It's the way you say things that just hits home with me. Creating more space in the back of the throat is another one of those counterintuitive elements of singing. I have to remind myself to do that and to release weight all the time.

Victoria, So far you are the only teacher who has been able to help improve my voice, even by a little bit, overnight. I have been classified as an alto when i used to sing in choir. While i can sing as an alto, my voice quickly becomes very tired and my body subconsciously reaches for higher notes when practicing. I have begun to explore the soprano range which feels more liberating. Your videos have greatly improved my technique and I no longer feel exhausted after a practice session. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!

Thinking you’re an alto and now thinking your a soprano is a HUGE jump. Wouldn’t it make more sense to test your range and properly determine what you are rather than guessing or taking someone else’s word for it? Vocal type (alto, soprano etc) is more or less based on range so just test it an know for sure but based on your alto vs soprano thing, sounds like you’re probably in between; a mezzo soprano like me. Just test it :) dont take my word for it, ramsey voice studio and cheryl porter are my other go-to singing coach YTers if yoh want to check rhem out. RVS has a vidoe on determining your vocal type too btw! That’s how I found his channel and learnt I was a mezzo soprano like Adele which makes sense cos her songs are usually comfortably within my range.

No, it's not that simple. Voices are often incorrectly classified. Range might be an indication but certainly does not define voice type. You can be a soprano with a short range or a mezzo-soprano/alto with a long range. It's really the vocal timbre, where the natural passaggi (bridges) lie, and the comfort of the singer in different ranges. Also, self-testing range is often done incorrectly too. Lastly, there are different types of sopranos, mezzos and contraltos ranging from lyrical to dramatic which can fool people regarding voice types.

Well worth the slight wait this week. Really like the idea of getting out of our own way when we sing.

I've tried these exercies and I know I'm a serious beginner, but I still have problems reaching a high note. I'm doing my best to apply the "Do's" and "Don'ts" and as I'm recording myself doing the "Mum" excercise I have still stay flat. I know I'm a novice but there are times where I feel like I'm improving and other times I'm not, but I know I'm getting somewhere because of your lessons Victoria! Thanks!

Make sure to see all of the videos in my playlist on How to Sing High Notes. Stretch into higher notes little by little and don’t force. If you are pushing up too much vocal weight, your high notes will definitely suffer. If so, study my playlist on Mixed Voice.

@@Victoria-Victorious Thanks! I do feel my throat's a little sore, but I am going to watch your playlists and learn from them thoroughly. I don't mean to force the high notes and I'm doing my best to alleviate the vocal weight too. I've also started to record myself and I have noticed there are times in which I'm failing and times when I'm getting it right. But thanks! It means a lot that you replied! 😀

I love your videos. I can't sing very well at this point but you do make me want to try. You explain things in a way that makes it feel like I could do it. I need a few extra hours in the day. LOL

Hi Victoria, I’m currently focused on developing and strengthening my head voice. However something I’m struggling with is switching in and out of head voice seamlessly. Which one of your videos do you recommend I watch? Also should I be feeling a slight soreness in the abs after singing or do I need to keep working on breath control? Overall I love your channel and I’ve improved tremendously since I started in June.
@Victoria-Victorious2 жыл бұрын
No, you should not feel soreness in the abs. You might be tight or working too hard (over-supporting, locking). See my PLAYLIST on Breathing and Breath Support: kzbin.info/aero/PLaWjWxiTysDCQDneLVxvJRkJp_Omj_vbp As far as coming in and out of head voice seamlessly, this is all part of developing your mixed voice (head mix and chest mix): PLAYLIST on Mixed Voice: kzbin.info/aero/PLaWjWxiTysDCCsBgnhWjfRRAWIPflxZp1

Can you be a singer if you smoke ? I quit las week and have my 1st vocal lesson tomorrow 🙃
@Victoria-Victorious2 жыл бұрын
Smoking is very drying and irritating to the vocal folds. Congratulations on quitting and starting voice lessons!

@PresKen39202 жыл бұрын
100%, some of the greatest singers we know smoked heavily during their peak. Because they were smoekrs, not FOR the singing 😂 badly worded. I smoke heavily still and have a great voice, if I quit though it’s FAR better and clearer so while you can absolutely sing amazingly while smoking, you’ll always do better without
@Victoria-Victorious2 жыл бұрын
The healthier way to look at it is that smoking is drying and a well-known irritant to the vocal folds. One can sound good today and still be headed for vocal decline. I talk about this in several of my videos. For a long and healthy singing life, quit smoking.

I want to sign up but am not sure what to take. I am a female contralto. What course should I take? I have been loving all your free videos and am ready to get serious. Thank you so much.

Hi Lahle! You should get the alto/mezzo-soprano program. Each program covers 2 1/2 octaves. I hope to meet you in one of our group classes!

@@Victoria-Victorious Thank you! I joined this morning! I am thrilled to have discovered your program and even more excited to start working on my voice. I honestly thought you have to be born with an innate ability to sing or it was hopeless. Thank you for helping me to see otherwise.
