Actually it would have been worse, sooner and longer. Without Neelix Voyager would have been unable to navigate the customs of the Delta Quadrant and would have been attacked and chased away from every star system they entered. Just like the Equinox.

@@Lyoko012345 Were we watching the same show? I can only think of one time - The Chute - when Toilet-Brush Head was genuinely useful. Compare that to Basics part 2, when his "survival expert" advice got someone killed within ten minutes of being stranded. The Voyager Conspiracy detailed how he gave the ship fleas which were disrupting ship systems. In Learning Curve, the cheese he brought back from an away mission nearly *destroyed* the ship. He was a regular irritant to the crew (like when he barged into Tom, Harry, and B'Ellana's discussion in Threshold and tried to have Torres get her own biscuits while he made it very clear that he didn't know shit for dick about how warp drive works, just to name one minor example). The only time I've ever liked Neelix wasn't even in Voyager. It's in a story mission in Star Trek Online. During his tenure aboard the U.S.S. Voyager of the Damned, he was at best a nuisance and at worst a direct threat to their survival.

@@IceGavel it’s called sub text dick head. Think about it. The Equinox and Voyager started out in almost almost exactly similar conditions upon being stranded in the delta quadrant by The Caretaker. Voyager managed to recover and find friendly species and planets while the Equinox was attacked and chased away by all but one delta quadrant resident species. What was the only major difference between the two ships? Neelix! Voyager ran into and picked up Neelix who knows his way around the delta quadrant (up to a certain point but around that time they also picked up 7 who has Borg knowledge of the delta quadrant). It’s implied that Neelix told Janeway the customs of the planets they visited, who’s friendly and who’s not. Just because It wasn’t shown on screen doesn’t mean It didn’t happen. If you still don’t believe me ask yourself this; Why was the Equinox attacked and chased away by everyone they met while Voyager’s experience was less rocky?

The Equinox were welcomed by the 'Ponea', a Race whom 'Gilmore' referred to as "the life of the Delta Quadrant" who viewed every first contact as an excuse for a party for them. The Ankari welcomed the Equinox crew, 'The Spirits of Good Fortune ' Nucleogenic lifeforms also welcomed the Equinox crew until they started Genociding them and committing mass murder

as i look back, i realize i actually like nelix. he had quite a few genuinely funny moments and he played a great antagonist to Tuvok. remember the episode where Tuvok creates a holodeck program of neelix just so he can violently murder him whenever he gets stressed? we would have never gotten such a genius thing without the neelix character. we loved hating him and he made us laugh.

Absolutely. It wouldn't have saved the inadequate younger sibling that is Voyager, but it would certainly have helped. There would have been fewer occasions where his "survival skills" would have let them into greater danger. Kes would not of had a Stalker for a boyfriend. That would've been far fewer, idiotic interjections during the staff meetings.

If she did that then Voyager would have been in the same situation as the Equinox. Neelix was a living copy of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the delta quadrant. He helped Voyager navigate the customs and traditions of the inhabitants of the delta quadrant, helping them find friendly planets and space ports and uninhabited planets no one has laid claim to that are rich in resources. With out Neelix Voyager would have been attacked and chased away from every star system they entered.
