VPT24 Video Training - Part 5 - Basic Clock Programming

Does the VPT24 Timer when programmed override the light switch of the porch, for example, if the VPT24 is programmed to turn lights ON and OFF? Can I leave the light switch in the OFF position? If I leave the switch in the ON position, will the VPT24 timer still turn the lights OFF or like mentioned earlier, just leave the switch in the OFF position and the VPT24 controls the lights instead of the wall switch?
