ARGUMENT: "BUT China banned some of our stuff like Facebook and KZbin! COUNTER ARGUMENT: The reason China banned them is because those companies refused to follow China's regulations, whereas the US banned Huawei and Tiktok, etc, with ZERO proof of any wrong doing. Meanwhile the US is the biggest spy. For example, German intelligence found 10 back doors in CISCO products, while they found ZERO in Huawei's. The US wants freedom while they are enforcing anti freedom and censorship at the same time. xD EDIT: Watch Nathan Rich's "Why China banned Facebook" video for an in depth explanation of some of the regulations China asked these companies to follow. TikTok was caught monitoring clipboards, and literally seeing every key you typed (when Apple had an update that showed when user data was being used by apps). ByteDance got in legal trouble when it didn't follow Xi's ("president" of China) information sharing guidelines (they had to apologize and say they won't do it again essentially) awhile back, so how are they going to claim that they're not sharing information with China? As a conservative who firmly believes in uncensored internet, I think it's critical not allowing foreign governments to have information on future presidents and senators sitting in a database. And I think what Trump is doing with forcing them to sell their US TikTok operations (which Vox conveniently ignored this fact) is a good way of keeping the internet uncensored and not having US citizen's data in China's hands. This entire video was just a convenient sailing of the ship through this situation that fitted their agenda, I only watch Vox's videos to see what the economic elites are wanting the public to know, and therefore knowing where the future is heading.

So, I think it's beneficial to understand that the US government isnt banning tik tok as a form or "we must control our country's internet" and is strictly doing so as a part of a world wide anti China embargo. It's a weird phenomena to be amidst, but the US will still be as free and open an internet as it always has been. The concern is the integrity of business in China. Important it is to recognise the company's statement as being neutral from government control, China still is a country that has massive control and power over its businesses so it is very unsure whether that statement is trustworthy.

Overly Asian ... Facebook and Twitter are American companies. THEY “steal data” for advertising purposes. It’s not right but they want better targeted ads. TIKTOK is stealing American data to HARM THE UNITED STATES. The president took an oath to “protect and defend the constitution of the United States, against all enemies, FOREIGN and domestic”. I support the move

The tricky thing is that TikTok, a Chinese based company, enjoys 0 competition in Mainland China, as Mainland China blocks any competitors. This inherently gives it a huge advantage over its competitors. That, combined with past evidence of TikTok actively surpressing Muslim internment, is a reason for huge concern. That's where the problem is really arising. It's an uneven playing field.

I understand ur point but companies like FB, GOOGL can’t operate in China is that they do not agree to store its locally collected in China, where Tiktok agreed to do so here in the states.

On the contrary, the competition in Chinese mainland market is very fierce. Take the example of short video platform, tiktok is not the first one, Kuaishou(Kwai in English name?) is earlier than tiktok, and they divide the market equally, no one is failure. And Weishi (Wesee?) is the thrid which belong to Tencent. I can tell you the chinese mobile internet market is very competitive, just like the phone market (the competition between Huawei, xiaomi, oppo, vivo, 1+, realme...). Amazon and eBay are failed in the competition with Alibaba, JD and PDD. American is more likely a back garden, lack of competition,Giant companies monopolize the market.

It seems like there's a pretty easy to leave here. Instead of banning individual apps, start placing more regulations on what data companies are allowed to harvest from our accounts and devices. if you wouldn't want a piece of data in the hands of a Chinese company don't put it in the hands of an American one either.
