Although I didn't use a custom model, I did watch that portion because I was curious. I'm glad I did because it taught me how to save animations on different parts of the armature, thanks!

Found the best way to rename all of the keyframes. Open the animation file in notepad++ and replace "path: " (the space is important/dont input ") with "path: Run/". Had like 1000+ keyframes i was tired of doing it manualy.

Hey i need some help, I did everything step by step as you did for a custom model but no matter what it doesnt seem to work. The idle animation will work but it will never transition into the running animation and I do not understand why

Me and a friend both tried installing these and we got them to work but they don't animate, they just glide everywhere. is there some magic trick to it?

Unpacking the model I want to use and setting it up as instructed breaks animations using blend shapes. I've fixed the references but they still do not work. Do the mesh and the armature need to sit in separate locations in the hierarchy for it to work, or can the be left in the same location under the Run object?

everytime i go in play mode my follower model shrinks so much that i cant see it. this doenst happen to the among us model and only to the custom ones. also i want to add that the walk animations only play for one sequence and just stop.. I have to say i am updated to the latest stuff for vrc and the same version of unity as you. I want to know if i am doing something wrong.

I need help… I did everything and the idle took me 2 weeks to do due to how many keys I had … but I had to do it 3 times because it kept deleting.. My question for help is this.. When I press play, the animation for the idle shows up but the run does not work.. so when I move my avatar, it shows the idle animation all the time. It doesn’t switch between running and idle animation how it’s supposed to.. please any help would greatly be appreciated. I can share my screen if needed

Hi There, Great Job, Easy to follower tutorial, I have a little custom follower working great, even added facial expressions. However there is an issue that the little pet always rotates to look up in play mode so he looks like hes running on hind legs. I tried moving the look at target lower but it seems that reverts back to its normal position when I go back into play again.

im tryna replace it with a King Crimson model and when I go to rename the animations, it wont let me. Ive tried using f2 or clicking and none work.

Yes that's kind of the whole point of a follower. Why would it continue running when standing still? The Idle animation triggers when the follower is idle aka not moving.

This is awesome, thank you so much! I always wanted to do something like this but had no Idea how I could accomplish it. One thing I don't get is how the particle triggers are activating the controllers. I went through the systems for like an hour but don't see how they're being affected.

If you look under the "Cull Detection" tree you'll see only one thing that can render, the leaf "Cull Activator". The "Cull Detection" object's animator is set to "cull completely", so it won't animate when there's nothing to render. When it *does* animate, it stops the amogus from doing its running animation. The "Colission Check" [sic] particle system has a trigger on the "Collider" that's in the destination "Follow Target". When the Whole "Follower Constraint" tree reaches its goal "Follow Target", the "Colission Check" emitter is inside the collider and triggers (which kills those particles, but that doesn't matter). When triggered, it activates its sub emitter "Cull Activator" which makes particles that render (invisibly) causing the "Cull Detection" object to stop culling, causing it to run, causing it to stop the running animation.

my only complaint is that it seems to bump up the material slots +3. I tried with different meshes and it always bumps up the slots to +3 for no apparent reason. Ill still use it though it works perfectly otherwise

i could be being dumb but i cant rename the idle animations, i have animations for run and idle animations in the correct places but i cant rename all the idle animations properties to add the run/ too it

FIXED MINE! Tho for me it was because I was trying to use blendshapes to animate my own custom model, so I just had to re-make the two animations with my rig back in blender since this prefab was made around using a skeletally animated follower. Also forgot to parent things in the hierarchy properly a few times.. oops

hey so i know when changing the model you have an armature and mesh in the 2 spots im making a fire ball object to follow me around, its a sphere with partical effects under it, is there a way for me to add it if it doesn't have an armature? or what if i parent constraint it to an empty object and place it under run?

Can the follower be set as a toggle? As in, can I make it appear and then disappear like you would a toggle for a prop? If so, would it be the exact same process you set up a toggle for a prop? Thank you if you can give an answer! Love this prefab and the hard work you put!

The wait game object is missing/in yellow for the wait animation? I see no "Wait object" in the Heirachy. How can this be fixed?

Hello, I’ve noticed the transformer for the armature defaults to 1500 on xyz when in play mode. It reverts when play mode is turned off. Is there a way around this so the scale that shows in play mode match when paused?

NEVER MIND XD. I figured it out! If this happens to any one, make sure the model is scaled bigger in blender. I have my model 2x than the Amungus character (in blender) when taken to Unity it’ll match it pretty well. ;U;

If you create an animation for the follower to appear/disappear then sure. It's rather simple to do that in Unity, so no worries.

