Video game developers seriously need to put color blindness options in their games already. It's really not that difficult to deal with and it would help a _lot_ of people actually enjoy their games more.

Color blind filters have been a feature in a decent number of video games for over a decade now and yet some develops still manage to not add that feature out of a combination of laziness and absent mindedness (forgetting that being color blind is even a thing that exists, it's not talked about loudly or frequently compared to other forms of disabilites)

This is just tabletop simulator, and the uno is a mod. The mod designer probably should have put in some sort of colorblind option, but I don’t think this is on the game devs.

In general I agree 100%, but in this one particular instance it's a bit like saying the crayon manufacturer should make the red and green crayons have a colour blindness mode (once drawn with). As mentioned above, as far as the base game knows, those images could be anything. Like pot of greed. And there's a decent chance the one who made the uno cards for tabletop simulator aren't a proper game developer and just replicated a normal uno deck.

This just makes me think there should be some kind of software to help colorblind people in situations like this. Like an overlay that will adjust colors on the screen to make them more distinct from each other so that you don't necessarily need a colorblind option in the game itself to let colorblind people tell colors apart from each other. Or maybe some physical device that can be held in front of the screen and refract light in a way that affects how it's perceived (sort of like those colorblind glasses people have been using, but constructed more like a magnifying glass than a pair of glasses) .

I'm the monochrome kind of colourblind, so I live the thought experiment "how do you describe colour to someone who can not see it." Most people assume it sucks, and it kind of does (try team fighting in LoL when there is little difference in the shade of gray for either team on any CB setting), but watching people twist themselves sometimes makes up for it. Especially my mother. Due to a forgetful moment on her part when I was younger, she asked for something from a cabinet table by calling it "the green thing." After that, she would just refer to cabinets as that as a joke between us. What made it really funny was when she would accidently use that nomenclature with other people, just confusing the hell out of them as well.

This is how Uno actually goes. Starts off with tossing cards into the pot, people make mistakes with colors and symbols, people just start sabotaging, and then they try to end the game. (Optional: helping one person while trolling others by trading cards with one another)

Anyone can be colorblind. I believe color blindness in general and red/green color blindness in particular are more common in men though.

The gene for color blindness is on the X chromosome and is recessive. That means a guy either has it or doesn’t from their mom while a woman would need a colorblind gene from both parents to be colorblind themselves

Since the colorblindness gene is on the X chromosome and is a recessive gene, there’s a much higher risk for men to be colorblind, but women can still be colorblind! Just at a much much lower probability (as men only have 1 X chromosome, but women have 2 X chromosomes and would need both to have the recessive gene to end up being colorblind) I hope I was clear enough! 😊
