Ok fun fact... or just something i realized when Kevin mentioned "Learning" and "Greed" Some Snakes and Ladders boards actually show these as scenes or pictures which depicts what he said, At a ladder, the square at the bottom of a ladder shows a child studying and at the top is the child graduating "Learning". Another example is a girl watering a plant and at the top shows flowers in full bloom "Perseverance or Patience" At Snakes, at the head is a boy holding a stick is chasing a dog and at the tail is the dog and the owner of the dog is scolding the boy "Karma or Cruelty." Those types of Board designs are actually common in our country (Philippines) (i dont know if it is in yours) and i never realized its meaning until now. If this game is a metaphor for our lives, this means that reaching the end is death. Yet, it is possible for this game to last forever. This game proves immortality is possible, since its possible for the game to never end.
@SMon423 жыл бұрын
Theoretically, but highly unlikely. To never reach the end (square 100) you would somehow either need to get into a infinite loop of snakes, or (using the official rules) be on S99 and never roll a 1, which is impossible if done endlessly.
@nibbletrinnal22893 жыл бұрын
@@SMon42 That is incorrect, actually. Each number has a 1/6 chance of being rolled on a dice, meaning, on average, it would only take six rolls to get the one you need to finish, but this is no guarantee. Although it would appear more and more likely that you roll a 1 as you continue to roll, the fact that you can roll five other numbers that *arent* 1 will always prevent it from becoming a guarantee. It is completely possible to roll a dice an infinite amount of times and *never* land on the number 1 even once

Needing to roll an exact number to win is incredibly important to how the final stage of the game plays out. With a snake on 99, the winning roll always comes with at least a 50% probably of hitting a snake, as you have a 1 in 6 chance of getting a winning roll, and a 1 in 6 chance of getting one less than that.

That battery warning is very misguided. Yes, you shouldn't keep lithium cells just thrown around, but the devices that use them have the protective circuitry in them. You can buy cells with more robust protective layers too. The irony too, is that the videos of batteries busting are from cellphones, which should have better protection against that sort of thing, no? The real reason for the AA batteries was probably one of convenience and cost. You can buy the proper circuits to keep lithium batteries safe, but that is just added cost.

Why are you multiplying the snake and ladder options by 0.5?
@HeavyMetalMouse5 жыл бұрын
Why are we multiplying the ladder and snake expectations by 1/2? If there are 10 Ladder spaces, the probability that you land on one of them, without knowing your square of origin, is about 10/99 (no roll can make you land on Square 1). If there are 11 Snake spaces, the probability that you land on one of them, without knowing your square of origin, is about 11/99 (same reason). Shouldn't that expectation be, then: 1/6 + 2/6 + 3/6 + 4/6 + 5/6 + 6/6 + (10/99)x11.8 - (11/99)x35.27 ~= 3.5 + 1.192 - 3.919 = 0.773 This implies that, if you were to average the progress made on every roll during a game, you'd be making less than one square of progress per roll on average. As such. you're looking at an expected value of about 129.4 rolls from one person. This is likely an over-estimate of the average due to the 'averaging out' of all the snakes over the board making the 'edges' of the distribution fuzzier. In theory, it should be possible to figure out an exact representation of the expected progress of a move given what square you're on, and then use some stochastic analysis to figure out your probability of being on Square X after N moves... It's certainly a tricky game to analyze by hand.

@@jakubedzior Ah! That is a fairly reasonable justification, yes. In that case, we'd be looking at an average number of rolls of 99/2.15 ~= 46 rolls or so.

