Vtune back 1975 a local car lot had a 64 1/2 coupe with original black paint & red interior! It had the 260 V8 and 3 sp. manual trans! This Mustang only had 60K showing on the odometer and was dead nuts mint condition throughout! It was $1595 back then witch doesn't seem like anything today but you have to remember I was only making $1 an hour minimum wage washing dishes in a local restaurant! Of all the cars that I ever wanted to purchase & did not that Mustang stands out as the one that got away! Not all classics are owned by real car people. Easy finance can mean anyone with a deposit and a job can own one. Since they don't have the attachment, it's easy to torch them for the insurance. I believe this was an accident though. They could have been cleaning the glass and the towels dropped in there, they could have been wiping down the engine after working on it. Lots can be overlooked at 3AM after working on your car. I remember working on cars all night and going to bed at sunrise.

Love the content. I own a red 64.5 Mustang that I bought a few years ago and have had a great time upgrading things on it. Mine was originally an inline 6 but was swapped to a 302 before I owned it. The reason your front end is likely lower is that the inline 6 springs are not designed for a heavier 289 engine so it will sit lower. This past summer, I replaced the shocks and springs on mine to handle a heavier engine. You likely aren't keeping the original steering components because you are removing the shock towers, but, if you are, you will need to change the tie rods, center link, pitman arm, idler arm, and idler arm bracket because they are different between I6 and V8. You definitely need to change to 5 lugs and a disc brake kit. If I recall, you are limited in options with brake options with a 4-lug.

@kevinm87152 жыл бұрын
Yup, seems unlikely to have been an insurance fraud case, because I'd expect the insurance company to have actually investigated. More likely he had paper towles out, set them on the crossbar there and while he was doing something they fell into the hole and they didn't realize it. Besides, I thought that the issue was that the car was in an accident and then caught on fire from the accident? I'd expect that if the towels were where the fire started that they would have been burned completely.

Well the wiring is all melted so it looks screwed up. Whatever started it it got to the gas. The fuel pump on old fords is on the engine. So there is a line that comes up from the bottom of the engine right over the valve cover in the front. Often times there is a fuel filter in that line. Perfect spot to leek gas on the engine or header and start a fire.

You can just look up the vin number and it will tell you what the car came with... It's either a six cylinder, a 289 or a 302.... It looks to be an original motor, it's still got the factory Air condition unit.... I'm guessing it's a 289 but I'm no ford expert... Can't wait to see the final product.... Keep up the good work

By the looks of the valve covers and how short in height they are that might be a explorer or a sn95 5.0 roller engine

I use the same kitchen paper towels to check the fluids because they are white and makes it easy to see the fluid color.

If it's original it's a 289. But the car has 4 lug rims so it originally was a 6 cylinder car. It's likely the engine is a later 302. Look at your car's VIN. Swapping the 4 lug set up to 5 is easy, especially for someone like you.

i replaced the dash on my 64 falcon and its the same dash as the 65 mustang. the lower cowl and upper cowl and dash are all welded together and make the front winshield channel that the gasket sits in with the window. to get to it remove the motor and fenders . send me a message if you need more info . once i get out of the army im moving to east tenn. I enjoy watching your videos and your doing an awesome job

That lift you removed any second thoughts on that. Also as far as the paper towels. No expert here but I have burned old papers in my fire pit and there is always unburned stuff under the ashes. Remember guys those towels were way back and down on the header. With the hood off it looks wide open with hood on not so much. Just yesterday the Goonzquad boys found a hockey puck in their R8. People do stuff.

Repair the cowl is interesting as there is likely 160 spot welds holding the top and bottom of the cowl together and the dash is welded into the car. Also the engine looks like a 302 based on the style of valve covers but the 4 lug wheels are a giveaway to the fact it was a 6cylinder car when built

That fire looks a little SUSPICIOUS 💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Four lug wheels means this was originally a 6-cylinder car. The engine is way more modern, at least judging by the valve covers. The paper towel roll was suspect. Fire Departments have protocol for car fires. They have zero interest in not damaging the car, with that said anyone with a pair of gloves could have opened that hood 10,000 quicker than how it was done. Good Luck saving the old pony. I told my daughter years ago that there are more early V-8 Mustangs on the road today than were ever built new.

Hi Ben ;-) This air filter could have been where the fire started. Usually there is a foam inside the mesh and if you have a misfire the foam is ignited . Seen that before. Those air filters are complete junk. Can’t wait to see the next episodes 🤘💪💪

Glad to see you commented on it before I did. Those stupid air filters, followed closely by the reusable glass fuel filters burn down more vintage cars than anything else.

The roof and the trunk lid area are the only things that make a fast back different than a coupe at least body panel wise

Love the new build. Can't you fix the lift? Probably just twist tie like colors where you disconnected the other one and it would come on. Isn't someone you know a electrician? I feel bad you have to lay on the floor.

My recommendation is to go with a 347 stroker in that bad boy.

Don't know if anyone had commented but the 1964 1/2 - 1965 export braces were all welded in place on the shock tower unlike the later mods that mounted under the shock mount. The 6 cylinder could be removed without removing the braces. For a V8.. you would have to unbolt them remove the engine.
