If you followed the PvP streamer, there is actually one that correctly guess that this is a frenzy boss, and made a whole new build for frenzy katana. Too bad that the boss' weapon is not a katana as he wished.

Miyazaki was being SO merciful by only putting 3 Aged Exalted Ones in, off the beaten path and avoidable. You only need to kill one for the talisman, too. Imagine if these guys were in the Manse. Patrolling. With no cover.

The most messed up detail is that, as soon as the Lord of Frenzied Flame takes over, it can easily make the barbs of the Sword of Damnation soften and curl - meaning that it could have EASILY ended Midra's suffering and removed the blade at any time, but instead it made sure his torture was endless & inescapable until he gave up his body to the Lord of Frenzied Flame's madness. It's why he screams warns you to not let it touch you and to stay away (since like with the Three Fingers, it will take root in you and overwrite any other ending if it's not sealed away first, because everything it offers is a lie).

The Greatsword of Damnation is a tool used by the Inquisitors as a form of crucifixion, _“Used by the hornsent in the execution of a damnation like no other.”_ with the Weapon's Ash Golden Crux describing how it's implemented by skewering the target which, _“If successful, the barbs unfold to excruciate from within; else, additional input releases barbs in the area. There is something of the Golden Order in the sight of those fixed upon this crux.”_ Midra's remembrance describes that, _“As the golden barbs inflicted eternal agony upon him, Midra held fast to Nanaya's entreaty: “Endure.” The word was a curse.”_ while the description of the Lord of Frenzied Flame in the incantation Midra's Frenzied Flame showcases its ability to melt away pain and that Midra was too weak to be a threat, _“The Lord of Frenzied Flame shall take their torment, despair, their affliction. Every sin, every curse. All melted away. Yet Midra, like others before him, was too weak to become a Lord.”_ The Lord of Frenzied Flame has the ability to melt away and subvert that torture, and the madness comes because it just forces them to endure unless pain anyway until they completely give up and it can take over their body for its own end. Even the Ash of Vyke's War Spear, Frenzyflame Thrust has the identical leaping stab attack to the Greatsword of Damnation that spreads out an explosion of madness rather than Golden barbs showing that it's a parallel to that as intentional torture of Madness. The Three Fingers makes Vyke burn himself as kindling instead of his maiden - and she still dies regardless, so he goes insane. It makes the eyes of its follower swell into searing grapes until they rip out their own eyes to lead others into Madness, and cry unstoppable burning tears. It makes the heads of the Aging Untouchables balloon into festering sacks of Fingerprint grapes and keeps their physical form incorporeal so that they're impossible to kill until the moment that they attempt to grab and sear Madness into a target. It doesn't alleviate pain, it fuels itself from inflicting the greatest amount of possible suffering, so that it can ensure they spread it onto someone else. That's why Yura agrees to give his body to Shabriri in order to save Eleonora, and he dies without making any difference or saving the woman he loved, and Shabriri directs you to give yourself to the Three Fingers as Vyke did. It disguises itself as a path to salvation, but with the sole intention of being nothing but endless torture because that's what the Frenzied Flame is - giving in to that insanity and allowing it to do whatever it wants with your body, and inflicting pain & vulnerability on yourself, solely so that you have the power to hurt others even more.

I think even that's somewhat in question, because while obviously burning the world down isn't good, it does achieve something that very few other endings do: it completely eliminates the need for gods in the new world it creates. in this way I see it as less of a "bad" or "evil" ending and more in line with something like the Law or Chaos endings of the Shin Megami Tensei games, where it's less about general morality and more about your personal ethics but if you really want absolute evil, look at Dung Eater's ending instead, where the Greater Will still has power and people still can't die but now everybody can also randomly acquire soul destroying curses at any time

Like if we meet the three-fingers and accept the Flame of Frenzy it would make this fight easier like making us immune against madness. The Frenzied Flame can melt even spirits. Being a spirit himself, it's the only place where Torrent can truly die, so he's not getting anywhere near it.
