vs Ophelia (No Straight Roads fanboss theme)

Here's something I've been working on for quite a while: A theme for my No Straight Roads fan boss! Introducing, Ophelia! A choral singer who fights with all the force of a thunderstorm, she calls up faceless, shadowy singers in order to back her up both on vocals and on the battlefield. Having just barely gained approval during her audition in front of the artists of No Straight Roads, the stage on which she performs is only half finished, and she does not actually have power there... Yet despite this, Mayday and Zuke are more than ready to cause some mayhem for the stormy singer! Despite her skill, Ophelia makes music for all the wrong reasons, using it as a way to run away, deflect, and escape from her past.
I LOVE No Straight Roads, and I couldn't resist trying to put myself to the test of making my very own song and character concept. It's even my first time trying to do EDM, so I hope I was able to pull it off and blend it both with Ophelia's choral stylings and a touch of rock! Been a while since I reached for those real high notes too. I'm quite happy with them!

Holy crap I love this so much! Since NSR bosses typically have Rock and EDM versions, what if we collaborated and I made the Electronic version? Did you design Ophelia? Cuz if so, she’s beautiful! -First of all, the blue, cyan and yellow color pallet she’s got going on is visually pleasing -I love how the storm motif is incorporated into her design, her dress looking like a rushing waterfall or a downpour, and making the underside of her dress a clear blue sky is honestly genius -I like how the combination of smooth curves and sharp edges are used to convey the feeling of mystery, like this character has something she’s hiding Overall she’s got a pretty good design and I can honestly see her being part of the NSR universe!

I made the mistake of preordering this game (first ever game I preordered, and god help me, the last) on switch. It was such a fun idea in theory and the only thing I knew about it was my friend who hyped it up nonstop. At launch it was laggy and buggy af, plus as a visually impaired person it was genuinely impossible to make it past certain enemies without spending literal hours grinding (the boss with the planets/galaxy was a pretty awful one right near the beginning but there were others as well) And yet I stuck with it because the music and the community were so awesome - ended up giving up on the game itself and just focusing on making private/custom remixes, requests, and commissions for folks who really got into the lore/art/music of the game, and somehow I never thought to try posting any of it - but seeing this, and enjoying a moment of the community again, has really made my day :) Thank you for this unexpected blessing.

For what it's worth, these high notes didn't always come to me so easily! I've been studying singing since I was maybe 13 years old, and I never had a professional vocal coach. Everything I learned was through study in books and the internet! If you practice enough, you'll be able to get them ^^ Practicing every day also helps stretch your vocal chords, so the more you do it, your voice can get slightly more higher or lower range!

I picture I The halfphase part of the boss the Shadows start to build up with Ophelia In the top,needing to follow yo have to parry the attack to skip fall from the tower. Last phase taking place as you make the tower fell,Ophelia is in panic,she don't have anything in control,you actually need to get close to save her but you need quick and fast since Ophelia is trap in her own fear attacking randomly.

Mabye she has so much presure put on her. Not only by NSR but also by her freinds an family. mayday and zuke notice this and insted of sabitoging her,they try to help her but ophelia doesn't exept it at first. When they beat her, she finally lets out all her anger and negativity.....and mayday and zuke are there when she does.

In a really cool turn of events, I actually had someone reach out to me and build me a 3D version of Ophelia's stage based around the stages of the fight that I'd come up with--I'll ask them to give me some shots of the stage to show you, and I can explain the three stages then along with her story! :D

Choral music! I wanted to go full opera at first, but I was struggling to figure out how to properly incorporate it, so I stuck to choral since that's what I know better. You can still hear the opera influences when I start going for the high notes in the last chorus though!

I have given it a lot of thought! I've got a whole backstory and fight choreography set up for her, and I'm even working with someone to make a 3D mockup of what her stage would look like! I'm on mobile right now so I can't go into immense detail, but yes, I do know Ophelia's attack patterns and such~

I’m curious, what’s Ophelia’s backstory

This is the idea I had written down in my notes document--it's a little unpolished, but I hope it gives you an idea of who she is and what she's like! Ophelia used to work as a weather woman--but deep down, she always dreamed of becoming a musician whose music could reach anyone's heart. She used to perform with the encouragement and support of her best friend Hanna, who also sewed her outfit, made her fan, and helped design her general artistic look based on Ophelia’s powers. Ophelia believed that she could do anything as long as Hanna was at her side, and that the two of them could accomplish anything together. Unfortunately, when Ophelia truly began picking up attention as an artist, Hanna--used to being backstage rather than in the spotlight--grew uncomfortable, becoming afraid as the eyes of the public turned on them both rather than just Ophelia. Hanna tried to speak with Ophelia about this and open up about her worries, but Ophelia misunderstood her concerns, believing that Hanna was abandoning her when she needed her most. In her sorrow, she fled her hometown in the middle of the night, abandoning all trace of her past, and instead ran to Vinyl City, eventually coming to participate in the No Straight Roads audition. Against all odds--and perhaps because of the mess left by Bunk Bed Junction, who auditioned before her--she was chosen as the winner, and during the events of the game, is getting her own stage set up, unaware of what’s taking place outside... Now Ophelia believes that she can rely on no one but herself, and even in her fight, she creates cloud-like shadowy clones of herself to assist her in fighting and singing both--trying to hide all the while just how much she misses Hanna and what the two of them had.

Shouldn't the backup singers be clouds instead of shadows, since she got a meteo theme ?

Good question! The description of "shadowy" is less an exact description and more of just an adjective to describe how they look! I worried if I said "cloudy" singers that it wouldn't provide the right mental image.
