Brilliant demo. Mate, I'm old enough to be your grandad and have seen and owned so much gear in my time (still waking the neighbours) and your demo is superb. You demonstrate the sounds of each amp and sound type with sensible, appropriate licks with the minimum of fuss. Excellent stuff, charismatic and clear.

Finally (and somewhat unexpectedly) someone tried some palm muting with the High Gain settings. I like versatility but Metal is my main style and knowing if there is some punch when doing a palm muted chug style rhythm is important. That would be my only real complaint about VOX amp reviews (in general) is they tend to always use the same sort of guitar and that hurts VOX's chances of expanding their user base. Yes it's still a Fender but at least there is a humbucker in it.

Vox fanboy here... I have an AC15C1 and I LOVE IT. It's an incredible piece of "kit" as they say over there. I also have the VT20X and it's a winner as well. On the VT20X I hooked a speaker jack to the speaker wires and I use it to run a Marshall MG4X12 and it sounds awesome. (It was necessary to drill a small hole in the back - sealed cab - to run the cable to the 4x12. If you can afford an AC, GET IT. If not, the VT series is more than worth the money.

nice comparisons. I was shopping for a Vox and had a go on the VT and then an AC15 - no comparison! The tone and presence of the AC15 was amazing in comparison to the AC15 'tone' on the VT. I gig with the AC15 which is fine for most things but needs a fair bit of tweaking during a gig and I had to buy an AB switch to be able to channel switch. I've since tried the AV60 and am very tempted - it sounds good, is light and has a range of amp models which would make gigging easier. Also, the AC15 needs the valves changing which, while easy, costs money. I would also love an FX loop (which I think the AC60 has).

I have an AC30HW2, which is the hand wired production AC30. I've had Marhalls, Mesa Boogies, a Rivera and assorted Fenders (still have a Champ for practice and recording). The AC30 will probably be the last "big" amp I'll own. It's very dynamic like the C2 you're demoing. Who needs channel switching??

1. AC (obv, but not affordable for most) 2. AV (amazing amazing, best hybrid analog amp... except get the AV60 if you wanna take it out and gig with the drummer , the AV30 and AV15 are more of home practice amps) 3. VT (it's a digital modeling amp... one of the better ones but still, you will need the 100W version only, if you wanna sound good with a drummer)

How much headroom it has on the clean channel so I can stick some pedals in front without it getting crunchy. How loud it is.. all that. I gotta hand it to ya guy!! From one Punny fella to another Punny Fella, it should go without saying but I might as well say it…..”fella’s from 2 different Bella’s”…..lololol…idk if u remember me but I am the guy who talked abt collaborations, I got ur e-mail, I’ll send u one back soon, life and its situational restraints beckoned my presence in it chambers to take care of not 1, not 2…..but 22 of its concubines and well its “hard” to take care of the lot of them, but hey when ur me…..well let’s just say understanding got told what to understand when I told it that all it ever knew is wrong and Chuck Norris writes History because Chuck Norris alone wins wars…needless to say but I’m gonna…..it understood!….lolol…..bro, absolutely killed it, loved the vid, excellence as always, my fav one was the “tremolo-no” pun, that one there was a knee slapper and a half, I own a VT40X and it’s everything I’ve dreamed of and a lot more!! Especially with the Toneroom where endless boundless joys await to be found and used to smash thine enemy to and fro’ for its the gift of the Metal Gods for us to conquer and reign free from the Sméagol of genres which is twice as ugly and thrice as problematic pop-culture….anyways on the real note bro, if u still wanna look at, listen to or just plain ol’ chat for sum laughs and collabz hit me up, inspirations and hallucinations await good sir, wait did I say hallucinations…..ha I suppose I did…hmm……good day to u good sir!! @@AlexK-iq2ej Hi, I ended up buying the Vt40X It's a great little amp, light as a feather and very loud. I took it to a jam recently, and only had it up about half way to sound good with the un-mic'd drums, so you could gig small pubs with it. It's also very flexible. With the tone room app, you can get pretty much any sound you want. so pretty happy with my decision, The VT40x does everything I wanted it for.

I use an AV30 with my rock band. Way loud enough for practising with the group. For gigs, I turn it only 1/3 up (10:30h) and mic it up to have a better balance in the room on the PA. But I'm sure it would be loud enough on it's own if necessary.

Just an aside here.. In 2004 (maybe 2005) I bought a VOX Valvetronix ADVT-120. When I got it home and plugged in my PRS Custom 24, I started messing around with the huge number of settings. I read and reread the manual… bottom line, I’m sure it’s a beast of an amp.. but I get a headache every time I use it (and this is 19 years later). I’ve got 2 amps I use now.. a Laney IRT-SLS and a Boss Nextone Special….both are much easier on my mind…

What amp will you choose for just such casual but warm moments. The guitars available to you in fhis situation is, let's say, a Les Paul Junior, an Artcore from Ibanez, a homemade Tele type with a hum pup on the neck?😁🎶 And your friend has one of those Roland Cubes😉

I love my VT100. Only problem, it weighed an absolute ton, so I took my time and neatly chopped it to create a separate amp head and cabinet. I dumped the metal grill and replaced it with some VOX diamond ox-blood speaker fabric and made a black, wooden plinth on wheels with four recesses for the cabinet feet to stop it slipping off. The plinth has a small door, so I can use it to store the VOX foot switch pedal when I'm not using it. I'm extremely pleased with the results. Much easier to carry around and sounds amazing. I won't ever be parting with it.

