Thanks for a pretty thorough look at setting up this welder. I just bought one a couple of weeks ago and have been going through the process of getting what I need to make it work, such as having an electrician come out and run a dedicated 240 volt circuit for it and getting a bottle of argon as well as one of C25. As of Thanksgiving of 2023, these welders list for $1149 now. I was able to apply a HF no-exception 25% off coupon to my purchase so I was $922 out the door. Cheapskates don't include any wire these days. 😁

I picked one up a few days ago. It replaced my Matco mig that I lost in the 2019 flooding. I was installing a plow on my truck and needed to weld two pieces of 3/8 inch angle to my frame. I don't have 220 in my garage yet so I needed something that was dual voltage. Without making any changes, I started welding and mid bead I honestly said to myself...WoW! I was so impressed with this thing on that thick of metal on 110 volts. I use Millers and Lincolns at work and like this thing better than any of 6 or 7 machines at work. I know it can weld, I just hope it lasts a long, long time. Our Millers and especially our Lincolns have had their share of breakdowns.

AWESOME WELDER! - Had mine for 2 years and it beats some of the high end welders. I have a buddy who has 2 welders that were 2k or above and he used mine. He said that the Vulcan was absolutely surprising and excellent. SECONDLY - You can hook this to a 220v outlet. So you have 110 and 220v Options. Best welder I've ever owned. Would highly recommend to anyone just starting out or seasoned. You won't be disappointed. I use mine for Automotive and Fabrication. Smooth as silk.

One of the best reviews on this welder I've seen. You don't gush about it being the greatest thing you've ever seen, which makes me suspicious. Also, you let me know you actually know something about welding and you go over some of the features. Maybe the amperage is off on the stick for a reason. Maybe they have it programmed so high for people using 120. Using 120 for stick, I've found to be problematic if i have anything respectable in stick size.

No worries at all. I'm assuming your asking what you want your gas flow rate when mig welding. You can keep it the same on most stuff. I keep mine around 35 and it works great. I'm not sure why yours only goes to 10 gage. My guess is that you have the setting using lower wire (.025) maybe?

I just got this 220 yesterday and just tried it out. I have no clue what I'm doing but it works. the cold feed wouldn't work for some reason, thought it was a lemon, but then I selected the flux core and I think selecting the mode first allows the cold feed switch to work, I don't know. what's really weird to me is : why is there no plug/ cover for the gas inlet? seems like that's really important in case some bug or something goes into that hole. also I used there $879 coupon . the helmet they wouldn't let me use the 20% coupon though, it was expensive , $150

Have you had any issues getting the wire roller motor to spin when you spooled up? I threw a spool on, unspooling clockwise as instructed, set tension, etc etc. The cold feed wire switch doesn't actuate the wire feed motor, nor does the mig gun trigger.

If you are using it on 110, try using a hair dryer on hi or a toaster in the same receptacle to see if the breaker trips. if so- the breaker needs to be replaced or maybe there are other appliances on the same circuit and its being overloaded.

For your outlet, what gauge wire did you use because the 220s plug reads 14g. I had a spool of 12/3 but figured I'd go 10 awg but then saw the plug and read 14 awg. I have way more 12/3 that's I'd rather use for length
@clittle15594 жыл бұрын
Depends how far from your breaker box your outlet is but I'm more then certain that 14/3 or 12/3 is to small Thats for refrigerators or microwaves . I would atleast have #10 wire like 10/3

Why does the 220 volt cord set have a 50 amp plug on it but the cord only has #14 wire in it rated at 15 amps? Why----Chineseum?
@TheCookFamilyHomestead4 жыл бұрын
Because all 220 volt cords have or should have 50 amp plugs. That is standard. But different machines can have different size wire depending on how many amps it draws. Not everything that plugs into 220 draws 50 amps. Confused by your question.
@jerrydemas20204 жыл бұрын
I am afraid that you are incorrect. There are a variety of 220Volt plugs that start at 15 amps and increase in amperage. The conductors in the cord must never be rated less than the circuit supplying the current. Big fire hazard.
@TheCookFamilyHomestead4 жыл бұрын
@@jerrydemas2020 please show me where these have created a fire hazard. If these are "big" fire hazards you should easily be able to show me many examples. The truth is that the plug works fine. There is nothing wrong with it and it meets all codes.
