The holidays are so rough! There's something about the cold weather and all the temptation and social activities that make it so much harder to get in the right headspace....

The struggle is so so real! Thank you for keeping it real always and not sugar coating how much work must still be put into health even almost two years post-op. This helps me kinda wrap my head around the journey that I am just now starting! When you go out to eat, do you feel like you modify to healthy/somewhat healthy? What about drinks? Do you find yourself choosing healthier options than post-op?

Thank you so much! I definitely eat out differently than pre-op. I generally don't have to "modify" meals, but instead of getting pizza/pasta/carby dishes, I usually stick to the meat + sides options, and sometimes I'll just ask them not to include the starchy side. For drinks, I generally try not to drink my calories, but if I'm going out to a nice dinner, I'll usually get a cocktail, and I allow myself to get the "regular" version without modifying them healthier. The (few) times I've gone out to bars for a night of drinking, I have changed my order, and will generally get a vodka/water & bring a Mio/other SF water enhancer and just mix that in for a low-carb option!

I can really see that you're stressed! That makes it more difficult with the struggle mentally, and I've learned, biologically via an interplay of hormones that control weight. I'm glad that you're getting together with friends and hope you can unwind a little and enjoy the journey! You are a beautiful girl, and have done a wonderful job! I'm excited for you to be having skin surgeries! Wish I had done all this when I was younger, before I did so much damage to my body! You have likely avoided a lot of future health problems with your weight loss and you look great! Thank you for your transparency and doing these vlogs. I can see where it could be therapeutic and help keep you accountable and motivated. It is helpful to me to watch and opens my eyes up to possible reasons why I've had such a struggle with weight. I can really identify with the feelings of vulnerability side of losing weight and having the feeling of security in size. I'm 4'11 and was 330 at my highest weight. I've lost over 100 pounds over last 3 years and unfortunately, gained 25-30 back in the last year. I was molested as a child, and again by my Dr when I was a teenager, and raped as an adult. I did feel safer when I was heavier, and when I started losing weight, men started paying more attention to me. It was flattering, but scary at the same time and may contribute in some way to some of the regain. I am going for revision from sleeve to bypass so I can hopefully, lose the weight I need to. Thank you for your vlogs, keep them coming! You are doing great! Don't sweat it!

You really hit a nerve talking about feeling more vulnerable in a smaller body! My big woman mindset always had me looking at normal-sized women and being surprised at how small they were and somehow made me feel like my plus sized body made me more protected and invulnerable. So as I'm losing weight and my body is getting smaller, even though I'm far from being a normal weight, I've noticed that walking my dog at night (anytime after 4:00 pm right now) I am far more concerned with what is going on in the area. I only walk in my neighborhood, but if there is a car parked with someone in it, I turn around and head the other way, or if I see someone in the distance that I'm uncomfortable with, again I'll turn around. Last year I wasn't concerned in the same way, but having lost that 100 pounds, I do feel more vulnerable in certain situations.

It seems we are all on the struggle bus. I blame mine on not being able to work out for one and two because I've been on two trips and I gave myself "permission" to eat what I wanted. I can't seem to give myself "un-permission". I've had two surgeries in two months and haven't been able to work out. Hoping maybe that will change and I'll at least be able to do the elliptical and strength training next week. I think I tend to be more mindful of my eating cuz I hate doing all that work in the gym and then screwing it up with eating. Just try to keep it together a bit and maybe the New Year will be a trigger to get more on track. I admire your dedication to working out. That is awesome.

I'm the opposite. This is the best I have ever done on nutrition, but I'm also only 9 months out. My struggle is the gym. I know I'll feel better if I go and I like it when I get there. I just have trouble making myself go. I do evenings bc I'm too shy to shower at the gym. How do you stay motivated in your fitness? BTW, you look great and super fit. You can't see the extra pounds at all. Thanks for continuing to make these videos. ❤

Aww, thank you so much! Honestly, I just made a fitness routine, and I stuck with it, and now it's just something I do, regardless of whether or not I want to! But to start, I worked out with a friend which kept me accountable to actually showing up.

Ugh...the struggle is real - I say yes waaaay too often when it comes to carbs and sugar. Know it's cliche, bit after the holidays, I'll work at getting better on target. I'm not crazy over calories all the time, but I'm grazing more and just not being as diligent and I don't trust myself with food. People lose weight without surgery all the time and so it has to be possible to lose another 20-30 lbs, right? I just have to make better choices. I am so sorry you are so stressed! That is definitely a factor for weight fluctuations and impulse control - at least it is for me. Can't wait to see you next week!! 😃

I don’t want you to totally dismiss the muscle weight because when I went hard with strengthening I notice a slight gain however I was definitely looking smaller. Everyone was like you still losing which was irritating me because I was like I’m up 8 pounds...I say stick to it...you doing great! You living life 🤗

Yes, definitely! I don't want to dismiss it, but I know it would also be really easy for me to "excuse" it away, so it's all about finding a good balance!

I had a body composition scan done at golds gym with my trainer. I think it was 47 dollars for members after the first one. If you could find something like that it might help clear your mind if you can see the numbers. Before that scan I kept betting myself up thinking I’m not where I would be 😑 you know the song and dance but that test proved to me I was in the healthy range for muscle/fat ratio. Hang in there and thanks for being so open your awesome!

I do understand what you were saying about your weight and safety. Certainly no one could grab me easily when I was over 300 pounds but I have had 2 really scary things happen to me before wls so while I do understand what you were saying I also know that as a woman alone it is hard to ever really be safe at any weight., even when we think we are being careful. I probably shouldn't add that to be scary but I feel that it is only after things happen that we realize that we weren't being as smart as we thought we were. So stay safe!
@GraceGetsGastric
@GraceGetsGastric 4 жыл бұрын
Yup! As I said in the video, I'm well aware my perception of greater "safety" at my bigger size wasn't necessarily reflective of reality, and didn't make me engage in any more risky behaviors, it's just a mental shift.

I get what you mean exactly, when I was 11 a man tried to take me away on y way home from school, the police said i was luck as i was big he wouldn't have been able to lift me. So from that moment my eating got a lot worse i kept thinking he was following me. I still get very anxious especially now I'm smaller. I'm excited to wat h your plastics journey. I'm also getting plastics but on the 4th of February xx
