Could you make a lightweight frame for the solar panels to sit over you like a roof? You get shade and you don’t shade the panels.
@tumbleweedfarm3 ай бұрын
I think this is the advantage of a reverse recumbent trike... lower center of gravity and the solar panels would provide shade.
@keywestalert63293 ай бұрын
This is exactly what I was thinking. I was going to comment it, but you were first. He can also add a support bar from his frame at the front to add 1 or 2 mire panels. He can also get more efficient solar panels if he wanted.

I've had a 100w solar panel on my bike for about a year and a half now. I've got over 5 thousand miles on it and use it as my daily commuter. I've got a 10 mile total commute. It's like magic. I don't understand how a whole lot more people aren't doing this. Good job on the bike. Maybe drop back to a single panel to have a narrower bike.

People don't understand most of this stuff. They would put same size panel on a Tesla and say that they can do that 10 mile daily commute using energy from that panel while driving 60 mph during most of that journey. Funny thing is that non-sleeping Tesla's consume about 200-300W just to run the computers inside the car.

@@darekmistrz4364 I think the rule of thumb is that electric cars use about 350w per mile while electric bikes use around 20w per mile. I just got a new bike. Getting ready to do a new build. It should be a little cooler than my current bike.

is it ok for the li ion to be discharge and charge at the same time...isnt it dangerous?..or u actually got bms on the battery to cut off the charge when reaching top..and start to charge again when reaching almost 2.8v...but still...it will mess with the internal resistance of the li ion and heat it up easily....and i think u should consider to waterproof the solar charger/booster unit's internal or keep it in waterproof case...should it rains when ur riding.

I suggest relocating one of the pannels above front wheel, it will help with ballance and also there will not be as big impact in the late and early hours because at 12 Am the sun in above you so no problem in the front or the back, but outside this range of this hours as I said always one the the pannels will be getting light. But regarding this it would be better to conect them in paralel so not enought light on on of them is not limiting the total current, but that also increeses potential for unefficiency because lower to high voltage bigger difference, but still try it parralel when you shadow one the output should not dip as much.

try the solar panel snake trailer, or multiple, lol. ie just put really small wheels on the panels, nothing big to tow, only the panels. snake panel train. also try to force off the reset on the fancy control block. thats almost like a sail on your back.

@davidlively3 ай бұрын
Charging and discharging at the same time isn't really a thing. Higher voltage flows to ground along the easiest path. Just like water flows down hill. If the motor is using power then whatever the panel is producing is being used to power the motor.

Wasn't it easier to just plug the panels into the controller without battery? You could leave it in 44v

Loving the design but it is solar which is the weak link in the entire system. When the sun goes down you got 0 solar but even when a thin cloud hides the sun you only got 30% solar if you lucky. So you need to make sure you bike only needs about 5 / 10 % from what you solar can give. Oblivious then you gonna need a roof of about the size of 8 panels. As said while I like the idea I think we are wasting time on something that could be spend towards finding a real solution. Solar and wind energy is not, the only green solution we have is *NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS.*
