Whoever did the animation/editing to explain the ring behavior deserves a beer. I understood how it worked when it was first announced, but even among gun savvy friends, I would have to explain it two to four times to get the point across, even to guys familiar with red dots on pistols.

It also just showed me why the chevron was used versus the typical dot. If your shooting position has you holding the pistol tilted the chevron being tilted as well gives you an immediate reference point to the outer circle. Most of the other reviews I've seen on this had the reviewer preferring the circle/dot that the regular 507 has, but this makes more sense for defensive use.

Not only do I run this optic on my “competition“ Canik SFX, but I highly recommend it to every beginner to intermediate student I train. It is an absolute game changer and beast of an optic to start off with, especially if you plan to move and shoot in a tactical defense situation. I still have my RMR and it is still one of the best optics on the planet, but you also have to have a ton of positive reps to really pick up that optic dot as quickly as needed for a tactical defense situation. You definitely can’t beat the Vulcan reticle for runnin and gunnin. Just my humble opinion.

I heard they have found a way to overcome the shake awake for people always on the move like police on patrol. They have a small magnet on and off activator in the sight and in the holster that turns the reticle off when holstered ... when drawn the rdo immediately turns on because the magnet is removed from the "turn off" area.. That way you are not burning battery life driving for 8 hours on patrol. The sight is literally 100% off when holstered.

Good video! I just received my 509 with the Vulcan reticle yesterday. Other the past 18 months my astigmatism has gotten worse. On my rifles, I've changed out all my red dots for prism optics or LPVOs to combat this. But, I was still having to deal with a star burst instead of a dot on pistol optics, until the Vulcan. At least for my eyes, I see more of a pyramid than a chevron. What this means is I still have a sharp, crisp aim point at the top. I don't know if it will help everyone with an astigmatism, but at least in my limited range time with it so far, it definitely helped me.

I've been using the ACSS Vulcan for about a year now too. I really do dig it. It cuts the learning curve on red dots way down and is awesome for shooting at odd angles and positions as mentioned. My only suggestion for a tweak would be to offer it with a slightly smaller Chevron. I would love to try it with a 6 moa Chevron instead of the 10 moa. I like the idea of using the inner part of the tip as a BDC, but it's kind of a gimmick. You can accomplish the same thing just by knowing your hold overs. Anyway, I probably will end up with one of the green reticle models soon to go on an OD green framed pistol.

People say it's a "crutch" Completely disagree with the "it's a crutch" argument. If it lowers the learning curve, it is by definition , superior . Making that argument is like saying red dots and holo sights are a crutch, because you should be shooting with irons. Last time I checked I wasn't trying to get into a fair gunfight. ACSS is the next step for optics, Primary Arms killing it, they need to license this to everyone on the optics industry tbh.

Great review; thanks! Any idea of when we should expect the k version of the enclosed ACSS (green) optic? Do we know the exact nomenclature chosen for it? For an OWB duty pistol on a battle belt, would you say one should absolutely choose a closed emitter, and if possible, hold out for the enclosed ACSS? The 509 ACSS is a bit tall for a G19/PDP IMO. If you want to CCW it or carry it in a drop leg, it seems waiting for the k version of the enclosed ACSS is advisable. Thoughts?
