The VOX Bobcat and Lynx semi-hollow body guitars were produced in Italy during the mid-1960s. They featured unusual pickup configurations and a distinct look, which we have revived in the new Bobcat V90 and S66. As befitting their revival, we have kept the historic design of these guitars unchanged, but brought them up to date by improving their playability, controlling acoustic feedback, and raising the performance of the pickups.
The Bobcat V90 is a semi-hollow body guitar that features soapbar pickups. It has a vintage-inspired design that mostly stays true to the original Italian-made Lynx guitar, but features some modern improvements.

These are absolutely great professional quality instruments - in person the look, feel, play and sound much nicer that Epiphone and Gretsch Streamliner/Electromatic guitars. They are on a par with Guild Newark Street guitars. I bought the S66 about 6 months ago and love it. Just last week I also bought the V90. Absolutely brilliant guitars!

I own a 1968 VOX Apollo guitar made in Italy. My father bought it for me new for about $350. A lot of money back then. It still plays like a dream. The only problem is that the electronics are in one integrated circuit driven by a battery. Way ahead of its time but only the tone and volume work now. The e tuner and distortion no longer work. I won’t upgrade it as I want to keep everything stock. I always think of my father when I play it and appreciate that he was supportive of my wanting to play in a band. The model you show here looks very much like my Apollo. Nice review as always!

I just love the sound of P90s thick but still have great clarity. Guitar itself looks mega ! Been looking to get something different in my collection like a Gretsch streamliner or an Epiphone Casino. Something a little different to a 335. Love the old school tailpiece ! And the wonderful playing as well !

Very smooth warm sounding guitar with modern retro look. I wonder what it sounds like through a Vox AC30. Good to see Vox introducing guitars again, shame that they will never be made in the UK again. Thanks Jonathan for another great demo featuring your "Magic Fingers" smooth playing style.

The only thing is these aren't P90s. They've got slug magnets like a Strat. In fact, size-wise, they split the difference between a Strat and Jazzmaster.

Jonathan, I was surprised to hear that these Vox's were made by EKO in Italy, because I have previously owned two of EKO's( much better) acoustics.Unlike those crazy Italians making really cool weird looking electrics, their standard dreadnought steel string acoustics were of a more traditional look. From memory, I think they probably had laminated tops, but any harshness in the sound that may have caused was smoothed out by the deep body- and the large block of wood into which the neck was bolted. This meant they were cheaper to build , in a factory that was used by them to build all kinds of consumer goods, from bicycles to beach balls to sun umbrellas to crickey bats! Also you could pick these guitars up cheap if you got them second hand. With the bolt on necks, set up and action were always good in a battered old acoustic for sale in a junk shop. I had one with a pickup set like the Gibson(J45 E?) it had a tone and volume knob right on the soundboard, but it sounded really good acoustically, and electrically it sounded so much better than the piezo/crystal under bridge transducers that were just starting to come out. They always sounded a bit warmer than Japanese guitars of that time(although I owned two myself) and were pretty sturdy and indestructible ( unlike the electrics the same company produced(switches would fall apart , plastic fittings would break etc).I don't really like that sort of alt retro look in guitars myself but it did sound lovely!

Hi Jonathan, nice smooth playing, just like flying over the clouds at 30.000 feet. About the guitar, it looks like Ibanez 335 clones, probably made in same Cort Korean plant. Plywood means laminated, like the Gibs 335 had 3 layers of maple/poplar/maple, here it may be 3 layers of maple, crossing the wood veins between each layers to strengthen it after gluing them together in a mold. I'm not a fan of the V90/P90 pick ups, only Pete Townshend and Carlos Santana made so good with their SG P90 in '69.

Hi, I've been shopping around for a semi-hollow guitar and I tried the Gibson ES335 but the neck was really uncomfortable to play. I have a small hand. I currently play a strat and that feels really good. Is this VOX Bobcat have a slimmer neck?
