Jon Smith average marathon runner is around 5 minutes per mile so sub 6 is shooting a bit too high for us average folk. I'd be surprised if most joggers achieve anything below 7-8 minutes per mile, and imo that's a pretty good pace.
@jonsmith56268 жыл бұрын
Jeury Veloz Eh I did crosscountry and track in high school and college and have worked with people as an athletic shoe salesperson. If you are average athletically or maybe even just above average I believe you can do a sub 6 (or something around 6:10). It won't be fun but it's doable. We aren't talking a marathon of sub 6 miles, just 1. And for Marathons that makes sense, you're running a marathon, train those guys to run a 5k or 10k and their mile splits will be very different.

I’ve actually done race walk races and it’s extremely hard. I go to William Penn University and I’m on the track team here and since we’re are in the NAIA instead of the NCAA, race walking is an actual event. I did the 3k racewalk at my conference championship for indoor season and finished 9th in the conference. The training absolutely destroys your shins and after about 250m of the race you feel a constant burn up your legs. The training is just like any other distance runner besides you walk instead of run. I did 800m repeats walking, 200m intervals, it’s very similar. The worst part is the judges. I got to two fouls during the championships and it’s extremely scary knowing if I plant my leg wrong and buckle at the knee or push off to hard and lift off the ground for a fraction of a second near a judge, it could all be for nothing. It’s an awesome sport that looks goofy but people should definitely look into

@Lundy.Fastnet.Irish_Sea7 жыл бұрын
zenmar probably the latter. Olympics gets more complicated over the years as people try to score more. They find new techniques to be better than the others, then soon, the others copy. Even if they've done the wriggle walk since the first olympics, the development of the technique must have went through that kind of development.

My uncle was a winner in a few race walking competitions. My other uncle was a track star. Both my parents did sports back in Kenya...mom did field hockey. Can't remember what dad did. But I think they also did track. And there is me. Growing up people would ask me if im a runner..was it because I was Kenyan...or I...looked like I would be a good runner? All I know is I hated running and would come in almost last, if not dead last in our mile races we had to do every few months in school. My fastest mile was in HS, at like 9:36. LOL. The only other best ive had was doing a 6 mile bike trail in under 15 minutes, months before it took me 45 minutes and was pure torture, lol. Now 34...some reason, they were in my recommends, I just began watching these track and field competitions...first time I ever watched Usain Bolt, WOW JUST WOW, and there are a whole lot of Kenyans I didnt even know we compete in these races lol! Anyway...im feeling a motivated to get into some training...I have always wanted to win a charity run (do you win those?lol) and always wanted to compete in at least one of those obstacle course events they have...like Spartan!

I can see how walking in a straight line naturally gives your hips the sway. Good example are runway models, those with less bouncy walks keep their torsos straight and put one foot in front of the other.

First time I saw this sport was during the evening 2008 Olympics. It was like 2 in the morning and I flipped over to NBC and saw the strangest people in a line. Being so late I could not tell if I was dreaming or not. I continued watching until I fell asleep. I never seen the sport again until this vid. Anyways a debate about the differences between running and walking sparsely come up between me and my friends. No one seems to understand that running is practically jumping on one leg or quick successive leaps

Barry Klonsky your correct they are not “walking” they are race walking, two completely different things all together. if the rules are a joke, why is race walking in the olympics. this is a very disrespectful comment especially to direct at a race walk like me who is friends with multiple olympic race walkers

@jouaienttoi7 жыл бұрын
it is called looking at the video. It is shown right as they say it.
@nyxxie0236 жыл бұрын
I agree. They explained what 230.2 is but not the actual number 230.2. It could very well be 453.5 and it still makes sense because they didn't explain the number.
@areaciera516 жыл бұрын
Kieran Yeah I saw the paper and it didn’t explain what the number was
@DuduIn6 жыл бұрын
Ciera, 230.2 means "rule 230, section 2". It's right in the video at the 2:05 mark... it gets explained right after they mention it. That rule *defines* the sport, that's why it's "the number" (of the rule relevant).

I did sports in highschool and I tried this one, other than my long distance track race. It was really hard. Our body must be really be well warmed up. Especially the hip and legs. And we have to be flexible enough. The rules for this race is really strict. There's a term in this race called 'Floating', if you do that, you're out right away, even when you're not finished yet. At least, that was what I experienced. I remember I only took that race once because I injured my leg after that. My hip got dislocated. I over warmed up my body before the race.😅 That's as painful as my broken arm.😂
