Good point Venkatesh. To add to your thought ... since Fear and Greed are the two main drivers for retail traders, it seems to me that they first create fear when hunting stops and then turn the market to leverage the greed of traders when the market starts moving away, i.e., they seem to be trading the converse of the retail trader's mindset and emotions. Either way, they create volatility and liquidity by doing so. Since they have the firepower to really move the market, they are already at an advantage because they know which way the market is going to go and where it will turn (with their big opposing order); the volatility and liquidity just enhance the profits that they book. Thoughts ?

I would say when entering into the trade itself be confident on your trade...dont keep any stop loss if r sure its going to come back...This is the only way u can do to escape the hunt....and fall in a jungle like stocks as u dont know when where and how u will be attacked..if u want to be trading then trade in a safe zone...I.e., trade nifty bank nifty as there is less volatility in the Indices unlike stocks...and gain skills and have proper tools before u fall in the jungle....if u r going into a jungle without skills and proper tools.....think what would happen...

Finally one of the few videos on the Big operator methodology. How do they know SL...Xchange shares with them? I strongly feel that the order management system calculates the net position of the market and then releases bulk executions based on the Bakkara's positions. 9.40, 10.40, 11.50, 12.20,1.45, 2.40 are times when big swings are made. The Algo teases the retailers to wind up. I think each retailer goes to make x amt and is fleeced 50x. Most service providers give weird calls to trap retail. So many strategists have cropped up. Everything is against the retailer who is repeatedly lured. Could you shed light on the trading terminals, best charting available which is not rigged.

Probably the most concise breakdown of this that I've seen. Very nice video. He's right about them attacking the herd mentality. Start small and experiment with losses you're willing to take when looking for your stop order levels. Incrementally work your stop levels out until you're the one that's taking the profits :)

I call it gunning the stops. We put our stops in the same spots so there are quite a few shares to be picked up on some mkt or stock weakness. If they do do it during quiet mid day trading they can pick up some discounted shares

Further I have heard about the concept of logical stop loss (which is hit only 20% of the time) versus monetary or technical stop loss (which is hit 80% of the time). Sir we are simply saying 'big institutions' as though all big institutions are evil. It is not bad to be a big institution. Right now the people manipulating the market and calling themselves "FII" are the Mauritius, Maldives and other hideous tax haven countries based investment firms that are operated probably by terrorists. And SEBI in all likelihood has taken ghoos from them to impose draconian rules.

@VRDNation - I understand from this video 'where' the big boys trade and 'why' they trade like they do - Thank you for an outstanding and such a succinct explanation. However, the question now in my mind is 'how' they trade. i.e., if limit orders stop the market and market orders move the market ... 1. Do the institutions buy/sell at a particular price (or price range) ? 2. Do they continue to buy/sell with market orders to move the market or let the retail traders move it for them until they are ready to turn the market ? 3. Do they trade on all timeframes (5/15min - daily/weekly/monthly) or only on the high timeframes and let the retail traders fight it out between themselves on the smaller timeframes ? I'd appreciate your guidance on this to fully understand how the tiger hunts its prey (me) so I can try and ride the tiger's back rather than run in front of it.

The problem that I have with this, is that there's absolutely no way of telling when the stop hunting period is and when it's actually over so you can plan around it. Usually, it's not over until the market has blasted off in the other direction and then you're left chasing the trade, which is never good. What timeframe by your estimation should be the cut off for stop hunting?

I always try to see emotions in the charts. And try to enter at the point where i believe the price would return to hit the SL of others. It need patience. But sometimes it also happens that the price returned not to hi the SL but it really wants to go in reverse. But it is rare. Plus i also try to see whether buyes are being manipulated or sellers. If buyers are being manipulated the price usually go up. And same with sellers.

I trade trends based on the aroon indicator. I don't think they hunt the stops I set. Because it is quite far away from reversals. I never enter near a double top/bottom or something. I don't use candlestick patterns ot engulfing either. If people think their stops are being hunted. Do a backtest with your strategy and see how often your stop is hit and then continue in the direction ypu hoped for. Around 1000 tests would do.
