Vstrom DL650 - How to install to stiffer spring on stock rear shock

This is an educative video that demonstate how to replace your rear suspension spring on your Suzuki Vstrom 650 any year or Vstrom 1000 up to 2012, 2014 + DL1000 have same spring but different shock and procedure , and keeping your original Shock absorber , why not just buy an aftermarket High performance shock ?
Because a Complete shock assembly can easily cost about 1000$ cad and a spring is only about 150$ cad (when i bought it), the stock shock performs very well with a stiffer spring and the upgrade is money well spent
Stock rear spring rate is 8.2 kg/mm ( 450 lbs / in ) , and replaced with a 14.3 kg/mm ( 800 lbs / in ) in this video

Hi Marcos, at first the new spring was pretty stiff but after about 1000km riding with my girlfriend and luggage it feel like it gotten a bit softer, i really like it, a lot more planted on de road, handling is solid also, would buy again, i'm only 140lbs ( 62kg )

When removing the shock, is it sufficient to support a bike on a central stand? I thought it collapses

Yes , all it will do is the rear wheel will touch and lay on the ground, NEVER get the bike off it's centerstand while the shock is removed or it will collapse

When i removed screw 17mm, stiffer spring sort of extended it self all the way down, and now i can not put it back in first position. any idea?

Try moving the height of the swingarm to align the holes and insert the 17mm back in

Hi, i don't think the shock is easily rebuildable, yes this is very big change of stiffness but stock spring is very soft to begin with, and im only 150lbs with gear Before it would wallow all over the place in curves if there was bumps of pothholes, now the ride is very precise, i did not find it uncomfortable at all

Is the 2 piece dogbone linkage stock? I’ve seen adjustable linkages for sale online to raise or lower the bike. Have you seen?

These are the atock height dogbones linkage, i've seen the adjustable ones too long ago but they are pretty hard to find now

Did you put back the allen screw at the top again?

No because it was seized and had to drill the screw, did 30 000km and not a single problem
