Playing a Cory Wong signature in anything other than position 4 feels illegal. Also jacks guitar playing doesn't get as much recognition as it deserves, the man laid down both of those tracks in one take

Check the clock on the screen. Then video starts when it shows 11:36am and when he finishes the bassline it is 11:42am. So yeah, he definitely did it in one take. You underestimate session musicians@@jtn191

@@jtn191 I mean, after Cory Wong's claim that Vulfpeck does not rehearse I feel like it is more likely Stratton did do this video in a single-take, just to preserve that "first take" magic

I'm surprised so much of the class appears to be making sounds...as opposed to mixing those sounds. There is cross over. But I'd like to see a sample where he's talking about mixing. Generally getting the sounds is one thing...then mixing is another.
@dustycooper
@dustycooper 11 ай бұрын
@@oinkooink I'm now wondering if this 'mixing masterclass' is a joke. There's nothing in this video in terms of mix techniques or concepts that could be useful in another context. Also, the gain staging is completely messed up. If this works for him, great. But don't call it a 'mixing masterclass'...

I know in a sense this is marketing for the masterclass, but imagine making a masterclass and then sharing amazing lessons from it for FREE. I loved the Stevie Wonder one, and I really appreciate this. Thanks Jack.

Great to see Jack Stratton acknowledging the Titans of funk R&B, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards (RIP) of CHIC. But I've been listening to Sister Sledge (try "Thinking of You" and "You Fooled Around" before playing their hits) and... CHIC is on another level. Tony Thompson (RIP) is a rock drummer beast that Nile and 'Nard kept on a tight leash, his feel can't be matched by a drum machine, then they often brought in Sammy Figueroa on percussion (the tubular bells on "I Want Your Love", the sleighbells on "You Fooled Around", the congas on "Thinking of You"!!). Rob Sabino's sparkling piano is 😘(on all those tracks, also the killer "Spacer"; the piano fills on Vulfpeck's "Disco Ulysses" are a sweet homage). Then CHIC could hand the chords to Nile's rhythm guitar OR Ray Jones/Andy Schwartz on electric piano OR the neutron bomb weapon, the CHIC strings. And behind the lead singer, the twin female singers and the unheraldedd Fonzi Thornton singing those insistent choruses. As football commenters say, "So. Many. Weapons." All while leaving more space than today's 100+-track stems on a DAW, with that fabulous honeyed warm sound. I'm not pulling a tired "Today's music cRap get off my lawn!" Vulfpeck isn't just slavishly copying old school, they're making their own good music; "Vulfpeck Live at Madison Square Gardens" is one of the greatest live show videos of all time. But, folks, listen to the people who inspired them. There's gold in them thar vinyls.

Saw Nile Roger and CHIC play in November, they played an incredible medley of different songs Nile had a significant hand in writing. Anything from Bowie to Sister Sledge tracks. Nile is an absolute legend, still a mind blowing entertainer at 71.

I want all the major broadband companies to pay blanket license fees to PROs because they’re the ones actually broadcasting to our devices. Streaming services just host the audio on their servers. You take away internet access and you can’t stream. Treat it like radio! I’m still on board with your 90/10 fan centric model too, and stereo lol.
