Let me be clear: VRChat does not have any integration whatsoever with the Ethereum blockchain. This means that having your avatar as an NFT will not change anything within the confines of VRChat. It can still be copied, cloned, or whatever, and within VRChat there is no way of verifying that you are the owner. In other words, it won't have any consequences, and what I mention in the introduction is rather the potential of this kind of technology, not how it is today.

Hey all! I would love to hear your perspectives on NFTs in VRChat and related social VR apps below! Here's the NFT I created: bit.ly/3E2aTtw Also: I'm sorry about the audio quality of the tutorial, please let me know if it's truly terrible and I should do a re-upload! Looking forward to see what you're all creating! Have a great day :)

I love the idea, it has been talked about for a long time, the only problem is to create a way to keep it safe from avatar rippers. Another idea that has been talked about and not yet created or implemented, how could one encrypt an avatar using only what we have access to today with VRc without using modded clients.

Do you have any information on how one would upload an interactive asset NFT for use in virtual worlds? I have an idea for a set of interactive items that would need to be touch activated, so basically a 3D asset with internally coded mechanics. Would it be possible to mint something like that as an NFT?
@AltVR_YouTube3 жыл бұрын
For this to actually be useful, VRChat would have to integrate a login through, or linking your account, to Ethereum, and through this, show that the avatar is verified as yours on the blockchain. This is quite a grand project, so exactly how it would be realized technologically is work in itself and I don't have a precise answer. For instance now, if I use this in VRChat and someone else clones my avatar, there is no difference except that I would have the capability to show (outside of VR) that I own it on the blockchain, and it would only truly be useful if this would be solved inside of VRChat itself. To be more direct in your question if it is possible to mint an interactive NFT: right now, through an easy solution on OpenSea, the answer is no, it is not possible (unless glbs can be interactive which I don't think they can)

@@AltVR_KZbin Thank you for the response. I've seen that it's possible to link an external file download to NFTs on Opensea, which might have something to it. The assets don't necessarily have to be for VRChat. I've also considered Decentraland or any other metaverse space that has a market and semi-realism to it.

How would we add or rig up the avatar to have face and eye tracking as well? Would it be possible to give the avatar 3d internal organs and teeth if you had CT or other digital 3d exams and convert them to be used in the avatar? maybe also detail the avatar to have irl measurements for shoes/ clothes fitting. I feel like these things layered on the avatar would make it something you'd want to use and keep up with and also give value to companies or others that would want to buy that data, and also secure ownership as well

Yeah, I agree, such an expansion would be great. I'll be honest with you and say that I don't know how to do this yet! But there's a ton of tutorials out there, if you're into the anime style, I'd recommend checking out Phia's tutorials.

great video! I have a question for this golden nft. After I buy it from opensea, do I get the 3d customizable model you created? On opensea, what I get is really just an address on chain. How can I get the source file? thanks
@AltVR_YouTube2 жыл бұрын
Great question. In short, right now the metadata is not freezed (it is editable), but I will change this. Then the metadata that is written to the blockchain would include a link to the file itself. This is still the case to some extent: for instance, I was able to download it right now by just deconstructing the OpenSea source code to get the hosting URL personally. I do not know whether you mean the general process of gaining access to files that has NFTs or thinking of this one in particular. Of course if you were to buy this one in particular, I would also send you the link to download it, but the metadata should contain this once it's frozen in the minting.

Hey! There was a lot of great information here. Unless I misunderstood, I feel like the video is misleading. You showed how to make an Avatar into an NFT and how to put the same avatar onto VRchat. These are two separate things. How do you have the NFT access the avatar in VRchat only upon ownership then have it remove once the avatar is sold?
@AltVR_YouTube3 жыл бұрын
Hey! This is a lot of more of a "I wish this was actually available in VRChat" video because it has the potential to solve a lot of things, so you're very right, this has absolutely no true function as VRChat is not integrated to the blockchain.
@EugeneCapon3 жыл бұрын
@@AltVR_KZbin You could have made the Avatar unlockable content form the NFT. There is also a Unity 3D/metamask connection you could have used as well which has been out for months now.

@@AltVR_KZbin Which won't happen, and is an incredibly wasteful and stupid idea. I'm an avatar creator in NEOS and VRChat, and the idea of having to mint every avatar, have them checked against a blockchain that is incredibly un-environmentally friendly, is just something I can't support. If any major platform ever decided to implement such a poor idea, I will boycott in kind by removing **all** of my public avatars. NFTs are a gimmick.
@AltVR_YouTube3 жыл бұрын
@@Motscoud Well, minting can be easy peasy and doesn't have to be done on Ethereum (which will be environmentally friendly soon enough). Minting as well as checking could be seamlessly integrated not constituting any extra levels to go through. Not saying it will happen tomorrow, and it will take a long time before people see the value of NFTs beyond them being a gimmick, but I would be in support for it as an option and think it could be positive for the VR community, especially avatar creators who do it for a living

I can see the art world taking an interest in the future. Anyone can print out a Pokémon card but people still pay big money for a minted Charizard. A 100 year old avatar in 2121 might fetch a pretty penny. Collectors, man.
