Nice work Johnny, It's starting to look like the real thing, decals and weathering will tone it down and make it even more realistic. The paint mixing is a credit to you, well done.

Thanks Gerry👍I was hesitant at first, but the unusual tone of blue helps keep the details visible while still being dark, not as dark as navy blue obviously. Got lucky with the mix, but I'll take luck over skill any day, lol. Take care and model on my friend! Johnny

Thanks Ian👍I wasn't too sure about using the Ink Spot Blue, but I think it gave us just enough blue to keep it from being a dark navy blue. Should come together nicely! Have a great weekend my friend! Take care and model on! Johnny

Hi John, was watching your cockpit build of the Corsair, what a great cockpit, the detail is outstanding. I'd like to make a suggestion as to your black wash. When you are in a color as to the greenish yellow base you applied to your cockpit and wheel bay and other parts then applied the black wash it looked fine. BUT here I go, when you are in a color as in green stay in that color choice range. So we base, go one step darker in our wash, so add a darker green, then for your highlight dry brush, add a lighter green than your base. You can also add an artist oil filter of raw umber on top of the whole deal, This softens the dry brush and ties the whole deal together thus creating scale effect. Give this a try on some spare parts and see if you like it, if not it's like Bob Ross says, "It's your little world and do what pleases you". Like I've said, you build really well and have a very pleasing finished piece, but you might like your enhancements better if you stay in the chosen color range. A color wheel can take the confusion out of how to go when trying my suggestion. As a kid I was fortunate enough to be tutored by 4 Master builders, one guy Bill Prichard was a Grand Master that built the 1/16th scale Indians that are in the Smithsonian in Washington. Henry Lion was another Grand Master figure painter, he has a book called "My Way". Hal Marshman and Bill Collins were both Master Aircraft builders. So I feel it is my duty to pay it forward to teach what they taught me. So John give my suggestion a try and I do have some instruction of this on the Bill Grigg PMCMP You Tube. Keep on building and producing a great finished piece. Your pal Bill G.

Hi Bill, great suggestion and wonderful insight. I can see how this approach can greatly increase the visual effect creating a more lifelike appearance. This would really enhance an aircraft that is in 1/32 or 1/35 scale, the larger scale would really lend itself to the added color modulation that your method would render. But, I'm not sure that all of that effort would pay off considering the limited amount of viewable area in the cockpit of a 1/48 scale aircraft like this corsair. And some aircraft, like a P51 or Me109 have even smaller cockpit openings to view the interior. Of course, adding a pilot would restrict this even more, and all of this is in shadow as well. The only things we really see in the cockpit when the model is fully assembled is those things that have high contrast. As for the landing gear bays, we could get the desired effect but then again at 1/48 scale they too will be in shadow and not very visible unless the aircraft is being handled, which most modelers cringe at the thought of someone handling their model! LOL. 🫨 I mostly us water-based acrylics for my painting, but they do not lend themselves to dry brushing very well, they dry too fast to blend even with the use of an extender. So then the other problem to tackle is to match the color to an oil base pigment for use as a liner or for dry brushing. My coloring skills have come a long way but I'm not sure I'm that good, yet 😁. When I get some time to do some experimenting, I'll give your approach a try and see what I can come up with. Thanks for taking the time to educate me, you're a good friend Bill and I really appreciate that. Johnny

@@hillbillymodeling John you are more than welcome, I do use this color method on all scales and all subjects, it was drilled into me with those 4 guys I wrote about, also it was a subject of great discussion several times at what I called "Saturday Night Open Build" I held at the Hobby Shop I owned on the Canal at Cape Cod for 11 years. We experimented there like possessed crazy persons, it's how I accomplished fire, tons of (Bob Ross) happy little mistakes, but now my fire has earned several Best Of Shows. Of which, may I brag, I have 15 of. Am looking forward to the upcoming contest season. I have 2 pieces I am very curious to see how they do. The first is a kit bash of an SU-25 Frogfoot married to the Minillnum Falcon cut to pieces and stretched, it looks like a guitar. The other is another kit bash with an A-4 Skyhawk joined to an F-7U Cutlass turned upside down with 2 MIG-21 tail surfaces, top and bottom and I think Mirage forward cunards. Painted this in purple, it actually looks like a real aircraft, I'm going to enter it in 1/48 twin engine jet. I build almost every subject available, EXCEPT Cars, they are way to clean for my taste, I love Sci-Fi and classic Hollywood monsters and give me a 1970's Revell 1/32 WWII Aircraft and I'll crash it in a half second. Crashes are very demanding in extreme detail, especially when you rot out the air frame to show all the interior detail. Right now I'm addicted to 1/16th scale figures, especially Civil War dudes, Vouaves get me all fuzzy, can't get enough of them. SO when you get a chance give that color method a shot, I explain it on You Tube with the 1/48 Spooky Gunship build interior. Do it on something you can experiment on of which you don't care a lot about. Also I wouldn't suggest some of the stuff I write you about if I didn't think you were worthy of it, BECAUSE you do build GREAT, keep up the good work and we'll talk soon. Bill G.
