First . Let me say , I’m so so sorry that you had to endure all of the things after your surgery. But that being said, I’m glad you made this video because it helps me to understand the surgery alittle better. Mine is in a week. I’m totally terrified. I don’t tolerate pain very well and like you I take Zoloft for depression. And Im also a cancer survivor ( 2019). . Im glad you’re feeling better , what is the one piece of advice you could give me to help me along the way other than walk, walk, walk, I got that part.

I had hyperemesis in my first and only pregnancy and I am 3 weeks post-op for the gastric bypass and have had no nausea after the day of surgery. I was shocked, I thought I would’ve been horribly nauseous.

I also have had a lot of nausea when I try to drink fluids. I am in my fifth week. I only consume about 20 oz of fluid a day. I can only eat about 3 oz of pureed or soft food like cottage cheese or refried beans. Actual meat sits in my stomach like a lead weight. Trying to be patient.

It was hard for me too the first week was okay for me then the second week post op I couldn’t get any liquids in I was so weak and a little nauseous and I was getting fevers! It was terrible I ended up back in hospital for dehydration 😵 but here I am better than ever! 🤗🤗

I'm glad that you are feeling better. I know that its been rough but you are on your way to being back to 100%. My aunt had irreversable complications and she has never recovered from a similar surgery. I think that you'll be happy with it once you have some distance and perspective. Hello! Don’t be scared!!!! I’m over 2 years post op now and I can say, with all confidence, this was the best decision I have made in my entire life. Looking back, I think a large part of the nausea problem was that I had to go cold turkey on my anxiety/depression meds. That can cause terrible nausea. Even still, I would do it again and go through those hard months to get where I am. It’s so worth it. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide!!

I had mine 4/10/2023 in Istanbul Turkey I'm feeling great but gas is starting to drive me crazy but I'm down 18 pounds I experience nausea to certain food. I'm more comfortable with smoothies

Don’t be scared!!! I’m not exaggerating when I say I’m the exception and not the rule. I’ve been on FB boards with 70k people and only met like 1-2 people who also had a PIC line. You’ll be fine!!! And despite my rocky start, I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!

My insurance did cover it! My surgeon required a lot of pre-op tests, which was just time consuming more than anything else. Many insurance companies will require X months of visits with a registered dietician, anywhere from 3-12 months, but mine didn’t require it.

Remeron is an anti depressant that can help with nausea but it also makes you very hungry. I gained 70s in 4 months on Remeron for depression and Anxiety

I am 6 days out from gastric bypass and a hernia repaired at the same time. My stomach feels so bloated and I can’t keep anything in . The pain is horrible and I feel so exhausted. When I call my nurse she just tells me to try to drink my liquids! It’s so frustrating!

Did they not provide you with liquid versions of your psych meds? The discontinuation symptoms from stopping those meds can be very bad (i.e. anxiety, nausea, depression, flu like symptoms, etc.) I am a psychotherapist so I know a bit about this.

Definitely being up your concerns, but don’t expect much from your surgeon. I really liked my surgeon, but he did not take my concerns seriously at first, which was frustrating. Definitely be your own advocate and ask for a scopalomine patch, that helped. (Although I had a bad reaction to it, because OF COURSE I DID, and it made me super itchy all over. It helped so much with nausea though!)

Oh man! I was looking into this surgery and now I’ll have to think about it a little longer. I’ll need to talk to my Dr. at the VA. Right now I’m on meds for diabetes and high cholesterol 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m interested in what you’ll say in a year about if it was worth it or not. I’m glad you made this video!!

