the thing that bugs me the most is that currently in VR, you can make yourself look exactly how you wanna look for free (unless you pay someone else to do it for you). But with the adoption of the metaverse and wants to make money off of all of it. The likelyhood of custom model uploads sticking around is low, since they could sell you different things rather than letting you make them yourself.
@stormvr10703 жыл бұрын
Custom made avatars are what make Second Life and VRChat successful. MetaVerse or Horizons won't succeed because their vision on "avatars" isn't creative enough. People don't want to look like plain old people in VR.
@djaxexe63323 жыл бұрын
@@stormvr1070 but they can keep all of the customization and everything and just sell it too, or a more likely option would be they charge you a hefty fee to upload your own content. Companies are very determined to monetize as much as possible. Especially since they're pouring so much money in, they're gonna need profit. IMO it's doubtful they'll stop at selling machines. Clothing companies could partner and charge you for wearing certain things. If the meta is painted to replace reality in a sense, why wouldn't they have VR clothing stores and all that?

That "For free" contradicts how much money I've spent on buying vrchat avatar models... The difference being of course that you buy the actual model data and you can customize it in Blender and Unity to your hearts content. I'd be wary of any platform that tries to lock you into some closed eco-system where what you buy is not transferrable to other platforms. With my VRC avatars I can use the same model data in Neos VR, VirtualCast, Cluster and more given some effort on my part.

More of the older generations are naturally resistance to change. A couple good examples of this are the current transitions we are experiencing from the ICE to EV vehicles and smart phones. The change is relatively slow at first and then, as the tech gets better, more efficient and cheaper to produce, that transition starts to pick up speed as more and more people start to grasp the benefits and viability of the change. Of course, all new innovations and advancements have their nay-sayers, as to be expected, but eventually those people become the minority. On the Chinese headset: I'm not surprised by the similarity. There is a trend with the Chinese market that, if it is popular in the West, they'll make a clone for China. A common place you see this is in videogames, like the... various Overwatch clones. And unlike Western companies that jump on the bandwagon- the Battle Royale genre, for instance- they will make something very, very close to the original- like "Hero Mission", an Overwatch clone, and that is WITH an official release of Overwatch in China. Facebook, however, is banned; and, by extension, so is Oculus (Now Meta), so this hardware isn't competing against the original Quest 2. The point is, Chinese companies are pretty brazen about copying stuff from the Western market, even more so than Western companies. In some cases, I'm glad for that- it means that Chinese consumers will get to enjoy stuff that they otherwise probably wouldn't (E.g., the "Quest 2", or at least a clone of it). It also means that, with the VR market booming in China and the West alike, should they change their mind (Or, at this point, culture) regarding the internet it means China will not have been left behind; it will be able to integrate... semi-smoothly into the global virtual ecosystem. It all depends on if one of the things that gets copied is standards, because that will be the biggest hurdle to overcome regarding the creation of a consistent, decentralised metaverse: Standards, like the ones we are used to (HTTP etc) but for VR. That will be a hurdle to overcome with all the companies in the West, too, not just between the two "sides" of the world. On the other hand, it disappoints me, because China is pretty big on censoring content it doesn't like. The clones allow them to do that without missing out on... at least the essence of the stuff that gets blocked.

Wow, that’s a strong statement. Let’s see if the video can defend it Edit: You talked about 2025 in the headset sales part of the video where some data shows that headsets sales could be up to 71 million at that point. Honestly, looking at some data you didn’t mention in the video, you might be right, not in a dystopian sense, but a social sense. Apple sold 72 million iPhones in 2011. The iPhone 4S (Siri) released that year, for some perspective.

I wonder if the Chinese headset will be easier to root? Also, I had a thought the other day, after vaguely remembering hearing that the most expensive part of VR is the software so I thought, what if Valve released an open source VR headset operating system? The Steam Deck shows that they seem to be expanding/experimenting with portable hardware and if they did wouldn't that make it easier for smaller companies to produce stand alone VR headsets?

Which is why I assume the primary way to access it will be through AR not VR. Walking down a city street and seeing 3D imagery instead of billboards, Yelp reviews floating over businesses, a line drawn on the ground taking you to where you need to go, a button to hail an Uber appearing on command... all this while watching your favorite KZbin video floating on a screen that was previously attached to your living room wall, and the suddenly you get a request from Mom and she appears on the street next to you to chat. This is what it is imo, not being strapped into a VR headset 24/7. VR will have its place in the home and AR in the world. Eventually you'll have one set of shades that can do both maybe.
@SeanLumly3 жыл бұрын
@@Thezuule1 They are similar, but likely will be used in VERY different ways. AR will be used to make life "better" (prettier, more productive, ads everywhere, virtual "companions", etc), and VR will be a complete escape (eg. gaming, remote teleportation). @@maxinatortk yes. That is exactly what it is. Second Life attempted to create the metaverse without having VR. According to Wikipedia, it is sometimes cited as being the first metaverse (no clue on the accuracy of that). VRChat appears to be making a better go at it, but I was pretty young when Second Life was new, so maybe I just don't have the correct insight. Not to be harsh but China will never “lead”. As always they are really good at “copying” and releasing stuff for a cheaper price. They just very good at “copying” not inventing. Look at all the products/services that come from China. It’s always a copy from something without anything new.
@ANGELROB_YTC3 жыл бұрын
Actually China does a bit of both they do a lot of copying for their own country but they do make chips and stuff for abroad this is why some stuff can't leave China and other stuff can stuff that infringes intellectual property can't be sold abroad stuff that doesn't can have you ever seen a Chinese car no all their cars are fake copies don't meet western standards
@cenciende94013 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Don't get me wrong it used to be that way, but I am personally involved in multiple industries where Chinese companies have in the last few years stepped up and are the ones leading in innovations and progression in their products, dominating the western market. People like you not paying attention are going to find yourselves bulldozed.

@@cenciende9401 Sure man. You can easily proof me wrong with examples of actual products that are originally coming from China. Just something that is totally original not a knockoff with a twist.
