vta 70

Third driver board in Dyna ST-70.
This time VTA-70. (tubes4hifi.com)
After just a little troubles it worked and it work good.
First board was it's original, second one was new with 6GH8 tubes bought from Dragan (tubes.rs) and this last board came across the big pond into Europe.
Amp is marvelous with either of them, but there sure are differences in it's sound.
I guess this could be the end of journey with this amp. This board stays because it sound good and it have possibility to set the bias for each tube instead of seting it in pairs like in original board and its derivatives.
Second reason to stay with this board is that I have no more will to work on it. That doesn't mean that original or 6GH8 board sound less good. It doesn't!
They sound different in their each ways but not worse buy any means.
Especialy with SDS power supply and new inductor in PSU.
Only in some oncomming years I could make two monoblocks out of this amp, but not sure I will have a will to do it. Let's see! :)

buy set of Iron then make monoblocks; don't ruin this one I'm glad that you got it all, in the end :)

Now I am one of not many people that have had 3 different DB's on their ST-70. I can tell that the original board is worth to be saved if in good condition. Sound of original is most music and least Hi-Fi. VTA board is still tube amp but out of the three - most hi-fi! Dragans board is somewhere in the middle. I know Dragan's board should sound the same as original one but my original ona came to me allready beaten to death as I had to retrace it with solder in manner to make it work. You are right...it is worth to keep the ST-70 as is even with aftermarket board. When and if the time come, will find new irons to play. Not that I need any more amps except Class A from your cook book, but just to play with something when I can not sit still. :)
