Hi Matt, Thanks for watching our videos. Now only we provide tutorials and guide, we tried to supply parts as well especially for victa PT carburetor. What the carburetor can do to keep your PT running for another years if other important parts are no longer available especially ignition coil, piston & rings and decompressor valves. These are the parts that we are trying to source or remanufacture if possible or feasible. As far as I knew, the current available ignition coil without iron core would cause engine kickback due to inductance which cause to advance the ignition firing. I will do more research on this one using oscilloscope to see the timing, comparing inductance and effect of the ignition module and share it to everyone. At the moment we don't have available ignition coil and we don't want to source same coil available on the market which cause engine kickback. Cheers, VARIETECH

So on a healthy Victa ,compression reads approx 80-100psi without decompressor , 85 psi without vacuum pipe , 60 psi with vacuum pipe .

How often do the compression valves typically last?

Thanks for watching our videos. If you mean the decompression valve, imagine that some of the unit was built in 1980 and still had the original decompression valve which now fails. That's possibly be the reason why decompression valves cost roughly $40AUD but this must be replaced for easy starting. Thanks, VARIETECH

I got a higher reading of 80psi with the decompression valve on. With the valve hole plugged up, it was 65 psi. Any thoughts on why this is the case?

If you got a reading of 80psi with decompression valve, you should also get a reading of 80psi when it's blocked. Pulling the starter cord when plug is blocked is very hard and you feel the kickback even the engine is in Off position. Building up to the full compression needs force and quick pull with no hesitation. I understand not everyone or age has the same pulling force. I'm one that already on the margin which I still enough force to do it. Maybe in a few years from now, this will be only a history to tell. I hope it help. @@Varietech-AU Thanks for your help. I'm thinking the reading of 80psi is because the cylinder is too dry from it sitting a long time so there's next to no oil seal on the rings. I know there's cheating with a squirt of oil. I might run it, let it cool down and try again. I normally do Briggs/Hondas and just aquired 4 Victa 2 Strokes of various generations.I like keep a clear conscience when I sell used power gardening equipment.
