When I first heard of the news that Ncuti Gatwa will be playing the 14th Doctor. I was that "Who is Ncuti Gatwa. I never heard of him before". I never watch Sex Education on Netflix but after the news was announced I immediately look him up to see what he's like and his acting skills and I can definitely see the Doctor in him. I also like that RTD is taking an young relatively unknown actor like Matt Smith was when he was cast as the Doctor and showing us was he has to offer. It rather exciting actually. I have to wonder on who the actor/actress was that RTD had in mind before Ncuti Gatwa started auditioning. Maybe that person will be cast as the 15th Doctor. Who knows.

I also want the new era to be awesome, it's been a hard slog getting to this point in time, but I think it's 'time' to get excited again about this show so many people love. You mentioned your first doctor (McGann), mine was Jon Pertwee in Planet of the Spiders... and as a kid, my god, did this show fire the imagination - and its sheer creativity kept us hooked for each new episode. In 2005 RTD did the right thing - the only thing he could - with the show. Now I hope he has the freedom to make it better than ever and take us forward, through the 60th year, with pride. I think Ncuti Gatwa will be awesome.

I can imagine once he was chosen he immediately filmed his entrance scene into being the 14th, I do pray the Tardis set is not only calling back to some previous sets from Jodie, Matt and Peter's sets but something that screams this new Doctor's style. Heck give Yaz 13s sonic as a parting gift. I do hate how people treat Jodie Whittaker as it is not her fault though you do have interesting stories that Chibnal has problems properly explaining like the Doctor being the Timeless child as if it was something introduced during the Russell T. Davies or Steven Moffat era of show running doctor who it would be explained 10x better by either one of those two. I do see Russell taking cues of the timeless child plothole and making monsters that can be from the doctor's unknown forgotten past where these monster's remember the doctor but the doctor won't recognize them or would have forgotten about them.

I was disappointed with the way it was announced, but if it was going to be leaked..then fair enough, I don't really know much about him, but I didn't know that much about Matt Smith and I think he turned out to be one of the best, so am looking forward to seeing what he can do and hopefully we get some decent stories. Whilst the social media announcement does seem cheap I think that's more appropriate for the world we live in nowadays with trailers and news being dropped outta nowhere. The shock of it can make people more likely to share it like I did so gets the word out. Still get how understated they prefer to treat the show tho.

Okay, hear me out... I'm interested to see if Ncuti Gatwa will be a big energy factor for the show. But after him, we should have Paterson Joseph as The Doctor. Because Pat is just brilliant. yes he was in Doctor Who before playing another character that's unrelated, but so was Colin Baker and Peter Capaldi, so shush. OK him in the blue jacket with the turtle neck jumper the Russell T Davies bronze daleks, Jodie's tardis and a cool sonic screwdriver almost like David's and boom perfect in My opinion very blue ik but it will contrast with russles usual oranges. Not like chibnal just lighting blue and orange but warm colours surrounding this man dressed in cold colours emphasising that what came before he has to now fix. (Him and Russell lol)

Me I’m still going to watch cause it’s doctor who I don’t think chris chibnall and jodie whittaker are as bad as people make them out to be the era isn’t perfect but no era of the show has been perfect and I’m one who needs to see footage of him in the role to properly judge him I just hope they keep his outfit simple so we don’t have to break the bank to cosplay as his version for halloween or for a convention with the announcement if feels like they were going to announce it at the baftas cause when they announced him to present an award they mentioned his casting so it feels like someone behind the scenes of the award show saw the script with the announcement in it and they told the press there and they probably called for a confirmation on it and they told the social media team to get it out there to get ahead of the leak thst was about to happen cause you’re not the first whotuber I have seen make the about to be leaked claim

It adds to the drama and makes the show more emotional, and makes the doctor seem like a person by showing this kind of emotion, but in such an extreme way that it also shows how much of an alien he is

As to add on to Steven's point about Doctor who has always been progressive but it not being the story is the character of Jack (and the doctor) both being lgbtq characters and we do focus on it but its not the central focus of either of their characters its just naturally apart of them and i feel Russel will do the same here

Interesting choice! I get a lot of Matt Smith vibes from him. Hopefully he can nail the more dramatic, darker side of the character, something which 13 and Chibnall failed to do imo. It all comes down the material he is given and the quality of the scripts. I have hope for series 14. Russell is a better showrunner than Chibnall or Moffatt and has had time to develop new ideas for the show, so hopefully we get stories that are of the same quality as series 1 of the relaunch. 2 things that the show needs to do is extend the episode count from 10 to 12 or 13 per season, like the first 10 series and please for the love of god get rid of the daleks for at least 2 series! The last time they were good were in The Parting Of The Ways, give them a rest!

I'm in love with the casting of Ncuti as The Doctor, I can really see it, he's a fantastic actor that has proven with Sex Education that he can really steal the show, especially with the more Eric-centred episodes, and with Russell. T. Davies back at the helm as the showrunner, he's definitely in safe hands, and I can certainly see RTD and Ncuti being a huge power duo for the show going forward, and will bring a fresh take to the show and restart and revamp the glory days of Doctor Who, and I say the best of luck to the both of them, I have the utmost faith in them.

Sorry but he got the job because he's gay and black. Interviews, especially the one from the baftas with the interviewer spouting out "agenda" shite filled me with dread. He's never actually talked about his sexual orientation. You're basing that purely on either his role on sex education or the way he dressed for the BAFTAS. he got then role because what he wasn't a straight white male everything else was secondary. i honestly think he will be a good doctor. unfortunately i do NOT see the show regaining the numbers it saw in the tennant era. it may go as high as the smith era's highest. it surely will surpass jodie's which WILL not be tough. the show under davies WILL continue to be politically progressive, to its detriment.
