Having run for elected office, the part about knocking on doors rang so true to my experiences. Many people would say "NO", some would not open their doors to say "NO". The ones who said "yes" made up for it all.

I thought this collection was cute and I planned on purchasing somethings, but after watching I will definitely not, and I feel hesitant to buy anymore things from & Other Stories. Thank you so much for trivializing and commercializing women's rights.

Laura Yeh We're very proud of working with Rachel Antonoff and Lena Dunham since they are advocates for female empowerment. We hope to incorporate humour into this very serious issue. This video sends a simple but important message: never underestimate anyone based on their gender, race or sexuality.

andotherstories And you decide to do so portraying women as silly and trivial? The comic side (if you intended to have one) just does not work and it just makes the whole thing very embarrassing for women.

andotherstories Is this the same Lena Dunham that wrote about raping her baby sister and accused an innocent man of raping her in college?
@frogsoda7 жыл бұрын
+andotherstories Lena Dunham is a large part of why feminism -is failing- has failed. (or maybe they are succeeding, if their objective is to alienate 3/4 of the population.) She is seen as a horrible person by many because she admitted to molesting her sister and she made a false rape accusation. (Yes +GeorgiaHawg, same Lena) Which is bad enough, but then all of her mindless sycophants just ignore these facts. But they will savagely attack and ruin the career of any man that dared to look crosseyed at a woman. You will never be taken seriously by a majority of people until you start policing your own house. Treat Lena Dunham the same way you would treat a conservative man that did something similar. Then _maybe_ you will be taken seriously. Until then you are just beating air.

Lucy Holm We believe girls can do anything. Sometimes that involves dreaming about dancing and having your mom as the First Lady. No matter how you contribute to the discussion of female empowerment, we hope to share one simple message: No person should be judged or underestimated based on their sex, race or sexuality.
@sophierose35059 жыл бұрын
andotherstories surely " dreaming about dancing and having your mom as the First Lady" only perpetuates a stereotype of mindless, highly naive girls? If you truly believe "girls can do anything" then why have you only shown that countlessly repeated (and inaccurate for most) notion of the female mind? Upholding female stereotypes, even if positively, can only push things backwards...

I have to say this. Sometimes the best way to say YES I'M A WOMAN, I HAVE RIGHTS, AND DREAMS, AND I'M FUN AND I'M PROUD OF MYSELF AND I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK, is this; funny with a powerful message. Not everything is serious and black or white and anger and saddness. Well done.

A girl interested in politics wants to be president. Is this the whole film? hasn't Lisa Simpson done this bit many times already. (with less dancing). I just looked up Zoe. She is 31 years old. Dear god I thought this was about a 13 year old girl daydreaming, not a grown woman. Insulting is the right word here for women.

I like Dunham's show, and she's impressive as a youngish multi-hyphenate, so I was expecting something smart, inventive, and worth forwarding to some people. How disappointing ... this is like another lame idea student film with a big budget --and probably lots of people who were talked into working on it based on "it'll be great for your resume to have worked with Lena". Confetti in the pocket at the end? For me, that was a groan-inducing revisitation of every "it was all a dream -- OR WAS IT?" student short ever made. Whoever greenlighted this script should be put on some form of career probation. The problem is not that the piece was meant to be comedic, light, whimsical, silly, or even that the main character is naive -- Tina Fey used all of those elements in 30ROCK and elsewhere while simultaneously providing insightful social critiques and being hilarious and entertaining, to give just one example. The problem is the paucity of ideas in this video. Even if they had cast more appropriately (i.e. a young girl), Audrey is presented as vapid. Unlike the cranky lady I would have listened to Audrey, but, in the end, I'm with Cranky Lady: get off my porch ... and go learn about real movement-building.

"It's my intention to speak to you today about women, children and little animals" Among other things, this shows how not feminist and empowering this video is and I believe that was not the intention. I am a woman, a feminist, I'm all about empowering women and I understood the humorous twist but definitely DID NOT relate to this video and its content.

Yeah you kind of missed the mark on this one... I'm all about liberal feminism and I love Lena Dunham but this just wasn't the right way to convey the message you were trying to convey. I mean, I understand what you're aiming for, but I can't SEE it here.

So amongst the many important issues facing a President of the USA is "small animals"? A female President would take the time to address the US Supreme Court or perhaps a group of university graduates about "small animals"? Is your suggestion that women are equally occupied with subjects such as "women, children and small animals" and view those three things as equally important? I am inclined to believe "small animals" is not a serious subject and it would be irresponsible for a President to treat it as such. So is it your suggestion that a woman President would behave irresponsibly and would not be serious? The women in my life are both responsible and serious so I don't understand why you've portrayed this woman, who holds the most ambitious of aspirations, as the opposite. Considering her own words, it's hard to underestimate this character.

Glenn Brightwell We believe in diversity, and this film is one of the many ways we tell stories and interpret the topic of female empowerment. By adding a humorous twist to a serious subject, we hope to convey a message close to our hearts - never underestimate anyone based on their gender, race or sexuality.
@glengtoot9 жыл бұрын
andotherstories Why don't you actually directly address the criticisms being articulated instead of delivering the same vacant and meaningless form response over and over again? Maybe the fact that so many find this piece disturbing is a good reason for a substantive discussion instead? You put this piece up on your youtube channel, you're responsible for it, so defend it. This piece frames the character in the same infantile way that women have often been presented in media. That is deeply offensive to anyone who actually understands that women and men are the same other than some very basic physiological differences strictly tied to reproduction. This insistence that women are feminine and men are masculine is preposterous. Femininity and masculinity are solely society constructs designed to keep men and women separate and this outmoded notion no longer has any progressive role to play in society. Any artist who seeks to perpetuate the importance of gender divisions should be criticized for that.

Glenn Brightwell We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback about this film from both press and customers throughout our social media channels. For us, it is a way to highlight this topic within our industry and speak from the heart to a wider audience. Everyone perceives this story in their own way, and we respect the different views and ideas that come to light in all the conversations surrounding it. Your passion for this subject is apparent and we’re passionate too. Our intention was not to create a literal interpretation of a female President, which we believe that viewers understand. We’re tremendously proud of this film and even though it doesn’t reflect your ideas on the topic, we hope you stay tuned and follow more of our stories as they will feature a very diverse mix of personalities and point of views, showing that there are many sides of empowerment waiting to be told.
