and I get particular satisfaction from seeing a well used (abused?) watch ticking again. ☺ I have some HMT, Allwyn (Indian made under license miyota and Seiko) to film and one of my particular favourites, Orient to film yet. I really need to do something about the camera angles though.

I am glad you posted this video! I am working on one of these now. I disassembled to clean and found that the mainspring was broken at the end where it hooks. Cousins no longer stocks the Vostok mainspring. I have heard that a Generale Ressorts GR3126 mainspring should work as a substitute.
@spidiq82 жыл бұрын
I couldn't tell you offhand the correct GR one but measuring yours will get you one in the right area. The original Vostok springs are absolutely rubbish and always fail at the riveted/welded tail piece. Also check the pallets carefully for security, they're typically not shellacked in place well, decent robust movements otherwise.

@@spidiq8 They also used enough oil for 20 watches. Oil everywhere, even under the dial. I guess it could have been done by a repairer after the factory. Strangely, the barrel was dry, no oil.

@@johnhannon I haven't seen this with Vostok from the factory so most likely a dip in a clean and lubricator solution. Horrible stuff. You should see a marked improvement in performance after rebuild.

I should take my Komandirskie for a repair and checkup. IBefore when I wind up it stops at certain point, now at the point where it should stop there is just a faint click and then I can keep winding it. Haven't used it since I noticed that problem because I'm afraid it'd just worsen the damage.

That sounds like the tail of the mainspring has snapped. Very common on Vostok, the springs aren't the best. Are you in the UK?

@@spidiq8 I'm in Finland. I've been waiting for whole last year to take it to a specialist at Rauma when I visit grandparents. Ahh, maybe I should take hints from your impressive content of uploads, well, I could if there were any. Or maybe I should concentrate more on not obscuring the camera than what i'm doing? I don't need to explain but I shall in the hopes that your unpleasantness was an oversight. At this stage I was still figuring out ways of filming watch work, it's incredibly difficult to get it large enough in frame to see the movement and allow room to work AND not obscure it. ;)

@@spidiq8 I have no need to share content on KZbin, which does not prevent me from commenting and evaluating the content of others. Especially if it is a botch, as is your case. If comments other than patting on the back annoy you, you already know that you can turn off comments and you'll be happy in your world of color and fantasy. My clues to learn to show the images with rigor and detail, you will not find but I invite you to do it from many masters that are on KZbin in this approach with quality and without obscurations or interruptions. As well as I recommend that you leave watchmaking for adults and dedicate yourself to disassembling exhaust tubes that have less demands on visual production. ;·) Congratulations!! @@EnriqueVillasan You are absolutely free to pass comment and I am very open to discussion, recommendation and critique as you'll note if you read my many many comments that I always try to reply to. I have nothing to prove to you but you, seemingly, have a desire or need to try and put others down, it's better to try and share something that can help others than offer nothing but insults. If you care to check my later videos, you'd note that I have adjusted my setup to better film watch work in detail and with less risk of obscuring things. The only 'clown' I see here is you. As said, I share things gladly in the knowledge that MANY people find it helpful or interesting and that gives me the drive and incentive to do it and the discussions I have reflect this. You seem to be under the misguided impression that I need to prove something to you? You're the one with nothing to show but unpleasant words and my mention of this is just another example of the most hateful comments come from the most bitter people with nothing to offer themselves. Much as I 'could' turn off commenting,(I won't, I enjoy interacting and helping), you 'could' say nothing and go your way but I get the feeling that you are the type who likes to think he's had the last word and won some imaginary feud.