Do you have any issues with nausea now? I have my entire life. When I get the stomach flu I end up in urgent care needing IV fluids every time, I had horrendous morning sickness with both pregnancies (like, bed ridden), I get easily car sick, etc. So knowing all that, I went in to this expecting I’d have a harder recovery. But I was thinking I’d have 1-2 rough weeks, not 1-2 months. And again, I know that this is not the normal recovery. So don’t let my story scare you! 😊

Pain wasn’t bad at all! The worst was when I was in the hospital, and it was more the gas pain (they fill your abdomen with gas during the surgery and some gets trapped) which if you watched my blog you can see it was pretty uncomfortable. But it passes quickly and when you’re in the hospital you get the good drugs, so that helps a lot. Lol

Don’t be scared!! It is very rare for this to happen, my surgeon basically agreed with me that I was one of his worst patients ever. Lol I’ve heard the hernia repair can can a little more pain/discomfort during the healing process, but I don’t believe that’s what caused my nausea.

Did you use the cbd oil in fluids or a lotion?

It was a liquid that you put under your tongue, but it tasted so gross I just dropped it at the back of my throat so I wouldn’t taste it as much. I can’t say it actually did anything, but overall I did start feeling better at that time. It definitely didn’t do any harm, and I’d recommend anyone give it a try if they’re having anxiety post op!

I had a really rough start as well. Was vomiting and naseaus and couldn't keep any liquids down. Had to be be readmitted to the ER and spent 3 more days overnight. Needed IVs as well. I feel your pain with the naseua. It felt never ending. But hey thank God we made it through.

Ugh, I’m sorry you had a rough beginning as well. It really did feel never ending at the time, and I remember thinking at certain points what on earth have I done?!? Totally worth it now. We made it through and now life is good!

I am two weeks post op gastric sleeve. I had to spend 24 hours in the icu and then come home a day later. I can only take a few sips off and on through out the day. If I try for the 64 ounces I end up throwing up. Even after just drinking water all I do is burp and feel nausea. I’ve only lost 8 pounds post op. I feel your pain.

I can’t remember exacts...I think I was 245 when I started the 2 week pre op liquid diet and I was around 233 ish day of surgery. My lowest weight was 151 and I’m 168 now. Hoping to lose around 10 lbs if that regain now.

Omg someone like me! I was nauseous and in bed for 6 weeks. 3 visits to ER and a stay in the hospital all to rehydrate. It was the worst time of my life. I am at 8 weeks post op now and have not had nausea since I left the hospital 2 weeks ago. FINALLY able to eat! I'm down 40 pounds now and everyday is getting better. tracy portillo The only water I could drink was smart water, although now I can drink regular filtered water. You could also try adding something like crystal light or an electrolyte powder to make it taste better. Even if there’s a little sugar in it (like, a little, not full on kool aid lol, obvs) it’s better to drink that than to get dehydrated.

@@sierraelizabeth3817 I've tried electrolytes in it too. I have gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) and everything including crystal light has citric acid and that burns my stomach. Can't drink fruit juices either. It's a struggle! I'm so happy you are doing better!

tracy portillo Ugh! That’s so tough. Have you tried spring water? Like the bougie glass bottles? Spring water always tastes better to me than any other kind. You’ve got this! It may suck now, but this too shall pass.

I prayed for you, that your surgery would be a success ( I found your video days before). I was sorry to hear about the difficult recovery. I understand how difficult the nausea and vomiting must have been. I was very sick during my pregnancies multiple ER Trips and hospitalizations, I was sick the entire pregnancy. So I know how awful it is to feel that kind of sick 🤢!!! I also know and a Nurse your blood pressure, hemoglobin A1c, cholesterol should significantly improve with those 40 + lbs you have lost. I hope and pray every day you continue to improve and feel better. Congratulations to you for all your hard efforts they will pay off.

Don’t worry about it! It hurts, but it’s not horrendous and you’ll have strong pain meds in the hospital. And in the grand scheme of things, it’s just a blip and you’ll forget all about it! Don’t let that one tiny thing stop you. Best of luck to you!

In Love With Louis Vuitton Yes, I would. I’m going to do another update video soon, so I’ll go in to more detail then. Short version is that it’s still not perfect, and there are parts about it that really suck. But at the end of the day, after just 3 months I no longer have pre-diabetes or hypertension, and that’s pretty amazing. That makes it worth it for me, so for my health I would definitely do it again. But I really do miss eating large quantities of food. Lol
