Vote! 2024 U.S. Election

We don't usually get into politics here, publicly, at WolfQuest, but this year it's really important. It's really important that everyone in the United States who is age 18 or older - old enough to vote - exercise your right and vote in the upcoming election.
A lot of people are going to be affected by the outcome of this election. And a lot of animals are going to be affected too! A lot of wildlife who don't have the the right to vote... So, if not for your own interests, on their behalf (humans and animals alike), I hope that all of you who can vote, will vote.
If, at this point, you're not sure who you might vote for, definitely research the issues that you care about. For me, it's quite clear that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are the the ones I'm going to vote for... very enthusiastically! But, as Taylor Swift said, do your own research.
It's also very important to know your state laws about voting because many states require you to register a month in advance and that is coming up, early October. So, go to vote.gov and choose your state or territoryand that'll get you pointed in the right direction to get registered or check your registration - make sure it's still valid.

Right now we have two candidates, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Donald Trump has proven himself to be against the rights of wildlife, for example the Trump administration removed protection from wolves in the USA. Wolves deserve protection as they are still struggling and are still extinct in much of the USA.

This election is very very important to wildlife. Especially wolves, as when Donald Trump (the right wing candidate) was president he approved the removal of wolves from the protected species list. Wolves no longer have protection here which is very bad for their comeback. In many US states wolves are still considered extinct and in order to see their much needed return we must continue to protect them.

The Canis Lupus species is not endangered and is not classified as such, also if a state population is low they are federally protected until the population can be delisted from federal protection

Funny how you say massacred, since their delisting and removal of federal protection the Gray Wolf in NA has expanded its range and has had no serious declines to the point of mandatory quota shutdowns, contrary to popular belief wolves can do quite well under regulated harvest. Several states have done studies showing wolves can sustain regulated harvest and the varied forms of hunting we have do little to impact the overall population.

Trump won't protect anyone from the war. He will just make it easier for Russia to declare it. I still love the game due to nostalgia alone, am still looking forward to the saga, but I will no longer be supporting these devs by giving them any more money, and that’s a shame cause I was going to ask my husband for all of the dlcs as a Christmas present on top of purchasing the game again myself for our nieces and nephews for Christmas - 5 different houses so I’d have bought it 5 times for a total of 9 kids who’d all eventually in turn prob ask their parents for the dlcs too. ​@@Elenaaahh Exactly. It causes an acceleration of habitat loss as more land has to be paved and developed to make way for larger populations. The faster population grows (whether from natural birthrate or immigration), the faster habitat loss occurs. This puts more pressure on conservation efforts underway. The best way to conserve wildlife is through preservation of the habitat. Another issue is that not all peoples around the world value the same things. Not all of these cultures value nature the same and by not properly vetting the people coming into the country may result in peoples coming here that have no qualms about poaching wildlife or leaving trash in their environments. While every culture is different, by importing the third world, you end up with third world ideology where many of these people care more about self interest than preserving the environment.

