Finally (and somewhat unexpectedly) someone tried some palm muting with the High Gain settings. I like versatility but Metal is my main style and knowing if there is some punch when doing a palm muted chug style rhythm is important. That would be my only real complaint about VOX amp reviews (in general) is they tend to always use the same sort of guitar and that hurts VOX's chances of expanding their user base. Yes it's still a Fender but at least there is a humbucker in it.

Vox fanboy here... I have an AC15C1 and I LOVE IT. It's an incredible piece of "kit" as they say over there. I also have the VT20X and it's a winner as well. On the VT20X I hooked a speaker jack to the speaker wires and I use it to run a Marshall MG4X12 and it sounds awesome. (It was necessary to drill a small hole in the back - sealed cab - to run the cable to the 4x12. If you can afford an AC, GET IT. If not, the VT series is more than worth the money.

nice comparisons. I was shopping for a Vox and had a go on the VT and then an AC15 - no comparison! The tone and presence of the AC15 was amazing in comparison to the AC15 'tone' on the VT. I gig with the AC15 which is fine for most things but needs a fair bit of tweaking during a gig and I had to buy an AB switch to be able to channel switch. I've since tried the AV60 and am very tempted - it sounds good, is light and has a range of amp models which would make gigging easier. Also, the AC15 needs the valves changing which, while easy, costs money. I would also love an FX loop (which I think the AC60 has).

@@AlexK-iq2ej Hi, I ended up buying the Vt40X It's a great little amp, light as a feather and very loud. I took it to a jam recently, and only had it up about half way to sound good with the un-mic'd drums, so you could gig small pubs with it. It's also very flexible. With the tone room app, you can get pretty much any sound you want. so pretty happy with my decision, The VT40x does everything I wanted it for.

I use an AV30 with my rock band. Way loud enough for practising with the group. For gigs, I turn it only 1/3 up (10:30h) and mic it up to have a better balance in the room on the PA. But I'm sure it would be loud enough on it's own if necessary.

Just an aside here.. In 2004 (maybe 2005) I bought a VOX Valvetronix ADVT-120. When I got it home and plugged in my PRS Custom 24, I started messing around with the huge number of settings. I read and reread the manual… bottom line, I’m sure it’s a beast of an amp.. but I get a headache every time I use it (and this is 19 years later). I’ve got 2 amps I use now.. a Laney IRT-SLS and a Boss Nextone Special….both are much easier on my mind…

I love my VT100. Only problem, it weighed an absolute ton, so I took my time and neatly chopped it to create a separate amp head and cabinet. I dumped the metal grill and replaced it with some VOX diamond ox-blood speaker fabric and made a black, wooden plinth on wheels with four recesses for the cabinet feet to stop it slipping off. The plinth has a small door, so I can use it to store the VOX foot switch pedal when I'm not using it. I'm extremely pleased with the results. Much easier to carry around and sounds amazing. I won't ever be parting with it.

In my opinion, the AC60 (as well as the AV30) are two amps that not only have more nice than bad sounds, they also come close to what i would answer if anyone would ask me to design my perfect amp for home, rehearsal, and small gigs: I would like the amp to be light, compact, and well build, versatile in sound but intuitive to operate (for those `rare` occasions where the light is bad and the band inpatient ;)), at least 2 (but preferably 3) channels, have reverb (always on with me :)) , an effect loop (i cant understand that it was left out of the design off AC30vr), and a boost function. Surprisingly, it has been very difficult to find a (affordable ;)) amp that comes close these requirements (suggestions welcome :)), but apart from the boost function, the AV30 and AV60 fullfill all these requirements. I see the fully analog design and, the modulation and delay effects as nice extras. The fact that the effect return t you can use the tube poweramp characteristics eith the effect return is actually pretty amazing, and makes it also a very nice power amp for any digital modelling preamp. I do prefer my knobs on the front and not on the top, as i like my amp to be slightly tilted, and i do think the AV30 and AV60 are unfortunetely pretty ugly to look at ;). (If it was me, i would design every VOX amp with their iconic traditional look). I have been looking at the possibility to 'rehouse' an AV30 in a Pathfinder 15 enclosure (i know, it is also a nice amp, but it has much less versatility)
@P_Beard_59615 жыл бұрын
Question, for those of you who own any of these. How close do you think any of the VR series are to the proper AC series. Also, how loud is the AV15? Could you gig with it, at a push?
@jayjayripoff5 жыл бұрын
Don't know if you ever hot an answer for this... but I had the AC30VR for many years. Gigged it loads, it can be enough to be heard, but not enough to be 'impactful' in a band. Most of my time with it it was mic'd up. I cant imagine the 15w will do it either. I have an AC15C1 and gig that now. AC30VR vs AC15C1 side by side comparison with an AB switch, I got the 30vr up to maxed out at home... I got the AC15 up to about just after quarter and had to turn down, way too loud for home. In band practice the AC15 is up at about half way on the master and is holding up against the drummer, gig time and it's nearly 3 quarters, but I could use the preamp volume a bit more too...

When talking amp tones, what does the word "darker" mean?
@PoorTom4 жыл бұрын
Bassy, muffled, sometimes muddy, without much definition. The opposite of bright, trebly, sparkly, spanky tones which are (at least in my opinion) the Vox signature tone, though then can sound dark. For an example, humbuckers are usually way darker than single coils. Usually darker tones have a less pronounced attack, overly bright tones can sound shrill and ice picky.

I think the AV"s sound better than the VT's. But of course the all-tube AC's sound the best. 😉

Ac30. Sorry but if you're getting a massive amp get the good one.

If you were cordially invited to play You Will Never Walk Alone at Anfield on a Sunday afternoon match against the Red Devils, which of those three would you use? Imagine yourself standing in the mid circle n the Kop is pulsing, electricity crackling in the atmosphere n the players n fans have their fisted arms on their hearts. What's your amp gonna be? You know it's a slow song with lots of room for tasty fillers in between those chords n made for a Purple Rain like grand finale of a Free Bird solo at the end 🎶😎

Hi, I saw the demo and I'm undecided between av60 and vt40x or vt100x, from the demos the impression is that it sounds warmer than vt40x or vt100x, ignoring the much wider effects in the vtx models as sound is better ? is it more similar to a pure valve than vtx? Thank you.

Hey bro, i’m a fan of vox amps and i love ac tones but unofortunately i can’t afford an ac30 or 15 so i’m thinking on an ac30vr but is it good for bedroom playing and gigs? And also can i play hard rock like ac/dc with it?

Would an av60 be good for live gigs?
@PMTVUK7 жыл бұрын
Definitely! That's a great amp for live gigs and studio work. Just make sure you mic them up! -Lee

I'm not enough into Vox to get an AC, and I don't feel like the VT keeps up with the Fender Mustang II series which I already have, but I am really considering an AV60 they sound amazing and versatile and great price
