This project was originally developed to investigate the use of VR for palliative and end of life care and was more recently used in investigation of VR for stress/anxiety relief by patients, teachers, ambulance personnel, care home and hospice residents and staff. The concept was originally created by Palliative Medicine Consultant, Dr Sheila Popert, who wrote the script. Sir David Attenborough provided the narration for her to help patients manage their symptoms. She worked with the University of Birmingham's Human Interface Technologies team to develop an initial mountain scene demo (see: • VR Mountain Meditation... ), and this was developed by University of Birmingham MSc student Elza Mathew, who added additional computer-generated effects to provide a 15-minute VR "session". Sir David's narration was extended as well. The music is courtesy of Peder Helland (soothingrelaxa.... This "360" VR version was developed as a joint exercise between the University of Birmingham and Digitalnauts (Glasgow), based on the original assets. The 2024 version of the scenario was made at the request of a number of users, removing the distracting sound of the screeching eagles towards the end of the sequence.
