Pretty good writing. The banter between froot and mouse was interesting: “I’ll let this place a secret if you show me how to make a portal to the mortal world” it characterizes the two at the same time: mousey is a cunning brat and froot is execution smart. My critique of this would be to have included mousey traveling over with froot. Nice! Froot’s new model 😭

A lich is a necromancer who has achieved inmortality by storing his or her soul within a phylactery. If their body is killed/destroyed, they can manifest again in a new one (which may be corporeal, ethereal or partially both) so long as the phylactery is safe. It is possible that she did die at the stake but the zealots did not found her phylactery, so she eventually returned and buggered off to the underworld.

That's the great thing about being a lich - don't matter if one of your bodies gets burned, long as your phylactery is safe you can just make a new one and transfer part of your soul into it. Bodies are to a lich as clothes are to us.

I want more lore, my nerd side knows litches are souls placed within a body but unlike lesser undead retain consciousness, knowledge and their will, my intrigue is: A) what was Froot before she became a lich, B) who or why did her soul go into a new body, C) what species is her new body

Liches are not souls placed within a body. They are inmortal necromancers who store their souls within a phylactery while using their mortal bodies as puppets. Should the body be destroyed, a lich can manifest a new body (which may be corporeal, ethereal or halfway trough). The new body is a reflection of the power, personality and preferences of the Lich in question. A lich can only be given a true death by destroying the phylactery or by using powerful sorcery to damage her soul trough the link it controls the corporeal form with.

I'm no expert but I think you've got a talent there and you may not be aware of how good you sound at it.