In my opinion, the AC60 (as well as the AV30) are two amps that not only have more nice than bad sounds, they also come close to what i would answer if anyone would ask me to design my perfect amp for home, rehearsal, and small gigs: I would like the amp to be light, compact, and well build, versatile in sound but intuitive to operate (for those `rare` occasions where the light is bad and the band inpatient ;)), at least 2 (but preferably 3) channels, have reverb (always on with me :)) , an effect loop (i cant understand that it was left out of the design off AC30vr), and a boost function. Surprisingly, it has been very difficult to find a (affordable ;)) amp that comes close these requirements (suggestions welcome :)), but apart from the boost function, the AV30 and AV60 fullfill all these requirements. I see the fully analog design and, the modulation and delay effects as nice extras. The fact that the effect return t you can use the tube poweramp characteristics eith the effect return is actually pretty amazing, and makes it also a very nice power amp for any digital modelling preamp. I do prefer my knobs on the front and not on the top, as i like my amp to be slightly tilted, and i do think the AV30 and AV60 are unfortunetely pretty ugly to look at ;). (If it was me, i would design every VOX amp with their iconic traditional look). I have been looking at the possibility to 'rehouse' an AV30 in a Pathfinder 15 enclosure (i know, it is also a nice amp, but it has much less versatility)

Question, for those of you who own any of these. How close do you think any of the VR series are to the proper AC series. Also, how loud is the AV15? Could you gig with it, at a push?
@jayjayripoff
@jayjayripoff 5 жыл бұрын
Don't know if you ever hot an answer for this... but I had the AC30VR for many years. Gigged it loads, it can be enough to be heard, but not enough to be 'impactful' in a band. Most of my time with it it was mic'd up. I cant imagine the 15w will do it either. I have an AC15C1 and gig that now. AC30VR vs AC15C1 side by side comparison with an AB switch, I got the 30vr up to maxed out at home... I got the AC15 up to about just after quarter and had to turn down, way too loud for home. In band practice the AC15 is up at about half way on the master and is holding up against the drummer, gig time and it's nearly 3 quarters, but I could use the preamp volume a bit more too...

WHEN IT COMES TO VALVES PRE AMP VALVES LAST ALOT LONGER, THEY BASICALLY HAVE 2 PRE AMP VALVES BUT 1 IS USED IN THE POWER AMP, THIS IS VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT -> ALWAYS LET THE VALVES WARM UP FOR ABOUT 3 OR 4 MINUTES TO BE SAFE, IF YOU PLAY RIGHT AFTER TURNING ANY VALVE AMP ON YOU WILL BURN THEM OUT VERY FAST SO ALWAYS LET THEM WARM UP, I DO 5 MINUTES TO BE SAFE

Say, you're about to put your originals on record for the 1st time in your life through the Reaper DAW which you haven't yet mastered😊and your songs are founded upon music that's like Country Rock with Punk Rock driving rhythm riddled in the right places by Keith Richards type of tasty licks in between those chord changes as you interact with your metronomical drummer, what amp will you be utilizing then? And, you're playing your homebuilt teak wooded Telecaster guitar with the Squier Bullet bridge hum for your neck pick up?

Great Amp! depends how loud your drummer is and what genre your playing? There is a VT100X if you need more volume - www.pmtonline.co.uk/vox-valvetronix-vt100x-modellng-amp

the AV has tubes but whatever jiggery-pokery is happening isn't likely affected by them. I bet the AV's can even run without them.

I bought a VT20x a couple years ago. It had an annoying background rumble/hiss during note/chord decay on the clean channels. Has that been fixed? I really wanted to like that amp but the clean channels were completely unusable due to the background noise.

They both appear to be the same as for hybrid tube/ss amps with the exception of the VT having the digital effects area.

When talking amp tones, what does the word "darker" mean?
@PoorTom
@PoorTom 4 жыл бұрын
Bassy, muffled, sometimes muddy, without much definition. The opposite of bright, trebly, sparkly, spanky tones which are (at least in my opinion) the Vox signature tone, though then can sound dark. For an example, humbuckers are usually way darker than single coils. Usually darker tones have a less pronounced attack, overly bright tones can sound shrill and ice picky.

If you were cordially invited to play You Will Never Walk Alone at Anfield on a Sunday afternoon match against the Red Devils, which of those three would you use? Imagine yourself standing in the mid circle n the Kop is pulsing, electricity crackling in the atmosphere n the players n fans have their fisted arms on their hearts. What's your amp gonna be? You know it's a slow song with lots of room for tasty fillers in between those chords n made for a Purple Rain like grand finale of a Free Bird solo at the end 🎶😎

Hi, I saw the demo and I'm undecided between av60 and vt40x or vt100x, from the demos the impression is that it sounds warmer than vt40x or vt100x, ignoring the much wider effects in the vtx models as sound is better ? is it more similar to a pure valve than vtx? Thank you.