These are good but I keep having problems with it and any of the prefabs says they have missing scripts when imported. My main problem is with one or two avatars it will spawn behind the avatar and just be looking into the distance even though the look at and everything else is fine.

Thanks for the tutorial on how to add a follower in VRChat, much appreciated. However, I have been trying to add another humanoid model as the follower, but when I add the Run and Idle animations from the model's FBX files as how you do in the video, all of the bones in the animation clips are missing, and I cannot press F2 to rename them. I have been trying to duplicate those two animation clips from the FBX files separately and changed the paths with Notepad++ accordingly to the model's armature, but the animation clips are still missing. I wonder what did I do wrong here? If you have any ways for me to reach out for your help, that would be really nice. Once again, thank you so much for making this package and this tutorial. It depends, your animations have to animate the transforms of the bones, not the muscles themselves. Transform animations are indicated with a little red, blue, green gizmos in front of the property name, while muscle animations are indicated by an arrow. Muscle animations will not work with this kind of setup, as they require the rig to be directly underneath the parent which in this case isn't possible. If you are using transform animations and F2 isn't working for you, that can be a common Unity bug. Selecting the animation property, then waiting half a second, then clicking on it again will allow you to rename the path.

Thank you for the reply. So from what you said about transform and muscle animations, I have checked those animations in the FBX files, and they are indeed muscle animations, given by the indication of an arrow, which will not work with the follower's setup. I used Blender in order to export those FBX models with the animations so I don't know what kind of animation the program exports as. Anyway, how do I make transform animations of my model?

I added a hat to his body under armature and it just breaks the running Amanimation, he slides around. I tried skin mesh , standard shader , I tried dragging to the head , chest , under armature it’s self and he skates. Any solutions bc I really wanted to have a cute edit on him (when I remove the hat he walks fine)

Any kind of mesh is not allowed to be placed further down the hierarchy than the "follower constraint". The only place you're allowed to place mesh is in the same place that the body mesh of the follower sits. Make an empty gameobject on the headbone of the follower and put the mesh of the hat next to the body mesh in the hierarchy, then parent constrain the hat to the empty gameobject.

i have set everything up however when the follower switches to the run animation it works for 3 seconds and then the animation is just stuck in place, any idea why?

Hello, I have swapped the model and made generic animation for a follower. When I press play, it wouldn't activate the run animation despite fixing all missing path and the animation play works. Is there anyway I can do to fix it?

Can I get the follower to not angle up/down? I'd like to replace the model with a little drone and it wouldn't make much sense to have it tilt up/down like it would with the crewmate.

Rotation constrain the Armature to the "World" object found in the sources of the package and unfreeze the X and Z axis in the constraint settings

I tried importing my own lil model, and it did in fact import with the animations and everything. So I did everything exactly as it was in the video, however the animations won't play. It's switching between the two just fine, just...not playing them.

Little more info, When I import the FBX, the keyframes don't show in the animator. I moved the game cam to stare at it in play mode, and it looks like it plays the idle animation once on startup, but doesn't loop it. And then refuses to play it ever again when it stops moving. And as for the run, it switches but only shows the first frame. I've tried tons of things, changed settings, re-baked the animations. Tried with and without using the NLA thing. Nothing works at all.

So what if I want to have the follower spawn at a bone in my avatar and let it follow from there instead of having it spawn at 0,0,0. I've tried to have an animation where it instantly moves to the bone I want it to spawn at but it still spawns at 0,0,0. How would I do this?

not sure if you have figure it out yet or still wanting to know but move the follower so it is under the bone in the armature hierarchy and place in near the bone scene, set follow target to 0,0,0.

@Kai TM I did find a fix to this. Because the follower will always spawn at 0,0,0. I have it go through an animation of it going at mach speed then immediately going back to normal speed and going to a different follower constraint. This did work. However, I needed to restart it. I havent worked on it since

Just move the follow target up on the Y axis and the follower will start flying

@@Danii0365 In specific you want to disable the mesh renderer component found in the inspector of the "Astronaut" gameobject. To turn off the audio you also want to toggle off the audio source gameobject.

The difference between this and the VRLabs follower is ease of use. While the VRLabs follower requires time and a good amount of Unity knowledge to set up, this follower is literally just drag and drop. Obviously less complexity also means a lot less freedom, so the VRLabs follower is still much more preferable if you intend to set up a follower yourself or want to do more than just a walking and an idle. Also because its Among Us.

@@Yipper64 If you own FinalIK then you can apply the grounder script to this follower as well. The Sheep follower is heavily outdated and no longer available, but we are already working on something new that will replace it!
