Hi Johnny, it is a shame about the hairspray bubbling but a very nice job with the toothpick especially round the pistol port, as you mentioned, it’s the little details that make it pop! 👍 the hairy tank made me chuckle 😂, the tracks look fab, I’ve tried Andy’s approach from ahhq’s but your final effect is better with just the rust pigments, looking great so far my friend, stay safe and see you next Friday 😊 (I’m not saying Andy’s isn’t any good btw, it’s probably the way I’ve done it 🤪)

Thanks Ian, yes, the little things really make the model. I'm a fan of Andy too, but I just like using the pigments over a dark acrylic like German panzer grey, I think it looks better, and we can semi-fix it into place with the enamel thinner which keeps the pigments from fading, it seems to do a pretty good job. Take care my friend, see you next Friday. Johnny

Hi Johnny, I really enjoyed this video with all of the hull and turret chipping. I am very impressed with your attention to detail on the Turret cross, the amount of masking involved is just incredible. From what I could see during the video the "Swipe" that you took out of the top of the cross did not really look out of place given the many lumps and bumps and other eye distracting items in that area. Furthermore, you made a point during the presentation that these markings were not always applied with great attention to detail and could have been applied with brushes and even cloth. Given such a situation, I would think that straight lines and constant thickness were subject to the skills of the tanker who got assigned the job. Very much looking forward to next Fridays episode. Take care.
@hillbillymodeling

Hi Gerry, yes that is correct, the crews were responsible for painting the Berlin markings on themselves. I've seen examples of both poorly painted and almost expertly painted ones, not to mention all the variations in-between. I'm sure either way someone will take issue with it, LOL! 😂But in the Hillbilly army we take pride in our tanks 😁. Thanks so much for watching my friend, always glad to hear from you! Thanks for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. You are correct that IS is the correct identification for this tank. Hey Johnny, great build! I enjoyed watching this series. I'm about to start mine and I couldn't help but admire the tools that you use to assist with the masking. Both are metal, 1 is obviously a pick but the other has a flat small angled head on it that you used to make sure the masking tape was stuck to the hull. Do you know what that tool is called and can you provide a link where you got it from? Than you from Canada!
@hillbillymodeling
@hillbillymodeling 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words Joe, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and that you are building your own Swift boat! The tool you're asking about is actually just a small metal sculpting tool, it's specifically for clay modeling, but works equally well when modeling with 2-part modeling putty to make things like sandbags, but I find it quite helpful for other things like masking! These usually come in a 4-tool pack of different sizes, hope that helps. Take care and model on! Johnny

🛵 Something new i'm doing with my tank models is pre-texturing. Videos have shown me that instead of cursing dings, dents and imperfections in the armor, i'm adding them beforehand. Even light tanks have random similar dents that I add with a drill with various bits. With heavies i gauge out quite a few chunks. I leave no straight edge completely straight. Then some liquid cement like Polystruct or even texture paste if it's Russian. I spray all running gear parts black, especially the back and insides. I don't even de-sprue the wheels until these processes are completed. I overdo it just a bit since paint will subdue it considerably. It's something you can't do once it's all painted.

Progressing well Johnny! A few other KZbinrs have said that the Microscale liquid mask is very grabby, making it hard to remove. That may be why it took you a while to remove.
@hillbillymodeling
@hillbillymodeling 12 күн бұрын
Yes, it's pretty grabby, I've heard that from a few other modelers as well. It's hard to get it all off without leaving some residue behind. I think it has something to do with the fact that I didn't give the model a coat of gloss clear before applying it, if it's applied on a flat paint surface, it has more to grip onto. Most time we create our own problems, LOL. So now we know! Thanks so much for watching Simon, take care my friend, have a great weekend! Johnny

What a great video! I will start building my first tank model soon, and have a quick, maybe silly question please. What is the diameter of the wooden sticks that you are using for holding the wheels for painting, and are those universal/applicable to working with other Temiya tank models that you built? I think it's a great idea for painting and I am trying to get those. Thanks very much for your reply in advance.

Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it. I use 2 different dowls for painting the roadwheels and drive sprockets, the diameters are 1/8 and 3/16 inch. I just cut the dowls to about a 3-inch length which seems to work well for me. The dowls usually come in 36-inch lengths so you can get 12 holders out of each dowl.
