I was invited by a long time friend to meet him at the Mesa test center to have one of his match rifles tested. What an absolutely great experience! He wanted two different lots, one just for practice and the other for serious competition. The practice lot was of course cheaper ammo but still more than I’ve ever spent for any .22 ammo in my life. After testing he purchased almost $4,000 worth of this fine ammo. They did not sell directly from this facility, but lined him up with one of there distributors across the country. This was truly one experience I’ll never forget. The technician was soooooo pleasant and super knowledgeable. It still amazes me how you can have 5 rifles by the same manufacturer and same model and each rifle will like one lot of ammo more than the others.

Great video. My Smallbore F Class Rifle loves Lapua Center X ammo.
@rodgerbooth1064Ай бұрын
Center X is great ammo although I have had a few Guds but the consistency in my Anchutz Rifles is Awesome! Major problem is price and availability! Searching for replacement 22LR now Thought the CCI Green Tag was going to do it but the physical cartridge length varies and there are issues with chambering the rounds in the Anschutz Rifles! They are a tad out of spec at times. The search is still on.

Seems amazing to me that Lot Variation within the Center-X product is so dramatic that it might take a dozen different lots to find the one that works in that rifle. Since we commonly buy ammo "off the shelf" from 5 - 8 different mfrs, and almost never have the chance to buy within a lot, it's clearly a very flawed process for most people with most guns... LOL

@gamelord10004 жыл бұрын
IMO, barrel break in is a myth. Only clean when accuracy begins to fail.
@ozymandias95494 жыл бұрын
@@gamelord1000 It's not a "myth"... it just doesn't have the effect people seem to think it does. Barrel break in helps with longevity. A properly broke in barrel will go 30-40k rounds or more, but a non broke in barrel will only last 20-30k. Most people don't shoot enough for it to be important. But yes only clean it when accuracy begins to fail, that should be about 400-500 rounds at most. UNLESS you're going to not be shooting it again for a while, if you're not going to be shooting it for a while you want to clean it before storing it.
@gamelord10004 жыл бұрын
@@ozymandias9549 I agree, but longevity also depends on what caliber you are shooting and the quality of barrel. A .22 LR will last 100K rounds if you take care of it (and it is of good quality) were as a 6.5CM is usually only good for about 3-4k rounds even on a high quality barrel. Still, take care of your barrel and only clean when accuracy goes away or for long term storage and you're fine.

As far as the performance of the ammo lot and rifle combo goes, which seems to be the more important factor? In other words, do you find specific ammo lots that seem to work best in most rifles (making the lot # the more important factor)? Or does the rifle being tested seem to be the more important factor and an ammo lot # that performed poorly in another rifle excels in the rifle being tested?

Manufacturing is my background and plinking a hobby. Having watched countless "accuracy" posts (both ammo and arms) I have yet to see a double-blind ammo test or manufacturing specification (tolerances) that justify the $20 label over standard velocity fodder. Anyone?
@sofjanmustopoh72324 жыл бұрын
you dont need double blind. with these Lapua testing. that 10 lot# will tell you right away which lot can shoot in the 0.6s inches at 100 meter 10 shots. and worse lot # would shoot 1.25 inches. any of the cheap standard velocity can pull off small group once in a while but when you shoot enough of them you will see why those CCI SV while inexpensive 6 Cents and good enough . will never be as good as 11 cents a round Lapua Center X
@1Skeptik14 жыл бұрын
@@sofjanmustopoh7232 I'm listing and you may be correct. That said my challenge stands, I would even make a small wager you can't run (10) double-blind tests and score 100%. As I mentioned my background is in manufacturing and I have some marketing savvy. The human element is the wild card. I ran thousands of rounds in Bullseye competition and there are good days and bad. Give it a go, you will likely be surprised. I will be happy to have a slice of humble pie.

@@1Skeptik1 bit late but if the ammo didn't matter, why would all the Olympic teams go to the Lapua and Eley testing ranges to have their ammo matched to their rifles? If you're in "manufacturing" you should know there is a significant difference in what tolerances can be held on different machines. The best shooters in the world are shooting match ammo, matched to their rifle, not the cheap garbage off the shelf from Walmart.
