This organ has 1960's written all over it! Very unique sound and decade defining indeed because by the early 1970's the Continentals went to the wayside and the Moog synthesizers started to take hold.

Definitely a thinner sound than a Hammond B3. The Vox and Farfisa organs weren't suitable for earthy blues or funky jazz. But they were great when laying "pads" behind rock groups like the Animals or the Doors.
@gasolineandwine7 жыл бұрын
Something I've come to realize recently is that while both the Vox and Farfisa were amazing organs, they couldn't compete with the versatility and the iconic sound of a Hammond organ. If you buy a Farfisa or a Vox versus a Hammond, you'll find yourself using it sparingly. Hammonds cover far more ground, and have been used a lot more. Still, both are mindblowing instruments.

Do you think that the sine wave harmonics produced by Hammond organs can re-create the sounds of these transistor organs?
@therealborischang7 жыл бұрын
They also didn’t damage your back trying to schlep them from gig to gig.
@SharkRecordFilms6 жыл бұрын
I think comparing legendary instruments like a Vox and a Hammond would be nothing short of silly. Transistor Organs have their history ingrained in the Psychedelic Rock of the late 1960's. Hammond is clearly more popular today and has remained an icon for multiple genres that span wider than the niche transistor organs of the 1960's.
@despicabledog6 жыл бұрын
what a stupid comparison. Each instrument has his own unique sound, nothing is better or worse, it depends on the kind of music it is used for. Also the Hammond is huge.

Thank you for sharing this awesome instrument. One question I have is...For many years into this day, the Hammond B-3 was considered the gold standard in rock and prog music, especially when paired with the equally legendary Leslie doppler speaker. Your Vox as demonstrated here also features that classic, warbling, doppler sound. Is this achieved internally by the instrument's hardware or is this an amplifier effect of some kind that you have implemented after the signal leaves the instrument? Thanks again for your video here. I am huge fan of so much of the rock and prog music that this instrument was used to create.
@maverandrej10 ай бұрын
All the sounds you hear are internally, done by the analogue keyboard Vox. It is a special instrument used by The Doors, The Beatles, The Animals... Just look for songs like: Monkees "I'm a Believer", Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl".. and many more!

Please help, What are those fancy fast tricks called? I know how to play the basic major and minor scale and I know how to shape chords but I want to dig deeper and get better.