The funny thing is, instead of telling people, "Don't buy bare cells ever", they should be promoting and teaching battery safety. Li-Ion cells can be used in all kinds of maker applications. LG Chem just doesn't want to educate the consumers about how to keep their products safe. If you know what you're doing, and make sure that the cells are safe to use at all times, such as inspecting the cells for wrap damage prior to each installation of the cells, re-wrapping as necessary, or having someone familiar with the re-wrapping process do it for you, making sure that you keep any loose cells you may be carrying with you (such as an extra set of cells in the case of vapers) in an appropriate battery box, you're pretty much fine. This is fearmongering. Just like any technology, there are risks involved, yes, but as long as you educate yourself about those risks, and make sure you have proper safety protocols for that technology in place, you're fine. Do your homework.

3:15 I had the best nerf guns in my area because I ran them with these :D Seriously though, many companies *cough APPLE cough* are using thermal runaway to say it's unsafe for "untrained" people to work on their devices. It's total BS so idk how I feel about a video that might cause people to think that every li-ion cell, bare or not will suddenly explode. There's a whisper of truth in Apple's words. Their battery design is rather dangerous -- positive and negative running on opposite sides of the ribbon, and the microscopic connector. However, there is a "protection circuit" inside the battery. It can't help you if you short the bare leads, or internally short the thing (bent it, poke it, etc.) Also, every 18650 intended for consumer devices have two internal safety components -- a fuse link to prevent external shorts from creating a fire, and a pressure relief valve to allow it to vent less violently. (tesla cells have neither -- saves a few grams (* 7000 cells), which is why they go off like a firecracker.)
@markus98sb5 жыл бұрын
AAA cells also have no protection, they are just weaker. Also really disliked this spot. Who carries bare cells anyway and if you short them they don't imidiatly explode (maybe the really crappy ones)

@@markus98sb Indeed. They take a few seconds to minutes to reach a critical temperature. It's pretty easy to get a bare cell to pop -- boil and vent the electrolyte, which you hope is not alcohol based. energy.sandia.gov/wp-content/gallery/uploads/Moffat-2.jpg Which of these is more likely to go boom? There's a reason why reputable car makers use a blend of NMC and LMO; and DIYer's use LiFePO4. (one guess what tesla uses)

Yup. That's the original idea, that external forces (including the karmic balance of previous lives) shape us more than our ability to choose can. Which is why it chafes against people who hold the viewpoint that we can make better choices. As for me, I expect if I were to play it again, I'd house rule something like I did for Candyland, just to keep my mind from going numb while babysitting. For Candyland, I had each player draw a hand of five, and you could combine any cards with the same color, e.g. moving forward three green spaces instead of just one, and you could use the location cards to send your opponent backwards. Made it so much more enjoyable for me, since there was an element of strategy to it. I could see playing S&L as rolling three dice and choosing which one to use, or perhaps having a selection of five types of dice and getting to decide which one to roll for this particular role. Strategy and math/probability means way more fun!

I like the idea of finding life lessons in board games. They're great teaching tools. I'm not crazy about the idea of this showing good and bad decisions based on dice rolls though. I feel like the message would be stronger with more player agency.

This can be easily bought and can be a great moment for family get-togethers... but no one ever told me this meaning of life... there are a lot of things contributed to this world by Indians, and yet we aren't aware of them ourselves. I wish all countries and people come together and try to learn about us, whereas just because of the British we have deviated from our true path. I wish we all can work as HUMANS and try to advance ourselves even more, rather than playing the dirty game of international geopolitics...

To be constructive, IMHO instead of trying to scare people you should instruct people how to handle different battery types -- you do not drink the contents of a Lead-Acid cell, do not hit a AA with a hammer, do not carry a bare cell outside of a protective case and re-wrap it if needed... And a work on the double standard's, if you are telling people that handling a bare battery is such a danger that they would never be able to handle and at the same time show a self-made, non-certified apparatus essentially promoting the use of a laser cutter (DANGER!!), soldering iron (DANGER!!), drill (DANGER!!), ... Tell me, what makes or a craft knife less dangerous than a bare cell when carelessly carried in a pocket (with or without keys and change)? ...why are you promoting one and scaring people with the other? (a rhetoric question)