Papers Please, Call Of Duty, Civilisation are just 3 of these off the top of my head. It's factually nothing new and, while I realise that 2 of these are kinda "no duh" picks-its still very evident that video games *have* done this for a long time. They also aren't doing anything political with the game itself. There are no updates like that planned. On top of all that, why should video games be the singular media that cannot have politics? Was this spur of the moment? I'm not sure there was a lot of forethought made about this post. I'm saying this as an independent voter. Why bring this into a developer blog about your game? It would have been far easier to post it on your personal social media accounts. It would have allowed for more flexibility. Why suddenly intrench your very niche game, while still in development and in need of funding into a volatile, polarizing atmosphere such as politics? It doesn't seem like a smart move on a marketing standpoint. You have cultivated a community here and in a minute and sixteen seconds, you have fractured it. Hopefully the attention spans will move along to something else, I saw a newer post made on the platform already - I'm guessing that is your hope too. I use games to escape from my personal bubble. I want immersion, a distraction, I want fun, relaxation. A way for my brain to turn off from the bombardment that is the politics, the state of the world, and how polarizing and problematic all of this is, for at least a little while. I do not like when that bubble is invaded. - Before anyone points this out to me, I am aware that I could have switched away from this video, but the brevity of it, and human nature didn't allow for that. I wanted to know if there was anything outside of the political ad for Kamala Harris/Tim Walz to see if something else was going to be said. And yes, it was a political ad for them, they made it so when they mentioned them by name and in the presentation of the video as a whole. You can say, it is important to vote, and it not be an advertisement for a candidate. As soon as the names were dropped, Dave's tone changed. Like I said, I am independent. I am not going to endorse either candidate here, I will not discuss either candidate or who I am voting for in the upcoming election. I have done research, I have watched the political atmosphere and I've been a voter since 2005. I do not condone blast ads like this, it was in poor taste. I sincerely hope the fracture it has caused does not grow or fester, I hope it doesn't affect the funding for the development of this game, as I am looking forward to seeing the progress. In the future, I hope you stick to your personal social media handles to convey such things. It turned me off this game, the fact that I have many hours with it, and have wolves saved, and a curiosity to see what you can do with it over the coming months is the only saving factor I have for it at the moment.

I have bought every DLC up to this point. Going forward I don't think I will. When developers can't separate themselves from their work it's hurtful to the game. That's too bad. WolfQuest was created to educate people about the Yellowstone wolves. If you know anything about wolves in the United States, it's all very closely connected to politics. (Really, no aspect of our lives is not tied to politics in some shape or form.) The wolves' very existence on this land depends on the decisions made by our political representatives. This is why talking about politics here is absolutely not out of place, in fact, it's warranted to some degree. I think it's admirable that the developers did not shy away from mentioning it.

I have followed WolfQuest for years, and this video deeply upset me. I do understand and agree with the importance of exercising our right to vote, and to research and elect people whose beliefs align with ours. However, I also feel that Dave interjecting his own political opinions was unethical, unprofessional, and unnecessary. This game centers around realistic wolf behavior, and are always actively working with biologists. Its clear they have a DRIVING passion for the animals they love, and they are at risk. Its important to bring up these kinds of things if anyone else also cares for these beautiful creatures. It was necessary because they're voting for people who will reinstate and protect wolves and other wildlife that need it. and thats the point of saying "hey i'm voting for this person because they support what this channel and game is about" i.e educating about wolves and protecting them. It's purpose is to entertain and educate players about playing as their own wolf in the wild. Not state who's a better politician that may or may not care about the environment. Had the devs simply made a video about doing research on how people can help wildlife in the country and offhandedly say that voting helps would be one thing. Making their stance vocal however of who they're voting for is completely unnecessary. I don't think it's correct to involve politics in games like WolfQuest. Elections are not only a phrase about animal welfare, it is a serious political topic that decides the further development of the whole country. There is NO PLACE for that policy in games... And maybe it's not that there's no place, it's just... This is inappropriate. We want to hear about the development of the game and, perhaps, about direct assistance to animals: donating money to shelters or organizations for the conservation of forests and animal species, but not that politics.

I fully agree with you, everything have your own space and politcs shouldn't not be envolved in fictional games/simulator games AT ALL. That's really sucks and i'm kinda dissapointed about this video, but i'm looking forward about the next games updates and just throw this one video in specific inside my trash lol.

I really wish WolfQuest hadn't done this, and quite frankly, for their own sake. While I agree that voting is extremely important, especially this year, there are going to be those who disagree with the liberal ideals expressed here. This will ultimately lead to opponents of said ideals to feel obligated to not buy DLCs from WolfQuest, myself included. I will still play, but, like stated, I simply can't buy anything from the team anymore in good conscience. Staying out of politics is generally the best business practice.

As a result, there's a strong chance these people will stop buying DLCs or not rating the game.. which is vital for the game to succeed and stay alive. Even more TLDR: Division amongst players + Controversy = No funds.
